I have a 2006 VR GT. I have 35% on the sides, 20% on the back, looks awesome, especially the 20% on the back. Had it done at Street Scenes Tint in Brooklyn Park, for about $200, back in 2008. The 35% really is not as dark as you would expect.

Been pulled over a few times since by state and local police for this and that. They never commented on the tint, although I did roll down the windows before they approached me, just to minimize the chance of a problem with the tint :)

I would guess you might be able to get away with 20% on the sides.

It depends on where you drive. I have been pulled over in Minneapolis in the middle of an intersection during gridlock after an event for not having a front plate. The officer, bless his heart, checked the light infiltration percentage on my 8 and it is stock. I asked what the reading was but he wouldn't tell me the percentage. He said don't worry about it, it is okay. I smiled and said I understand it is okay just wondering what the percentage is. No answer... and I was at a loss for words when he handed me the $130 ticket for no front plate.

Wolfhame 07-05-2011 02:18 PM

Would both of these be "fix-it" tickets though? I got one of those for tint on my last car and just got it removed to void the ticket. He also wouldn't tell me what percentage it was, and the lady at the court house wouldn't tell me what percentage is legal on front windows v. back windows etc.

If MN has similar tint laws as here (which i believe they do), legally you can't have any tint past (55 or 75 ? somehwhere in there) on the front windows, or below 8" from the top of the windshield. There are no restrictions as to how much tint you put on the back windows, meaning you could put 5% tint and be just fine. I dont know if it is a fix it ticket or not :dunno:

BoosTED 07-05-2011 04:03 PM

I have heard no tint below top 8". Any tint shop should be know what the law is if you give them a call. Streetscenes in Brooklyn Park is a good place to tint. I know several people that have had tint work performed there.

Pstone 07-05-2011 11:05 PM

I've had a few friends try and run 30%, but they received tickets because of it. I run 40% on my car, but I have a prescription to run as dark as I want. I wanted a little darker than 50% to help the eyes, but not too much that it would bring me attention from the cops.

Wolfhame 07-05-2011 11:42 PM

Whoa. A doctor's note for window tint, that's pretty sweet. Ziebarts in Maplewood wouldn't tell me what the legal limit was. They might have known but they wouldn't tell me.

Yea, if you have a prescription from your optometrist (eye doctor) you can run as dark as you want. I've heard that if you ask them they just write you a prescription, and I think it lasts 2 years. You'll probably still have to deal with getting pulled over and showing your prescription alot though.

Wolfhame 07-07-2011 12:39 PM

I think I would feel too weird asking my optometrist for a prescription for that. Although I do have very sensitive eyes to sunlight....Hmm thanks for the idea though!

Pstone 07-07-2011 07:32 PM

I didn't even ask to get it. The doctor said that I don't have very much pigment in my eyes and it must be hard to see in the light. I said that it was, and she said here's a prescription for whatever window tint you want. She was a pretty cool eye doctor.

TrickWilliams 07-07-2011 07:37 PM

My uncle has that on his caddy. Limo tint all the way around. Looks sick as hell

BoosTED 07-07-2011 11:53 PM

Does the prescription get added to your license as a requirement? What happens if someone wants to drive your car? Hopefully an officer who pulls you over and sees the prescription would put a note in your record that you have a prescription for the tint so you don't get pulled over for it everytime they see it. If it is added as a requirement a person could get some heat if the car doesn't have tint and you are driving.

Just dropped my price on new front frozen rotors and r-compound tires. May drop other prices to clear stuff out (Amsoil Saber Pro, fender liner for cooling brakes, etc) https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...64#post3995064

Anyone with an 8 that lives near Maplewood that knows about a P0302 misfire code and how to fix it? Just got it Sunday afternoon and I don't know much about fixing it. I'd rather pay an 8 owner that knows about my car than to have to take it to a dealership. Any help would be appreciated.

ganseg 07-11-2011 10:27 PM

I know four things to check. Are you (or the car) available between 7 and 3:30 any weekday?

Thompsolonian 07-12-2011 09:42 AM

Ok all...

...I believe it is time for another meet! This time I think it would be awesome to meet up for dinner somewhere (possibly NOT Fuddruckers this time) And then all go to a drive-in movie! I would probably be a good idea to meet up at a restaurant near the theater and then single line it there. In doing a little research, Vali-HI drive in seems to be the best place to meet up, it is on 94 towards Wisconsin, that way a few of our Wisconsin Buddies can meet us there!

I will do the research and footwork, All I want you to do is figure out what day of the week would work best.

I want to do this in August, because My work schedule is changing so I have Wednesday evening through Friday evening available to be up late.

LET'S DO THIS! Movie, bunch of 8's showing up at the same time, good food and great people!:beerchug:

ALSO, Yesterday I was at the Target at Burnsville, there was another Black 8 there, I met the owner but already forgot his name (terrible at names) If you have joined up like I suggested, welcome to the Minnesota 8 owners' crew, whether you like it or not! :smoker:

I work 930 AM to 6PM but we could do it in the morning if that works? Any day would be great.

Wallets 07-12-2011 10:22 AM

that would be sweet thompson i would be able to do it friday afternoon I dont work Fridays so if we meet up in the afternoon and then do something that night

TrickWilliams 07-12-2011 01:43 PM

A friday would work for me too...long as we meet up a little later in the afternoon. I work everyday of the week but I can sneak out early long as its not to early.

Wolfhame 07-12-2011 03:33 PM

Definitely set up this dinner/drive-in meet. I live like 3 miles from the Vali-Hi drive in and can probably do any day in August besides the 9th-12th.

Anyone good and helping check for exhaust leaks at all? Before I had the racing beat dual res midpipe and racing beat dual exhaust. With that there was almost like a whistle at part throttle at slow speeds. I tried redoing the gaskets 4 times but it never changed so I lived with it. I just installed the racing beat race pipe for brainerd on monday and it sounds like I have an exhaust leak again. Almost the same as before, but just louder now. I put in brand new gaskets and made sure to line everything up. I don't know if it's just how the car sounds with exhausts, but I either barely give it gas or give it a lot of gas because I hate the sound. Just wondering if anybody has any tips or tricks. I'm planning on tearing the midpipe out tomorrow and loading the gaskets up with hi-temp liquid copper gasket just to see if it will help at all.

ganseg 07-12-2011 10:38 PM

Its funny, with the custom midpipe I used to have, i had a bad leak and with the RB race pipe I had no leak. I can assure you it was no skill on my part. BTW, I had stock cat back both times.

I hope you have a great time at BIR. The 8 is a great handling car!

Wallets 07-12-2011 11:26 PM

wow i just got an exhaust rattle tonight or something i hope is an exhaust rattle it does it no matter what speed or idle and it sounds like metal bouncing on metal kind of like keys in your pocket. Its pretty annoying i had people look at me like i was driving a piece o crap car has anyone else had this problem?
