In this case there's NO reason to put a 20B NA in a RX-8. All you'd do is spend 5x as much money for the same or less HP and get worse driveability compared to a FI Renesis. Well almost no reason, it would be cool!

ha ha shoot i think i studied for finals like 20 hours for all my classes, but then again my grades seemed to show my lack of effort. hell my GPA shows my lack of effort throughout my college career. but my BAC is always high!! ha ha...classic modo is: C's and D's get degrees!!! lol
im just a measley little 4 port (said that for you Ryan) so i could use all the help in the engine department i can get.

If you're going to own a rotary, you gotta stop that kind of thinking ... hang out with the 7 guys for awhile and you'll understand

Those that see the other side, understand
For example, if I turbo'ed my 8 for $10k, and got the "magical" mark of 300whp on a 3,000lb car, I will only have increased power and wear on the engine, brakes, tires, drivetrain, etc...
If I take that $10k, and add a little bit to it, and drop a Renesis into a Miata, I get the same power to weight, without adding engine wear and reducing wear on the rest of the drivetrain, and better handling to boot (wear and handling is compared to a stock 8)
I could take a Miata and go FI for around $4k for approximately the same peak power, but the intangible loss that comes from not having a rotary engine any more and having to drive the coarse and annoying piston engine makes that unappealing.
Just an example of the reasons OTHER than power to do a swap
I can easily see why someone would go NA 20b in their 8, though obviously not for the same reasons I just noted with the Miata

I'm not sure what 'other side' you're talking about? If you're talking about the reliable side, that's why I keep my 8 pretty much stock and go crazy with the FD ... but once you start talking about engine swaps, reliability is out the door. ANY engine swap is a very complex undertaking and requires a very educated and diligent owner.
I still can't see why you'd put a NA 20B in a RX-8. They're no more reliable than a FI Renesis, in fact I'd say the end result would be much less reliable in most cases once you consider all the complications involved with stand alone engine management.
Theoreticals involving a Miata are different cases, we're talking about 8's here. But even for a Miata, I can't imagine why you'd do an engine swap unless you're building a track car. And then why would you care about wearing out brakes and tires?

Well I'm not trying to 'own' and other local guys ... I've just been involved with a lot of this type stuff and know all the headaches that go into it that people don't anticipate. The idea of swapping a 20B into an 8 brought this up, and while it would be sick for a track/weekend car, I wouldn't even think about it for your primary means of transportation.
Even a rotary into a Miata, I can't imagine why you'd do it unless you have a track monster in mind. And then, why only go 1/2 way?

All I was saying is that there are different reasons for people to spend their money.
Some spend it because they just want a project, and once the project is done, they sell it and move to something else.
Others spend it to make a monster, massive numbers, or crowd shocker.
Others spend it for their own enjoyment, tastes, and desires without any bearing on anyone else, and often the end results are intangible
For example, I can't understand why someone would spend a week or even weekend in Vegas in the casinos unless you are simply looking to build a memory and accept that it will cost you a hell of alot.
I am spending around $2k on a round the country trip in my 8 that includes Sevenstock. It won't give me anything but memories, and I see it as worth 100% of the price.
If you can accept that, then you can accept that even spending money on something tangible can be for an intangible reason

^^^You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah, you're right, I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you... but I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Well, you think what you want about me; I'm not changing. I like... I like me. My wife likes me. Well for now my 8 is my daily driver but as of winter it won't it's gonna be a track or show car have not decided. I do love the fd but I hate how the fc looks, but as I have said my goals turned into long ones after Vegas spending and blowing tires and then the dead motor in the middle of

Riwwp I highly recomend next ears Vegas meet rather cheap to
be honest. Hotels for us 50 a night, our events were cheap hit a casino play heap games and u get free drinks at the casino start there for a bit then go out. I spent like 140 on alcohol and 60 was on others. It's really a decently cheap
amazing time u can even fly there an I promise someone will pick you up and drive u around. It was quite amazing experience for me at 22

lol I was thinkin the same thing. Brett do you keep summer tires on your car the whole year or do you have all seasons, I'm trying to find a well priced good preformance all season tire for the whole year considering I won't be bringing my oem rims up to school with me.

bignatex: yea im normally in CoMo but will be in stl until sunday. But im sure ill be bored and working on my car sometime this weekend. plus this GReddy front strut just looks to sexy not to be in my engine bay already.
Charlie: I run UHP tires all year, but up here when there is snow on the ground i leave the 8 parked and either hitch a ride with a friend, call the girlfriend, ride the bus, or use it as an excuse to skip class. ha ha, but i just use the UHP tires all year.

yea not sure about Wash u, but Mizzou is pretty compact meaning once your on campus you can walk to any building, so i just hitch a ride for the day and find a ride back later on. but yea if your gonna be driving the 8 through bad weather i dont think all seasons would be abd at all. I just love my UHP tires, and they were fairly cheap i think like $125 a piece and that was a year or so ago.
bignatex: yea im sure ill try and drag ryan out and do somethin ill make sure and let you know before anything happens, hooters at kiener plaza sure sounds nice right now. ha ha charlie we will have to say hi to that waitress for you. lol

Also going back to my previous question would I be crazy to drive with summer tires in light snow?
EDIT: This past year I had summer tires in the front and all-seasons in the back... and I was fine but would having summer all around make it stupidly dangerous I mean stl doesn't get too much snow
