Speedrx8er 11-10-2008 08:11 AM

Well, my 8 is going to be stored this week.

TonyVS12385 11-12-2008 06:03 PM

Ahhh the first snowfall  there was a nice coat on the roads around 12am last night in Apple Valley... Oh what fun did I have with and without the traction control on.

I am going to see if I can do F1 and 90lbs in the back again this year, just not in a position to get Blizzaks financially... unless of course they were 20 dollars total.

I did All-Season last year and it was fine. Traction control is nice on the ramps and bridges.

For those who are driving for the first time in winter with their 8... Remember to shift! Stalling out is not fun in icy conditions, especially when you are a passanger!

I actually may be interested in this as I got some blizzak lm-22s priced at the local tireshop...over 230 a piece...what tires/rims?

Shnifty 11-13-2008 01:35 PM

What Tranny fluid do you guys run in your car? I'm getting some grinding and crunchy shifts. I don't know if it's the cold weather or if my Tranny just doesn't like Royal Purple.

MadeULook 11-13-2008 05:58 PM

I still have my stock rims for sale if anyone needs another set for the winter. I used them for about 3 months so they are pratically new[no curb rash or dents]. I was saving them for some blizzaks but I have decided to park her for this winter. You can PM me if interested.

Hey it's been a long time since I was able to log in here. I also see a lot of new people posting from Minnesota.

Anything new going on for the winter or things winding down again?

I think things are winding down. Not sure how many people store their cars for the winter but I'll be driving mine and will be up for meets.

RCChris 11-19-2008 04:14 PM

Mine will be mostly stored. It's got a set of Pirelli winters on just in case. I will drive it on days that it doesn't snow. Like today for example.

Nice, I had one. I gave it to my older brother when I brought the Rx8. He hasn't drove it in years. So I think we need to give it an overhaul. Is that Hunter Green color?

hold the gas pedal in and try to start the engine... no more than 8 sec, otherwise you will kill the battery. holding the gas pedal in will stop more gas getting to the engine. the gas inside should get out of the engine by doing this.

seen it done once, although never happened to me. apparently happens a lot in the cold, especially if you dont get your engine to operating temp before you turn it off.

RX-8skater 11-29-2008 11:21 AM

i tried that and it kept cranking and i also took ot my spark plugs and cleaned them up and still same thing

RCChris 12-06-2008 12:29 PM

Forgot it was going to snow yesterday....So I drove my RX8 to work. I also forgot how much fun the RX8 is in the snow....especially when you're climbing up a steep hill that hasn't been plowed. um...yeah...that was interesting.

Shnifty 12-08-2008 01:24 PM

umm yeah... no kidding. I've had a lot of fun drifting the last few days. I made the mistake however of following someone up a very steep incline (the one on grand) when it was snowing. Luckily they didn't stop because i would have slid back down the hill and ruined my car. It's been a while since i was that scared.

RCChris 12-08-2008 09:03 PM

Yeah......it's been tricky....Snow tires still = a joke when it's not plowed....but whatever.... :)

Snow pictures people! Post em!

Nice to see a fellow RX8 braving the snow.

lvb4udi 12-10-2008 09:11 AM

I wasn't sure what to expect out of my 8 this winter but so far I am very impressed. Tossed some Pirelli Sottozeros on it last month and have no problems getting around. I will post some pics of the winter setup in the next couple of days.

fray 12-10-2008 02:26 PM

Ha.. My garage is still a work in progress... so my car was out in the driveway when the cold and snow hit.

With the snow yesterday even deeper, I figured I should move it and shovel around where the car was.. with my Bridgestone Potenza S-03's the car wouldn't even move.. it just started sliding down the hill.. :P

I ended up having to screw in the top loop and pull the car to a shoveled (level) spot on the driveway with my Jeep.

I knew there was "little" traction with these tires and snow, I just didn't realize it was NO traction... (BTW I also found out you can "burn rubber" on snow with these tires! They left huge black marks on the top of the snow where they were spinning.. I didn't even think that was possible.)
