Outback sounds good to me.

Well - got back in to town last night and went to start the car this morning and. . . crank crank crank.... crank crank crank.... no spudder, no cough, nothing. Then battery died. Called AAA for a jump thinking it just sat for a few days and needs some more juice. Nope.

I walked my *** up to autozone where I purchased a Optima Yellow Top - it was on my list of things I needed anyway. Further, walking a mile carrying a car battery is sucky.

So, I've done the deflood procedure 3 times now and gotten a spudder, but not turn over yet. doh! I think I've confirmed its flooded from sniffing my own exhaust pipes after cranking (I normally frown upon this)

There is a correlation to my car troubles though... every time I think about or start to make an appt. with Doc, the 8 has a bunch of problems.

I'll keep you posted. If I can't take care of it, I already called the resident RX8 mechanic to come down and help me out after work. Seeing as how I didn't make it to work today. . .

I think its official, this will be my first, last, and only winter with the 8.

I was reading on another post that someone lost compression on their engine and got a new one under warranty. So you are going to get rid of your RX? I just got mine and came in to say hello. I bought an 05 shinka that seems like it was bought in Pitts and was owned in Canton. If you know the car and have a horror story about it please feel free to keep it to yourself as I am enjoying it very much! :D Well hello to you all and I am sorry to hear about your RX troubles. PS: If you decide to install a sticky pan heater let me know I would like to come and see how it is done and try and help. Happy driving!

Welcome to the clan. Nobody around here has sold an 8 recently that we are aware of...but then again we have lost contact with "Banned" and he did have a Shinka. I'd tell you his real name but I can't remember it ever since that trip to the Lizard. Last we heard though his car was running great. Billy Joe Bob Franky Steve (Vyndictive Steve) is the one that has all the problems and he is still fighting with the SOB as you can see. Come hang out with us on the 16th at the Outback in Macedonia at 271 Rt 8 and Rt 82. Only catch is you aren't allowed to bring your 8...as we will get depressed and homicidal. :P

I looked at buying a shinka from a guy in Pittsburgh. Wonder if it was the same one? The car was in awesome shape, but he kept dicking me around when I went to get it. I don't know what happened to it after that.

Which color do you have? I was in LOVE with the copper red.

Like DB said, come to dinner and meet us.

DB- Banned was Matt.

Welcome to the club Vez. I believe Mat is still floating around the forums so I doubt it's his. Only one other regular has a Shinka and there's no way he'd sell it.

If you have a garage you won't need an oil pan heater. Mostly you only see folks in Canada or Minnesota messing around with those. Akron really doesn't get cold enough to mess with the car in a garage. Outside on the other hand...

And just a quick heads up but if you have random questions make sure you search before asking the general forum. Most of the questions you have are found pretty quickly. If you are in a hurry, in a panic, or just can't find the answer ask in this thread first. We're a lot easier going then the general forums.

So where are you from in Akron? I grew up on the west side (Bath). Also noticed in your Hello RX8Club post that you said something about NW Ohioans. Typo or spend a lot of time in Toledo?

He got a Black Cherry so assuming Mat is still around (and he was Akron not Canton so I'm sure he is) he'll be our third BC.

Lol well it is a typo because I am from FL originally. Ok so the car is BC has 30k on it and it seems like somone owned that and really cared about it. The car looked like it had a few minor dings and the carfax report shows dmg to the right rear quarter where I can see overspray. It is very solid mechanically. I do have a garage and need to clean out a spot for it. I wish my basement would stay more dry or I would just move everything down there. My wife and I would be glad to come out on the 16th. We will be in attendance with our Mazda Pebble Ash 6s, no slitting wrists yet please (as long as we are still welcome with our 2y/o). I was not allowed to type in the forums for the first 24 hours I was registered so I looked around and understand what you mean about the search function. These guys can be ruthless and sometimes talk without reading. I was looking at some people's 60' times and people flew off the handle thinking it was 60mph times! Looking forward to our first spring time cruise.

Nice to see someone with some previous rotary experience too. That'll cut your questions down by half but the Renny and the 8 are a little different then the 7's 13b's. No idea how much research you've done into it but you'll figure it out soon enough.

I won't be there on the 16th but I'm sure I'll see you around.

