Wow, I've been without internet access for a day and all this happens?
ANYWAY... How does something at Union Station sound? Like perhaps Hard Rock Cafe (is it still there?) or something else. That way there's plenty of parking and if we wanted to "link it up" to the show we could.

I'd be running a little late if we meet at noon. I coach 'til 11:00 and will need to run home to pick up the girlie. 12:30 and I'm certain to be on time. But of course we ARE talking about chico here... I'd say YOU show up at 12:00 and the rest of us will be there at 12:30. We should all be arriving at the same time then.

Any of you STL guys heading to this auto show this weekend. I got this email the other day. I was planning on attending it and checking it out.
Tuxedo Park Racing Open House and Car Show
Tuxedo Park Racing Open House and Car Show
Everyone is invited to come check out our new space, facilities and
race cars January 27th from 11:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.
This should be a good time, we expect a good crowd and plenty to see
and do. There will be giveaways, a Mazda-specific car show,
demonstrations of our Dynapack 3000 chassis dyno and much more.
Free popcorn and soda will be available, plus fresh grilled hot
sandwiches at a reasonable price.
Dyno demonstration pulls will be made at 11:45, 1:15 and 2:45. If
you're serious about performance tuning and you've never seen a Dynapack in
action this alone will be worth the trip. Tours of our fabrication,
machine shop and mechanical facilities will be offered throughout the day.
We will have a small car show open to Mazda powered and Mazda bodied
vehicles with a $100 cash prize for the first place finisher. (Details on
the car show and rules will be posted in another thread). Winner will
be crowned at 2:00 p.m.
Our SCCA road race RX-8 and Mazdaspeed Turbo Miata will be on display,
along with numerous customer cars featuring both import and domestic
platforms and powerplants.
Vendors and partners scheduled to attend with demonstration, hand-outs
and samples of the work:
stlsr.com - Will be there with merchandise and other giveaway stuff
Solo Performance Specialities - bringing along their mobile store
offering helmets, safety equipment, Redline products and more
St. Louis Customs - showcasing their custom appearance, paint and audio
work
Izzy's Custom Cages - one of our partners in roll cage and fabrication
work
New Signs Fast - vinyl graphics, complete car wraps, signs and printing
Sports Car Club of America - the oldest and largest auto enthusiast
club in the U.S.
Penthouse Club - classy adult entertainment right next door to the shop
Archel Group - powdercoating and specialty metal finishing
And we are adding more daily!
Did we mention that we are in Sauget IL and there are plenty of places
to party after the openhouse right next door?
Ok...Cars, Free Stuff, and STRIPPERS....what more could you ask for in
an event? BE THERE!

headed west, and the first when headed east, just across the river from
downtown St. Louis.
Go through one traffic light then take a right in front of the gas
station on "Yellow Brick Road". Head toward "Pop's" nightclub, then turn
right immediately in front of the "Penthouse Club".
Drive north along the building until you get to Bay #4 (there are big
"4's" painted on the wall).
Entrance is through the roll-up door. If the door is closed, lift it up
and come on in. We will have a temporary "person sized" door up in

Dos - I think we're going to the STL auto show instead.
About lunch before hand, I won't attend lunch, but my lady and I will meet up with you guys either at Union Station before you head there, or at the actual show.

Sounds like a plan. I think chico's got your number, so he'll have to give you a jingle when the dining portion of the date is over. I thought I had your number, but I don't, so I won't.
Also, any of you who haven't come out to any of our little get-togethers come on down! If you want to meet up with us I can PM you my phone number.

Did everyone get together for the show? I would have joined but we had to get going early and be out of there by 3 PM. The RX8 is still the best looking sports car at the show regardless of price. The CX7 and CX9 are also amazing considering that they're really just pimped-out station wagons.
Outside of Mazda, the 4 door Jeep unlimited cought my attention, its a great look. Other than a suprisingly impressive Saturn Aura sedan, much of the show was blah.
I think Ford's in deep trouble. The Edge is supposed to be their turnaround vehicle. I know that if I saw that in the showroom I'd turnaround...and leave the dealership.

