SE MIchigan 8's

We need to start thinking G2G for the spring so we can organize a little bit..

What does everyone think of like March 20th or something like that??

Please post up any ideas or dates! I'd like to see some of the other rides around here and chat it up with some other 8 owners.

What did you have in mind? Have you gotten a crew together before? I guess I'm open for suggestions if there is enough interest.

We can start with something small and just meet somewhere downtown for lunch sometime, We just all have to agree on a time/spot to do it.

Like Charles said, Just kick some ideas around, I'm sure will come up with something.

Hotlanta, nice.

Hey Chris, I am totally down. I can probably bring out a couple of other 8 drivers from Ford also.

By the way, i saw a brand new white rx-8 in Canton on Geddes and Canton Center going west this Saturday (2/19) around 1pm. Does it belong to anybody on this board?

Will you be here in time to go down the the Revolution with the MI Rotary Club? :D

And Charles, if I get my car together and broken in pre-Revolution we'll have to meet up somewhere. I've got a few ***-hats on the MI Forum with a Z and a Mustang that are just itching to watch the back of taillights.

Trust me, there's going to be a major line of them Friday night April 22nd at the Rotary Revolution during our Rotary Challenge. The word is spreading like wildfire, and you know how much those domestics hate our 1.3 ltr motor.

And when you're lined up against something, only one number matters the #1 when you cross the finish line first, not drivetrain loss. :D

M.E., I would relish the opportunity to hang with you and take down some "scores". (been watching "Heat" lately. Sorry.) Even though the turbo kit seems to have been put aside for the moment I still plan on going to the Rev with 350 rwhp. Ask me how!

Welcome Jordan. Good to hear you made it up here safely.

I haven't been to Monroe in a couple weeks, but maybe I'll see you rollin' around town this summer. I'm pretty good at spotting 8's. It's like Spider-sense or something...

I've been seeing my first Nordic Green around town lately... had a spoiler on it and looked pretty new.

Saw a fellow red on Mound during Sunday morning drive yesterday, but it chose not to follow, I think it stopped for gas.

MI FamilyMan....

Wonder if that Nordic Green is me?!? We just picked it up alittle over 2 weeks ago and live in Rochester Hills......love it! What a car! Sure glad we didn't get the MSM we originally were looking at!
I was in Troy last Friday (had to go back to the dealer) and again yesterday (taking my daughter to the doc). I've also got clear corners, strakes, and just painted the calipers silver. These mod's made a huge difference in the look. Oh yea, I also just ordered the RX8Store exhaust yesterday! Where abouts in Troy are you? The only other 8 I've seen is a Red one going north on Livernois last week. What color is your 8? I'm always on the look out for others as well. You don't see many around.....I think that's a good thing....the uniqueness. I've already had two people ask me if it was a Porsche!

apotocki: I too have had the "Porsche" comment. I live in Orion Twp. & work in Rochester. If you see a brilliant black 8 WITHOUT the clear corners, that's me. Just lazy... I'll get to changing the corners. Getting calipers & rusty rotors painted soon. I've never enjoyed a car more than this 8! This weekend provided the opportunity for an extended polish/wax session. Very "zen like" after a long winter. Happy motoring, guys... I'll see ya on the road!

To see rxeighter's excitement when he drove with his new ACT flywheel was payment enough for me.

Perhaps I would suggest we build on this "enthusiasm" and perhaps schedule some kind of meet. I would be interested in getting some RB screens and painted rotors/calipers done if there are any people interested in gathering somewhere. Anybody interested? Then maybe I can convince a few people to join me at Waterford on June 6th.

Alan, it may very well could have been you. I last had my 8 out on Sunday morning, which is usually when I get to drive it most. I am actually in Sterling Heights, in the neighborhood of the Van Dyke dealership, but work in Rochester Hills. I'm red, BTW. If that was your Nordic Green, it looked real sharp. Gave me a new opinion of the color. What kind of exhaust did you get? If you are interested in Charles' offer, I think it would be neat to see one installed.

