Hey folks, is there still lodging left? I've been a bit of a slacker but I want in too! I was there last spring run too in NH coming up from Stamford, CT. What's the place everyone is staying at overnight?

I just booked my room at the Hilton last night. There shouldn't be a problem with all the hotels in the area.

That's fine. I had collected a bunch initially and then sent them to Mendossa anyway. So as long as info is sent to one of us everything will make it to Mendossa list.

So are you working a 2nd/graveyard shift Friday night?

There's a bunch of hotels in Lake Placid, NY, is that the area where everyone is staying? Sorry I didn't do my 44-page thread homework.

I've been working on an itinerary for Sunday; I'll post it soon (I wanted to run it by Rx Eight 7s first)

However, here's another question: Anyone have a spare tire that they'd be willing to let another driver use? Hopefully this wont be needed, but with this many cars it'd be nice to know if there are one or two just in case someone gets a flat that the repair kit wont fix.

So far most are at LP Summit Hotel, Hilton, or Swiss.

== DRAFT ITINERARY FOR SUNDAY ==

I put this together a few days ago (I haven't done anything for Saturday as I'm not at all familiar with that portion of the route).

08:00 Meet in Lake Placid (fuel, restroom)
08:15 Group finishes fueling and gets on road
09:00 Arrive at Whiteface (restroom)
09:45 Leave Whiteface
10:45 Arrive at Ausable Chasm (restroom?)
11:30 Leave Ausable Chasm
11:45 Arrive at Little Italy Pizzeria -see note below (restroom, lunch)
01:00 Leave Little Italy's
02:00 Arrive Crown Point State Park (restroom?)
02:45 Leave Crown Point State Park
04:15 Arrive at Texas Falls via Lincoln Gap (restroom)
05:00 Leave Texas Falls
05:45 (optional fuel/restroom stop in Royalton, VT)
06:15 Arrive Lebanon, NH (fuel, restroom, dinner)
07:30 Leave Lebanon, NH
08:30 Arrive Brattleboro, VT

A friend of mine mentioned that Little Italy Pizzeria has good food, reasonable prices, and a big room with enough seating for 30+ (it's on the way right near Ausable Chasm):
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...2&iwloc=A&om=1

I called there Friday and talked to the owner; he says they could reserve the room and he'd give a group rate (they normally aren't open until 4:00 PM on Sunday, but he said he'll open up early for a big group like ours).

I'm looking for some feedback:
  1. Any objections to that Pizza place?
  2. Do the hotels include a continental breakfast? If so, I figured we'd each do breakfast before meeting up Sunday morning.
  3. Are the stop times reasonable? (45 min at Whiteface, Ausable Chasm, Crown Pt, Texas Falls, 75 min for lunch/dinner) Obviously, a portion of the group might need to skip dinner so as to get back on the road early.
  4. Are the travel times reasonable? (seems conservative to me, but I don't know all the roads up there too well)
  5. I'm assuming Ausable Chasm and Crown Point State Park have restrooms, but I could be wrong... anyone know for sure?
  6. Should we get on the road a little earlier than that?
For reference, here's the route map again:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...6&t=h&z=8&om=1

Also, some things to consider (mentioned earlier in thread, but summarized again here):
  1. FRS/GMRS radios that support subcodes would come in handy (they're cheap $15-$20).
  2. Having at least a few cars with Nav systems would also come in handy (can we add that to the spreadsheet?) I have one.
  3. Should we send out an email of the spreadsheet, maps, and iterneraries later this week? (when they're finalized)

I got a room for Friday night in Brattleboro (for me + my roommate). Whoever else is staying over Friday night in the area, LMK, we can grab drinks that night.

I would not get on the road any earlier. Some people, like me, are going to have a hard enough time sticking to the 8am meeting time.

Conservative estimates for road segment values are OK, because we'll probably get delayed somewhere and it's nice to have slack in the schedule.

I will most likely have to cut my Sunday short. My wife leaves for Greece on Monday and I told her I would spend some time with her on Sunday. So I will try to make it home around dinner time.

About same here... I'll be moving up north after Crown Point so that I can get back in Montreal around supper time.

FYI folks I'll be posting a summary of the Excel sheet soon, as well as emailing the contact info, so we have some kind of final word on who's there or not, when we meet, etc. With that and a map, we should be all set.

Wow, the site was down all weekend! I finaly just read the PM DRKSYDE sent me... and oddly enough a really old one that I had no idea was there from him as well! Wonder if it appeared during the upgrade?

I just booked my room in the Summit. As that looks to be where most everyone is staying.

There is still lots of space, 50 rooms or so I was told... for those of you lost in all the threads as I was (haven't been on here in way to long)... the address and info for the hotel is:

Lake Placid Summit Hotel
2375 Saranac Avenue
Lake Placid, NY 12946
Phone: (518) 523-2587 or (800) 790-8452
Fax: (518) 523-0368

I know people have booked a couple of other places as well, but I'm sure the more we can get in one place the more fun it will be. My rate was $79 and though she said the rate would go up as the rooms get booked, she said if you mention your with the group then she will try to honor the rate.

Who knows, maybe a few of the people in other places should see if they can rebook? Especially as it appears there is space?

Hey Tigger,

Nice to see you can make it. I didn't see anything about the Miata run in VT. did it happen?

Have not heard much about the run, I think this maybe a down year due to a number of different happenings. I suspect it will be backup next year though!

I'm a little glad it did not happen as it meant I could make this run this year! Though I'm looking forward to going on it next year when it is backup. Maybe with a little cordination we can pull these two runs together!

I fully second these ever so wise words... in fact 10am sounds early to me! I plan to be enjoying the bar with anyone else who's bed time is not 8pm

I do hope the hotel has a bar! I better check that one!

== SUNDAY ITINERARY DRAFT V2 ==

A friend of mine mentioned to me that the Whiteface Rd doesn't actually go to the top. I looked at a topo map, and it appears to be a decent climb from the road to the peak (given everything else we'll be doing that day, it might be a bit much). There is an elevator from the lot up, but it sounds like that'll take too much time too:

http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=...25&size=l&s=50

So I'm thinking Whiteface can get axed altogether and we can make the Sunday start time a little later (some seem keen on that anyway). If any of the group still want to go up Whiteface, they could get up earlier, go up there, and then meet the rest of the group later.

09:30 Meet in Lake Placid (fuel, restroom)
09:45 Group finishes fueling and gets on road
10:45 Arrive at Ausable Chasm (restroom?)
11:30 Leave Ausable Chasm
11:45 Arrive at Little Italy Pizzeria -see note below (restroom, lunch)
01:00 Leave Little Italy's
02:00 Arrive Crown Point State Park (restroom?)
02:45 Leave Crown Point State Park
04:15 Arrive at Texas Falls via Lincoln Gap (restroom)
05:00 Leave Texas Falls
05:45 (optional fuel/restroom stop in Royalton, VT)
06:15 Arrive Lebanon, NH (fuel, restroom, dinner)
07:30 Leave Lebanon, NH
08:30 Arrive Brattleboro, VT

Another option would be to push up the entire schedule so that we finish earlier (though I think we'll be able to stay ahead of schedule). We could also start later, but I think the day will end too late.

Again, any feedback is welcome.

I think that looks pretty good - not a morning person, so I like the 9.30 start. I'll likely start towards home after Texas Falls. Not 100% sure yet, but that was my original plan. So for members who want to get on their way home, the Texas Falls stop (or Lebanon) provide a decent place to duck out early anyway.
