Rosemount MN 2004 RX08 "Velocity Red"

I have had my RX-8 for about a year and a half and I am in love with the car, although it has not been the most reliable ride.

I am not running winter rubber, I actually replaced the "stock" 18" tires with tires from Avon Tech M550 A/S's. These Avon tires are all season ZR Speed Rated Run Flat tires. They are outstanding in snow and they handle very well on dry pavement. The added bonus is that I don't have to worry about changing tires with the changing seasons. I drive my RX-8 quite "aggressively" and I have been impressed so far with the handling.

By the way there is another RX-8 "Velocity Red" roaming around Rosemount. So they may be more of us then you think.

I live in Apple Valley and dip into Rosemount once in a while. Probably not the one you've seen though, as I don't get down there too often.

Nice that you found some good all seasons. How long did you run on the stocks before you changed?

Also, we just put up some forums of our own so we can "spread out" a bit conversation wise- you can check it out at http://mnrx8club.com

RX-8 in the snow???

How is the car in the snow? My wife and I have been thinking about getting one. Are the rear seats useable? We have two small children that would get a ride in it here and there.

it is great in the snow...with snow tires of course

the rear seats are fully functional...my brother sits in the back some times and he is 6ft 2inches

it even has car seat attachments on both rear seats if you need it

My 8 drives better in snow (with snow tires) than any front wheel drive car I have owned!

But make sure and get traction and stability control if you plan on driving in the winter. It is worth it, even in the summer.

I don't drive mine in the winter, but I do have experience with the kids in the back.

As true noticed, there are child seat hold downs there. Any modern child seat with the "clips" work great and are extremely secure.

During the summer, I routinly ride around with a 9-year old and a 4-year old.. (I guess that will be a 10/5 year old next summer)

The only thing that I would say, if you kids like to "crawl around while you drive" (shame), the RX-8 isn't for you. They need to be properly belted and seated while driving in the RX-8, or it's probably less safe then a normal rear bench seat.

But as true said, there is plenty of room in the back for an adult, so there is plenty of room for a kid or two. (Just remember the 8 is a 2+2 configuration... so 4 people is max).

Ohh, and due to the suicide doors on the back, it's very important to watch fingers on the 8 when you close the door for the kids.. For some reason the hinge side is fascinating and they like to get a bit closer to it with their fingers then they should.

Glad you mentioned that fray I hadn't thought of that.

On occasion I take my nephews out and they love the car.

Makes me laugh, but my Uncle used to take my Sister and me for rides in his '67 Camaro

yup just to warn you. you'll have the biggest grin on your face when you sit in it, then start it. then put the car into first... do it nice and slow and notice how it goes in like a hot knife cutting through butter.. and enjoy the ride!

Milestone, I just crossed 4,000 miles on my 04 yesterday, which I bought new in June 04. I guess you can only drive so far on an island.

Stefon- how did your test drive go? Are you looking at a new or used one? If used, dealership or private party? Some of us may have some insight to local dealerships if you are poking around those. You are also welcome to come poke your head in at http://mnrx8club.com and say hi.

The back seat of the 8 does fine for my kids. Of course, if you are tall and have the seat back, it's pretty easy to get the "foot-in-the-back" from the kids while driving. Our toddler car seat fits perfectly (although I put a towel down on the seat first, to avoid the marks the car seat left in our minivan). The booster seat we have, however, doesn't fit so well. I'll probably end up buying a new one when our youngest outgrows the toddler seat.

Wow so my car was towed to the dealer 5 days ago for flooding and was awaiting parts. Well today I called and was told "yeah the parts on back order so its going to be the 22nd".... Thats a week and a half away . Better yet I'm 20 so that means no rental I can go get my *** shot in Iraq but I cant get a rental to use cause I'm to young When I asked if I could have one of my parents use the rental so I could have something to drive. He said he would check with his manager and remembered to mention that the rental with the car in the shop was based upon availbility. I said I'll take that shinka with 11k in milage thats been in your lot for 4 months it looks availble. He didnt seem to amused. I think im just cranky cause i havent been able to drive my baby for what seems weeks

woah what dealership are you going to we will all stay away!

I go to morries and I've never had a problem they fix the car promptly and they get parts shipments every day!

and they give me a rental car no questions asked...the enterprise rental is in the dealership! and they don't follow the over 25 rule for service center requests because it is owned by morries

what dealership is doing you wrong????

Yeah, no kidding, that's just not right.

What parts are on order? Can't they just deflood it and send you on your way, and have you come back on the 22nd? If the registration on my prism was current I would offer to let you drive that for a couple of weeks (if you could stomach it lol ;-) ).

This is the luthers in brookdale area. I bought my car there cause it was the only one that had the exact loadout I wanted. There were great for the sales side and my first 2 service trips but the last 2 times have been shity. Ever since they moved there dealer to the mitsu lot. So I'll see when they actually get the car done before I freak out and change to another dealers. Im thinking morries in minnetoka off 394. Anyone go there?

I've gone to Morries with excellent results every time, although a friend with an RX7 had a horrible experience, so YMMV

As for the valve stems, I suspect they can find me 4 of them without trouble..

(and I found one more TSB that needs to be dealt with.. the Milky substance when checking the oil.. YUCK that was nasty. 01-009/05)
I noticed the milky stuff when I checked my oil last night... How is the problem corrected? What information do I need to give the dealership so that they can locate the TSB? I've only had the car for about 3 weeks (loving it!), and it's my first new car so I'm not used to dealing with a dealership service department.

I'm also a Minnesotan (Farmington - Red/MT/Frnt&Side Aero Flares/spoiler). The car will be going into storage at the end of the week *sigh*, but will be back on the road at the first sign of spring!

Finally, I saw a picture somewhere on this site of an engine cover that was the same winning blue color as the car. It looked great! I'd love to get a red one for my car, but I can't find them anywhere, and I can't find the picture anymore. If someone could help me locate one, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!
