My concern with the high flow cat would be noise. I have the Mazdaspeed dual exhaust. I would be ok with a bit more noise, but not a ton more. I believe RD told me I could get one with a resonator that would help keep the noise down - am I remembering right? Also, any warranty/CEL issues with high flow cats?

Warranty, possibly It is a violation of federal law to replace a catalytic that is not failed. That would depend on how much your dealer wanted to break your ***** about something like that and what the warranty issue was. I thought I remembered you saying you had a good relationship with your dealership, may try just flat out asking them next time you are in there.

having a high flow cat should keep the CEL away. It would work as the OE would...the light would/should only come on if the cat has failed. I think the mazdaspeed exhaust with a resonated highflow should be slightly quieter than RD's car now. I don't believe his high flow is resonated. Correct me if I'm wrong though?

Seems like some people love the K&Ns, some hate them. My first thought about high flow filters is that if it lets more air through, it must let more bad stuff through, but some things I've read said that is not necessarily the case, or at least not significantly so, due to differences in filter design, materials, etc. I did see where K&N will pay your repair costs if a Mazda dealer denies your repair under warranty due to the K&N filter. They pay the dealer and then fight with the dealer to get their money back.
Lots of ppl around here say a lot of things about the K&N filters. I don't really know what to believe - if anything. If it does give some hp or anything else its not going to be detectable with the butt dyno. That being said I will probably get a K & N when mine is ready to be replaced. Just clean and oil and the thing never has to be replaced again, which is nice. And its red, which we all know is the fastest color. The more red you have on your car, the faster it is. If they will pay a repair bill, thats even better.

DD - Did you notice a big difference on the track with the MS sways? The M3 guy thinks your MS mods made you very fast.
I noticed the car didn't roll as much but I also had the MS springs and struts. I have pictures from RA before MS suspension Mods and after. You can see the difference in body roll.

As for Autobahn, it is a great track. I have only ran the south track but I hear that the north track is more technical. Not sure whichj one I'll do but I would love to do it on Monday so I can run the full track. The only concern is traffic on a Monday both there and back.

It's an unresonated RP cat, matched with a Tanable Hyper Medallion cat back. We've all heard it before, I guess make your own call as to whether you want something louder or quieter. I think Rotary Performance will sell you the same unit as mine but for a bit extra will weld in a resonator.

I have the K&N for the very reason that it is that only one you'll have to purchase. It doesn't give any power (noticeable anyway) and it doesn't improve idle or gas mileage.

If you're going FI - turbo or SC - at some point, than I'd advise against any sort of intake as it will have to go, and that would be wasted money...just my opinion, though.

Long story, short - a power cable winch (I gues that's what it is) fell off the celing of Mac's garage and onto my windshield and put one hell of a crack in it...it came down with such force that it bounced like a tennis ball forward and thankfull right over the hood of my car without even touching it...so all it cost was a new windshield and that was it. Great fun.

I said it before but it bears repeating. I hadn't handled that cord caddy, winch, whatever in a couple years since it was hung on the ceiling and i had forgotten how heavy that damn thing was until i picked it up off the garage floor.

You should bring the M3 to the track day if your car isn't fixed...

Note to all spectators: being a long-time track spectator ... I have to say Gingerman may be one of the most boring tracks to watch. There's nothing there and the viewing area shows you one straight or one turn (you pick which one you wanna see). Just giving you guys the heads-up if you're dragging along a wife/gf because I wanted to gouge my eyes out at that track. YAWN! The only thing that saved it was that they had Milky Way bars in the fridge at the tiny snack shop.

Wanted you to be prepared

OK, don't tell my wife that if she comes to the meet tonight

I did see where it looks like you can walk to some sort of little hill where you can see the whole track. I've seen a video shot from there.

I'm hoping she'll want to do some ride alongs with somebody to keep her entertained.

Our secret

PS: they didn't allow ride-alongs the time I went so that does make a big difference.

Hey RSD - if you come to the meet, do you promise to talk to her about something besides cars? She thought about coming, but gets bored with talking about nothing but cars... I don't understand it myself, but I've always said that any man who says he understands women is either gay (not sure what the politically correct term for gay is now) or a liar.

Ok, I must be annoying the crap out of you guys with all these questions, as I'm even annoying myself at this point...

How many quarts of oil do you guys recommend I bring next weekend? I've got two in the trunk right now - do I need to pick up more than that? I wouldn't think so, but as ya'll know I'm pretty ignorant...

They allow ride alongs with a driver that has a competition license. So the instructors would be able to take her out when they don't have a student.

Also you can walk around the entire outside of the track and spectate from anywhere around there.

I can also talk about dogs, chocolate cake, and my fascination with shiny things.

I know you asked BR, but I know I'm not going to be able to make it that weekend - unfortunately I'm already committed to something.

I'm thinking about trying the NASA weekend in October there, depending on how this weekend goes. And the price. I know they are going to be running some things besides HPDE there, so I'm not going to pay too much just to get one or two times on the track.

I did take a look at the shelby club day before I realized I was booked that weekend - seemed expensive compared to some other track days I've seen listed around here, but maybe not.

It seems NASA will pretty much always get you on the track 4 times a day.

The Nasa Autobahn is only on Monday and it's the full track. I will more then likely only be able to do the weekend, I may have to stick with Shelby.
