I would say that it might be possible, but you would want to have wherever you take them check out the thickness with a micrometer. It would suck to have a rotor explode on you.

F-body is SUPER relaxed compared to NASA.

More than likely you won't need to resurface them. Have them checked for runout. If it is within factory spec just take some scotchbrite/light sandpaper to them to take off any pad build up and reuse. this is, of course, as long as there is no stress cracking. If there is stress cracking then replace.

This is the schedule I am thinking about doing right now. Gotta get somethings with the car sorted really soon to be driveable for Mid-O.

April 11-13 2008 • Mid-Ohio (+Enduro)

May 17-18 2008 • Putnam Park

June 7-8 2008 • Grattan(+Enduro)

July 19-20 2008 • Autobahn - South (+Enduro Full Course)

August 1-3 2008 • Road America(+Enduro)

And Maybe any random combination of...

June 28-29 2008 • Mid-America (+Enduro)

September 6-7 2008 • Gingerman (HPDE Only)

October 11-12 2008 • Putnam Park

October 13 2008 • Autobahn - Full Track

MAM and Gingerman are the most likely out of this group.

I'll check them to make sure. I'm planning on doing all the NASA events at RA, and Autobahn. Maybe even Gingerman if you guys go. I need to look how far the other ones are.

Mid-Ohio is about 4-4.5 hours from me over into central Ohio.

Putnam is about 1.5-2 hours directly south of me in west central Indiana

Grattan is about an hour further north than Gingerman so it should be about 2-2.5 hours northeast of me in central Michigan.

Mid America I believe is 3-4 hours from me west into Iowa.

If you go to Putnam Park let me know and I will try to join you. I am basically from there and I wanted to check out some of the events this year anyway.

Everything I green I seriously plan on going to right now. Everything in blue is a toss up at this point. I will verify when I register for events to be sure though.

Autobahn is a relatively short drive you for and a track I would highly recommend getting to. MAM may not be a bad drive from where you are either....but you would have to mapquest that to know for sure.

For anyone who hasn't seen this yet, www.trackpedia.com is a great reference.

Wish they would let you register for just one day. From what I've seen, and what I remember the instructor saying at Gingerman, most of the NASA HPDE events require you to register for both days.

I'm an AMSoil *****. I've got their 5w-30 GL4 in the trans forget off the top of my head which exactly is in the diff. It's AMSoil and its a GL-5.

I've got Redline in the Tranny and Rear Diff.

Mac - I am going to be in Indiana the weekend of May 17th so if you are going to Putnam Park I should be able to make it for at least one day. My wife wants to take our son to the "Backlardigans" Show.

When I looked at the signup info for gateway (wasn't planning on going, just investigating the sigh-up thing), they only offered the two day option.

There is SAE crankcase and SAE gear ratings. This is just put in terms of crankcase instead of gear. You can see from the chart that a 5w-30 is just sightly different than a 75w-90 gear rating - a bit less viscos.

Engine oil and gear oil is roughly the sameiscosity. That doesn't mean you can put engine oil in your trans. There are major differences is the formulations and additives of the oils.

Except that your 30 rating and the gear 90 rating are very different. For a trans that spins as fast as ours and sits next to the cat.... I'm not sold.

Keep in mind thats not a measure of thick or thin. It's a measure of viscosity.

It was the best feeling, best shifting trans I have ever felt in any car I've ever driven. It was much better than the same trans, in the same car with a different fluid, and I drove at the track. I'm not trying to convince you to buy the stuff, just reporting my experience.

Ok, so I got the wife convinced to let me go to the MFBA RA event, but sadly can only attend the Sunday session due to work. Thats ok as I only live about 2 hours from the track. Couple quick questions for those of you that have run there before. I already have a couple approved helmets so thats handled.

1. My car is COMPLETLY stock, which brake pads should I be looking at? Front and Rear or just front? Fluid?
2. How is passing handled at this event?
3. Is the engine overheating problem an issue at this event. I wouldnt think so since it wont be 90= outside.

If this is your first time on a track don't worry about getting pads or changing fluids, just make sure you have at least 50% pad left on both front and rear. Also make sure that your fluid is clean, if you haven't changed it in a while then it might be a good idea to swap before the event. I use Motul RBF600 as do others. If you do need pads or just want to change them, it all depends on your plans. If your thinking about tracking your car a few times a year I suggest the following. Get Carbotech bobcats for the rear and front and get Carbotech's XP-8 for the front only. When it comes to race day just swap out the fronts. This set-up has worked gret for me.

2. How is passing handled at this event?

The MFBA is more lax then most clubs, the last few times I ran with them they allowed passing all the time except in the corners. There are some really short places to pass but most in the novice group stay clear from passing there.

I never had an issue with overheating. I have ran there when the weather was >90.
If you do go try not to sign up until you get the five day forcast. I have done this the last few times to avoid a rain day. They never fully fill up.

I've only been to the track once, but Mac and Red Devil recommended that I change to ATE Super Blue brake fluid before I went. Good insurance in making sure the fluid doesn't overheat. I ran with this fluid and stock pads with no problem. But I ran at Gingerman, which is a lower speed track than RA. Of course the longer straights might offset the heat generated by the faster braking zones.

Just relax and drive at a pace that you are comfortable with. Start slow and work your speed up slowly, and only as you are comfortable. It is not a race, and you should not treat it as such. Don't be hesitant to wave people by. As long as you do that people appreciate that you are new and don't give you a hard time at all. The ones that get a hard time are the people (both new and experienced) who refuse to waive faster cars by them.

Your first session out is going to be sensory overload, most likely. I know I kind of had tunnel vision that only went out about 50 feet in front of the car. You may have driven at the same speeds on the roads (at Gingerman I never got much over 90), but the turns come up a lot faster and more frequently than they do on the highway. Driving 90 into turn 1 at Gingerman feels a lot faster than driving 90 on the tollway.

But by the end of the first day, my vision had opened up considerably. On the second day I was picking people out in the stands and carrying on a relaxed conversation with my instructor.

I think I am going to go ahead and change out the brake fluid just to be safe. Ill have to double check my pads tommorrow to see where I am at. I usually do auto X, but have been trying to make this event for two years now and cant wait!

It is really an awesome track to run at, and most of the turns are FAST turns.
