"Rx Eight 7s" posted this in the hotel poll but asked that it be moved to this thread. I think it's a generous offer and a great idea! I love driving my car - more than I should! - but I have a herniated disc so a stop around noon sounds good to me! Free lunch is always a plus!!

I live 15 minutes North of Saratoga (check the map) in the country on 100 acres of land with a house that was made for big parties. If the bulk of the group leaves from NH around 8 or 9am they should be rolling past my house (nearly past) around noon. What if I have a few grills set up in the back yard and have lunch waiting for the whole group? After all, man (and woman) can not live on rotary alone. Plus I would love a picture of 20+ rotary cars lined up in the back yard in front of the pond.

Positives are a free meal and a chance to stretch your legs. Negatives are a 20 minute detour and time not driving the car you are all addicted to.

Just a random thought on a snowy friday night, but I'm serious about the offer.

Did someone say free lunch? My ears were burning.

Even with out the lunch that sounds like a good time & place for a break.

Can it even be called a 'detour' when the trip really only has destinations b/c the roads have to go somewhere?

I might have some good news.. but unsure at the moment. Was told not to post about it but I'm doing this as a self reminder more or less. hehe.. oh gotta keep the suspence in this thread going. haha..

Oh and another thing, who lives near the Vt area or the NH one? The new gf said she is interested in going but hates (as she put it "I'm not a morning person!")getting up early and leaving from MA I'd be leaving around 5am or so to make it there by 8 or 9 right? If someone had a room or even a cheap motel idea I'd be willing to hear it

Free lunch and a photo shoot sound great!

Also, the covered parking at the Hilton seems too good to pass up, even for an extra $40. I envision at least 25 of us outside spraying Quick Detailer at 7AM!

Found it.

DRKSYDE, please PM me and I'll send you a check for the hotel deposit.

I voted Hilton (if that ends up being an issue).

I don't want to throw too many wrinkles in the trip, and I'm not suggesting we stop anywhere, but here are a few sights along the way that some folks might want to research for future reference.

There is a new natural history (of the Adirondacks) museum in Tupper Lake - it combines nature trails and outdoor exhibits with a large building full of hands-on exhibits, live animals, and demonstrations. Great for the kids and informative for adults too.

There is an interpretive center (similar to the natural history museum) just north of Tupper Lake in Paul Smiths. I surveyed the land as part of a college class when they were building it back in 1986. They have a pretty cool slide show on the 4 seasons in the Adirondacks. Also great for kids and informative for adults.

There is the official Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake (just north of Indian Lake) that has interesting facts and aritfacts about the Adirondacks (not to mention a Killer view of Blue Mountain Lake).

There is High Falls Gorge (a short nature walk along a stream with a pretty cool waterfall) a few minutes South of Lake Placid (near Whitface Mountain).

There are several others depending on the final route chosen, but one thing is for sure - the roads are twisty everywhere.

Is there any schedule thought of yet? I know we're all pretty much coming from all corners of NE or farther (like me) and I'd like to make sure everyone can join the group with little hassle as possible.

If that can help, I could get some Excel file going on with all people's departure place and departure time, possible meetup point and time and try to work out some kind of schedule that fits everyone for the first day.

Let me know

Jeff and I will be staying in Lake George for the night and make sure we meet up with you guys at the right times, or catch up at some point. This seems like the most likely scenerio for us, if something changes I'll get in on the hotel deal.

KrysyGT, My house is only 20-25 minutes Southwest from Lake George, so if everyone is coming here for lunch you could join us then.

After the plans and route are confirmed I will give directions to my house to anyone that needs them.

I'm comin' from the Philly area for anyone else around me that may be going. Sounds like I could be catching up with everyone else at RX Eight 7's for lunch.

Mmmmmm......lunch.....

I think that all those things sound great! The only thing I worry about is TIME. The first day will be packed with mileage and meeting up with people.

so that i know exactly how it will work. are we calling in and making reservations as we would with a wedding party (or any other large blocks)? i'm guessing that's what the deposit was going to cover so that Drk wouldn't have to cover the total cost of deposit but want to know exactly when i need to make a reservation.

FYI, I booked a room at Lake Placid Summit Hotel via Travelocity for $65 + tax (that price is for 2 adults). If anyone knows of disadvantages to doing it that way, please speak up!

Also, a buddy of mine suggested that we check out Whiteface mountain Memorial highway. It's only 10 miles north of Lake Placid and costs $9 per car (but we might qualify for a group discount). May 19 is the first day it's open... IMO, it'd seem like a waste not to take our group up there since we'll be so close.

DRKSYDE, I was not suggesting we do any of the things I listed, just shamelessly promoting the area so folks might think of coming back for a week or a weekend getaway.

I agree 100% there will not be time on Saturday for extended stops (except Lunch at my place of course).

First, Second, and Third priority in my book are 1. Have Fun 2. Drive RX-cars (refer to 1.), and 3. Stay out of jail.

Gonna be attempting to get my gf to nail down for sure the fact she's going by the end of the week. Might ask my mom to babysit 'cause I know having someone to watch her kids all weekend will be big bucks and I'd feel bad.

This weekend going to *gasp*.. have her drive my car if its nice out to let her feel it out (she's never driven a car like ours) cause I want her to be comfortable enough to hang out with all of us on the tight corners and twisties. So far only problem is $$$, boss is cutting my hours so trying to save and have a social life (a small one sadly). Thankfully I have a self proclaimed suga-momma so hopefully it wont be that bad hehe.

Just to elaborate on my Memorial Highway post, it's only a suggestion. Also, I was thinking that if we did it, it'd be on Sunday after breakfast. Here's a topo map showing the road; it goes to the top of Whiteface Mtn.... it should offer some awesome views if the weather cooperates.

It is an awesome road (though not very long). My buddy had a summer job working at the weather station at the top of the mountain (end of the road) during college. He tied one on and tried to drive the state pickup truck down the road to get more beer - he didn't make it. More precisely, he made it but the truck didn't. It was funny because he didn't get hurt (just lost his summer job), but it could have been very ugly.

Moral of the story: it is an awesome road with excellent views. The only problem is they watch the speed limits pretty close there and with 20+ sports cars all showing up at the same time we will probably get extra special treatment. Still a nice drive if the weather is good.

FYI, I plotted one possible route on google maps as far Bethel, VT. It's based on the description and map from the 1st page of the thread + it goes via Whiteface, but obviously we don't have to do that... I just tossed that part in :-)

Edit: BTW, anyone can tweak the route, create a new link, and post the updated version back here. I was lazy and entered in town names... if you zoom in, you'll see that in some cases, that takes the route slightly off the logical path (this can be fixed by replacing the towns with specific addresses for the destination points).

Also, for anyone not familiar with google maps: be sure to check out the satellite and hybrid views.

Deposits

Ok,

So my idea with the deposits was to try and get a group rate for people, however it seems as though some of you are able to get great rates with these hotels on your own.

Maybe we don't need to do this? I apologize for any confusion. I am new to this. I was just trying to make things easy for everyone.

So if people are ok with booking their own rooms that is GREAT! If you have already sent me a deposit then I can help in booking them OR I can just refund them to you/tear up the checks...

Please let me know.

Whiteface mountain sounds cool! If we have enough time that would be great.
