Ahh man... working on Saturday. :(

Speedrx8er 10-03-2006 06:43 AM

hmmmmmmmmmmmm Dang I think my parts are coming in this week.

Anyways,
Anyone do house electrical work?
I need a 230 v plug added.

Long story short.
Got a MIG Welder which requires 230 v.
thought I could use my dryer plug, but the plug holes is bigger then my welder.

BoosTED 10-03-2006 07:00 AM

Can you get a convertor for the plug?

fray 10-03-2006 07:10 AM

Can't use a converter.. if the plug is bigger it required more AMPs.

I've done electrical before. How clear is it between your electrical panel and where you need the new outlet?

As long as you have two open spots on your electrical panel, and a way to get the wire from there to where the MIG is going to be, it should be fairly simple. PM me and I can try to help.

Speedrx8er 10-04-2006 12:00 AM

Yahoooo thanks to Fray. I am started my first weld tonight hehehhe
dam it was an ugly weld

truemagellen 10-04-2006 01:23 AM

dang I want to try...hey if you have 220 or whatever now it would be easy to get a 220 only tig or other fun stuff.

BoosTED 10-04-2006 07:14 AM

Fray if his plug for the dryer was bigger than the welder it should have enough amperage for the welder, am I correct?

Did you guys end up roughing in a new outlet for your welder Speedrx8er?

Speedrx8er 10-04-2006 10:17 AM

ehehe turns out I have no space left.
So we had to get a subpanel.
Got some new breaker .
and washer and welder is on a seperate outlet :)

welder required 40 amp (if i remember correctly)

BoosTED 10-04-2006 04:31 PM

Was that more than the dryer?

fray 10-04-2006 05:13 PM

Welder says it uses 20 AMP continuous, 40 amp max.

Dryer is 30 amp.. (Sub-panel is 60 amps.. just cause that was the largest wire would could buy on short notice).

So I don't recommend Speed dry his clothes while he welds.. :) 30 + 40 > 60.. :)

truemagellen 10-04-2006 05:15 PM

his wife won't like that

she can't even clean his dirty clothing as he dirties it by welding!

BoosTED 10-04-2006 06:54 PM

That's what I was thinking fray. :)

Speedrx8er 10-04-2006 07:05 PM

heehehaha she is ok with it

New poster!

Whats up MN guys? Im from Lino Lakes (near Blaine 4 years.) Bummer I missed out on the latest meet. I was just wondering what you guys are going to do with your 8's this winter?

Personally im buying a 93 dodge dakota so I dont have to worry about my 8 going in the ditch.

My 8 is going to be sitting in my garage all winter. I'm going to have to fire it up once and a while to keep the blood flowing. Are there any other things I need to do to keep my 8 from seeing the harsness of winter?

Also,
have any of you guys had any experience with rs motor inc? http://www.rs-motors.net/

I have had my 8 since April and have been creeping around the forums reading and such. I haven't done any mods yet. I've been researching for quite some time now and think I should start by finding a reputable tuning shop, and getting an intx.

Glad to be here!

BoosTED 10-18-2006 06:49 PM

Cool to hear Bottleofink.

I'll be driving mine through the winter although most of my driving will be with my wife's car. ;) She just doesn't know it yet.

Actually I was going to call RS-Motors since they are a Tein dealer. Tein won't send out a set of threaded joint bolts, only can buy through a dealer like RS-...

I'll let you know how that goes. :)

My RX-8 is going in the garage for the winter.. what I do is fill it up w/ real gasoline, not the 10% ethanol we're supposed to have... pour in some StaBil and let 'er sit until spring. Then plug in the battery tender....

That worked great last winter, and I'm going to repeat it for this winter.

I've read about some people putting the car up on jack stands.. but I'd rather keep the suspension compressed. I _MIGHT_ slightly over inflate the tires to keep then rounder.. but I havn't had a problem with that for a few months of storage.

Bottleofink 10-19-2006 09:45 PM

Its going to be hard to resist driving this car on those nice winter days. :cylonA: It;s a sweet car to drive.

I am sure I will see some of you guys around the TC area!

We should do an end of the yearTC loop (494-35e-694-35w.) There are plenty of beautiful routes in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area that the Rx8 is just waiting see.

Any of you guys going to sevenstock? It will be nice to see some sort of RX-8 product debuts! (Mazdasport Turbo!) :ylsuper:

Later,

truemagellen 10-20-2006 01:53 AM

I was ready to go to Sevenstock but some last minute family things came up so it will have to wait until next year :(

BoosTED 10-20-2006 05:53 AM

Unfortunately I didn't get ahead on things so taking a few days off aren't in the picture at the end of this month either.

Hey Bottleofink have you seen our local site? www.mnrx8club.com

We do most of our planning for meets and such over there. Great idea about the loop. Throw it in the brainstorming thread on our site. ;)