Chico elder, fisherdn, and I all met up with our significant others. The phantom blue 8 definitely looked nice. As far as memorable cars of the show... I can't say I was really impressed. I was really hoping for a bit more concept cars or something (maybe even a surprise turbo'ed Mazdaspeed 8). I mean, I realize this is a dealer-driven show, but it would've been nice to see something cool that's on the horizon. Also there weren't any entries from the local exotic dealers either.

That's true H20, - you'd think that a place like the Fast Lane would want to bring a few cars to show them off and generate some interest. Have you ever gone there to look around? That's a fun place to visit.

I drive by every day on the way home from swimming/coaching. Every once in a while they've got something hot on the rotating pedestal. They recently had a Porsche 911 GT3. Also every day I pass a nice little dealer on Lindbergh that's always got "gently used" exotics and other rare autos.
Who I really wanted to see represented at the show was the Maserati/Bentley dealer in Chesterfield Valley. Or maybe even a Lambo Gallardo or Murcielago (sp?). Oh well, lesson learned for next year.

The auto show was a good time. We ate raw food, were offered the chance to tour the kitchen, had our souvenir glasses stolen, told we were the best looking men in St Louis, braved the cold, and panic'd like little school girls when security was trying to assist us.
As for the acutal show I was unempressed. As Waterlogged said there were no concept cars at all. No Bentley's, Roll's, Austin Martin's, Lamborgini's, any per say fantasy vehicles. Besides the retro Dodge challanger. There wasnt even a spark of originality. I thought at least one dealer would have had a different type of set up or something unique.

I hear you, Chico, but you have to remember, we don't live in LA. Most drivers in this town are most concerned about whether the cup holders are big enough to hold their big gulp and their triple-meat chalupa (and are the seats are big enough to hold their big *****) and can they get it all for $300 a month? Very few Bentley buyers in this town.
And I don't want to know what got the security gaurd interested in you hooligans!!

I will let waterlogged tell you about the (metro link) security gaurd. Let's just put it this way I would not want to rob a bank with him. I fear the interigation would only last 15 seconds before the police knew everything. Darn those trustworthy, honest guys with charactor.
But still insn't St. Louis considered a big market? I know it's not the grand opening in Detroit but.............I am from Philadelphia, and the auto show there is much much more than what we saw on Saturday. It just seemed like a piece of an auto show for a small po-dunk town. I guess I just wanted to see more - Just like at the strip clubs.

Yeah, Chico, I hear you, but...St. Louis is the19th largest Metro Area and slipping. I don't know where "podunk" starts, but we'll probably qualify when we slip down the next rung of the ladder.

OK the security gaurd story. The sea was angry that day my friends........Sorry that's another story. We where at the Hard Rock Cafe. Since we already paid for parking and wanted to avoid paying a premium and fight traffic we decided to take the Link. Unfortunately we were not inteligent enough to figure out the whole automated ticket purchasing program that they had. We got tickets for one way travel good until 4pm. Guess what no one took or checked our tickets. I do not know who designed the honor system in a downtown city but my guess........... not profitable. Any way we did not leave the Auto Show until about 5pm or 6 - ish. On the way back to our cars.........Trusting the honor system we decided not to purchase additional tickets but if caught would immediately claim suburban ignorance. We even rehersed lines. "These tickets aren't any good?" and "I did not see the machine to purchase tickets, however we have these." and my lines "The white guy made me and I can't read...Can't we all just get along". Well on the way a metrolink security gaurd did stop us. But only to ask if we needed help with directions since we looked lost or confused about which side of the tracks to stand on. Waterlogged face went from a pale biege to a beat red. The overhelming honesty in his body started him to slightly convulse (simular to Elaine dancing on Seinfeld). He went to respond to the gaurd but proceeded to stutter aimlesly on the verge of dropping to his knees and confessing our crime. Luckily the 7 dollar an hour security gaurd was on his p's and q's and immedialey turned around with the work avoidance of an inner city mother collecting welfare. As we were safely on the Link just started laughing once we got Waterlogged heart restarted.
I tease Waterlogged of course. And I appreciate his sense of humur. It was very funny and I guess you would have to have been there.

Chico, hilariously related. I think Chris Rock has a little competition.
I know what its like to have one's suburb-anity give you away.
Maybe the next meeting should be Crown Candy Kitchen?

A lot of people here have aftermarket exhausts and I think they're good to go w/ their warranties. Obviously the new exhaust and possibly the connection coming from the cat won't be covered.
