I probably could do the calipers myself... just gotta make the time. As far as the rotors, I should be more specific... it's the "hub" section that is prone to rust & visible thru the wheel openings. I saw mention of a Mazda factory bulletin elsewhere in the forum related to this... I'll need to look it up again. Basically it was instructions to dealers for when owners complained of the rusting.

As far as the waxing goes, I used the Klasse Products... "All in One" followed by the "High Gloss Sealant". It's my first time with these. Very easy use, but the Sealant was kind of finicky (streaky)... It was cool out when I waxed, so I may have needed to allow for more drying time. Detailing spray fixed the streaking. Absolutely fantastic shine... time will tell regarding longevity. MI Family Man's idea of a caliper painting party might be kind of cool way to get together. I can see my wife's reaction now... ("a cali- what painting party?"). I'll need graphs & diagrams to get her to understand! Happy motoring... maybe we'll cross paths soon!

Rotary - Hmmmm.....darn, wish I would have known/thought of painting the rotor hubs when I did the calipers! I guess that will give me yet another reason to spend more time in the garage with my 'baby'! You mention that Mazda has instructed Dealers about rotor rusting? What are they doing about it?

My Dad taught at Stevenson and then moved over to Churchill when it opened. He ran the ski club there for years.

Well, I graduated in 1978.....if he was there, I'm sure I probably knew him. My mother has worked there for years and is still there.

I received a letter from Mazda yesterday asking if I wanted to test a modded rx8. The little thing is going to happen at the Dearborn Inn, Any of you receive these? There going to pay me 100 dollars to test drive for a little over an hour.

I'm going on the 25th Of April to go test drive it I am going to tell them every little detail. I know they were doing this before with other people across the nation I guess they finally just got to michigan. When I talked to the lady to set up the apointment, SHe did say I was the first one to call so will see. I let you guys know how it went.

Just joined the forum today to see what mods are out there for the MT. Live in Redford mine is black with Enkei 6 spoke rims. Not sure if you have seen me. I don't drive it in the winter. Just got it back from some nice person backing into it. Now time for some mods. Just don't know what yet. My R1 takes a lot of my money.

Redfusion, I got the same letter. I wasn't aware it was a modded 8, how so? And do you drive a auto or stick 8? The letter was specific to say that the criteria for this test was that the driver has to 1) own an automatic Mazda and 2) have a valid DL. I want to sign up but mine is stick...did they let you do it too?

OK - The RX8Store exhaust is on!.....but not without a bit of trouble. I had absolutely no trouble getting the old oem exhaust off - the rubber hangers were a breeze with silicone and a large Craftsman screwdriver! I had more of a problem getting off the exhaust finisher!

Installing the new.......I had a bear of a time trying to get the pipe bolted onto the cat. The exhaust flange was just a bit cocked from the original and there wasn't a whole lot of thread (make that none!) showing to get the nuts started. After 1 hour, yes, 1 hour, I finally got them on.
Also, the hanger for the intermediate pipe is a bit too long and rubs.....I'm probably going to have to remove the exhaust and cut about 1 inch off of it.
As to the sound......wow.....this is a bit louder than I expected. It has a great throaty, deep tone across most of the rpm spectrum. It does calm down when you reach a cruising speed. I also notice a bit more jump.....at least it seems. It seems like the car is loosened up a bit, and has a bit more low end torque. There would definitely be more flow with the 3 inch pipe and flow-thru Magnaflow muff's and maybe that's what's making a difference.
The system looks great...I love the tips...bigger than stock but not overwhelming.
Now.............the real test will be to see what my wife says about it.....,....
Wow, took her for a ride and she liked it - said it reminded her of her old 240Z (not sure if that is good or bad!?)

The lady on the phone told me it was modded, I dont know with what..parts?, new ecu? I have no idea.

I have an auto although I regret it every day of my life.

I am going, I called the number on the letter, IF you decide to go let me know will meet up. I am suppose to be there at 7am.

Oh and here is my rx8, You'll know its me cause I have a rare one.

I talked to Boshart the other day, they are trying to get a cross section of the RX8 "target" market. If you have any questions, call them (number should be on the letter), they are very helpful.

No, I was talking to them about the testing they did on my RX8. I guess I'm not in the "target" market for an auto RX8

I called Boshart this morning and they said even though I have a manual, as long as I am familiar with the paddle shift system I am eligible. They would call back with a time next week though, so I don't know when I am going. And, I think they have a few different programs maybe...when I called I had to specify the shift evaluation program, because the lady thought I meant emissions testing at first. Maybe that's the one you're signed up for. Hopefully they have a good time for me to go, I've gotta get it around work.

Boshart is doing 2 different sets of testing for the RX8 right now, emissions and this auto testing. They also have different test for the other Mazda vehicles that I don't know about.

Yes, although they only provide cars that Mazda has available. Over easter I had an MPV (which definately helped) and after the MPV I had a Mazda 3.

I may be interested if they have a 6...i test drove a 6sp auto, and i really liked it. sad to say if they cut me a good lease term. deal, i may have to consider it...horror