RotaryDad, maybe if everyone is interested in getting together, we can have a rotor and caliper painting party. Mine are long overdue as well.

I just clayed and waxed my 8 too, so I can't wait to get on the road again.

MI_FamilyMan - I live in Roch Hills, just north of OU. We've been driving the 8 quite a bit in the past 2 weeks so it's probably a good chance we were the one you saw. I have to admit, I don't think I've EVER seen another 8 in our area (that includes the past couple of years as well) so if there's another green running around, I'd be very surprised. Thanks for the compliment on the color. We really like it......under certain light it looks midnight blue but it is a nice dark shade of green with metallic in it.

I grew up in the Sterling Hgts area (actually probably not far from you - 17 and Plumbrook) so I'm very familiar with it but don't get over that way very much. Where abouts in Roch Hills do you work? I work out of the home so maybe we could get together at lunch (or during the day sometime)?

You should get the clear corners - they make a big difference. I found them for 57.95 with free shipping and they were the actual factory part. Installing them is a breeze and took me no more than 15 minutes!

I researched many exhausts (cat-back) over the past week or so and finally decided to get the 'RX8Store' exhaust. In reality, this system is a Magnaflow system. I had a very hard time deciding between RacingBeat and this one. After hearing sound clips of the RB system and reading many threads, I decided that the RB system was just a bit too quiet for my $600 and didn't appear to be much different than stock (other than when you get on it). The RX8Store exhaust is supposed to be very deep and throaty.....but just a step up in the loudness from RB. It's not as loud (so I'm told) as Greddy or Borla.....I hope all I've read is right or my wife is gonna kill me! I may be getting it in time for the week-end, but not sure. Installation on this is supposed to also be very easy (with the exception of getting the old system off of the hangers!)

I saw another RED last night going north on Roch Rd between Wattles and Long Lake.....the 2nd RED I've seen in the past week. I flashed him and he responded with a wave.

RotaryDad - Hello! as I said to FamilyMan, if you are interested in clear corners, I got them for 57.95 with free shipping....install was super easy and about 15 minutes total.
As to the calipers - do them yourself!. I went to Murray's and got a Duplicolor Kit. I painted all (4) and had the wheels back on in about 2 hours (and that was putting 3 coats of paint on each). The 'hardest' part was probably taping off the brake pads! Hmmm....painting the rotors? I didn't think to do that.....what part of the rotor?
I also enjoy this car tremendously.....I'm like the guy hugging the car in the commercial! I'll also be throwing a fresh coat of polish and wax on it this weekend. What do you use. In the past, I've used Meguiars #7 Polish followed by #26 Wax....
Take care and maybe we'll see you soon!

Hi Charles!

Thanks for the information. I had also heard that you can use large channel locks, and if you wanted to spend the money, they make a special tool for around $25-$30 that makes removing a breeze. I think I'll try the WD40/Dawn dishsoap, large screwdriver, and brute strength approach!
After reading about your '8', I certainly know who to come to if I choose to do any other 'mods'!! Sounds like you have quite a car! At this point, after the exhaust, I'm gonna slow things down a bit and enjoy. Only other change I may make will be a RB intake towards the end of summer....but I want to understand more about them and investigate exactly what I would gain from that.

Take care.

Ok, there's this event down in Indy...lol

Honestly, if you want to learn more about the car there is no better way than joining the MI rotary club caravan and heading down to Indy on April 22nd. Our keynote speaker (not announced yet even) is Alan Johnson from Mazda corporate and he will be doing a seminar specifically on the Renesis and what makes it so much better than past rotary engines.

We will also have PTP Motorsports there with their RX-8 and bolt-on turbo kit that is expected to raise the car over 300 whp.

Daryl Drummond will be there. Daryl builds every renesis motor that is in every StarMazda racecar.

I could go on, but I think you get the idea. There will be more rotary vehicle knowledge at this event than you can get anywhere.

Come on down, it's going to be a great time!