We can't wait for our first spring time cruise either. :P We are happy to have wives and gf's come join us at meets...heck doc even brings his pit crew along to most meets. We try and watch the content around them...but we keep no promises. So Doc...I think that is 7.5 for the 16th so far. Now back to the Guitar Hero for me.

No it is ok to cuss aournd the wife she can cuss and spit as well as any sailor. I just want to bring my kid as we dont have any friends here yet and as a result no babysitters. We moved up here 1.5 years ago and I dont see many people in my line of work and my wife works with a bunch of stuffy accountants.

Devil I see that you have a taste for the electronica. I am a huge fan. Do you like Deadmau5- Hi Friend? You may like Morgan Page- Longest road Ft. Lisi.

I have 105 tracks by Deadmau5 and I do not have a song containing "Hi Friend" in the title. I'll see if my buddy that I got Deadmau5 from has some Morgan Page.

We don't worry about the wives...if they can't deal with it they don't have to come. Kids on the other hand we try and be nice around. Don't need Doc's pit crew cussin like a sailor before they are old enough to enlist. :P

Since you brought it up...what do you do for a living? I do IT Incident Management for "A Major Auto Insurer"...doc is a dentist...Ryan does IT things...Steve does HR things...Jon designs **** I think...Tom is a lawyer. Come to think of it we are a real rag tag bunch of wackos.

Cool I work outdoors repairing the base stations for a wireless company. They are the big boxes at the bottom of a cell tower or on the tops of buildings. I have a friend that is a VP in network architecture at a "A Major Auto Insurer". His name is George Morrison. I miss doing IT stuff but with my 5 years of network engineering in the service I never bothered to get any certs. I like my job currently as it is rather secure! Well cool looking forward to meeting you all. Oh and do any of you have a reference for a good body shop? I want to see what it will cost to get the hood repainted as there is a nice chunk taken out of it. I am hoping it is cheaper to get a CF hood as black on black cherry looks soooo nice. Off to work I go talk to you all later.

Sounds like cool stuff. Can you fix the cell towers out by my parents...they suck. We do have a George Morrison here...but I've never talked to him and we don't do VPs. *shrug*

When my car got smashed up I took it someplace owned by a coworkers father. They sucked on setting expectations on when it would get done...but love the work they did. Going to be kind of far for you though as they are up here in Richmond.

Welcome to the club VezRX.
Like others here have mentioned, if you have any questions and can't find it through searching, ask it here first... we tend to be a little nicer.

I was never clear on what I do because there is no easy way to explain it in a couple sentences to someone who has never worked surface mount.
I'm an engineering technician for Rockwell Automation (formally Allen Bradly).
We produce over 1000 different circuit boards for various tasks such as PLC and SLC communication modules, PanelViews and other touch panel monitors, InView Message Displays, and other I/O devices that I won't bore you with.

These circuit boards are built using Universal SMT (surface mount technology) machines.
Mainly Universal Genesis, AdVantis, and 4797 HSP (link below gives you a visual of the machines I work on):
http://www3.uic.com/wcms/WCMS2.nsf/i...oducts_19.html

MY job throughout all this is to keep the SMT machines running when they don't perform like they should.
If a component within the machine breaks, I need to tear it apart to replace it.
If the machine doesn't recognize the part being picked correctly (resistors, capacitors, ICs, transistors, etc), I need to modify the database.
If the machine doesn't place the part correctly I need to find out why and correct it.

So I don't really "design" the circuit boards, I just fix what the designers mess up.

Yeah... everytime I tell people I repair SMT machines, they look at me like I'm from another planet.
I usually have to go into "baby talk" mode and saying something like, "You know the little circuit boards in your cellphone, or when you buy a video card for your computer... all the little components you see on those boards are placed by an SMT machine(s). I have to repair those when they don't work!"

No, I won't get rid of the 8... and I don't have a horror story like I got my engine replaced and then it blew up on the highway and caught fire (Rotary Rasp)
However, I think like most of the club here, the 8 will not be my winter car after this year.
If you're driving yours now... want some snow tires and rims for next year?

In fact, this is the first time the 8 has ever "stranded" me. But, I was at home so I didn't mind that much. I did get to play a bunch of tecmo super bowl for NES.

Welcome to the club - CF hood huh? . . . you've got a long way to go if you want to beat me in the useless cosmetic mods category.

oh, and woke up this morning and the car still would not start... so my solution of letting it sit over night did not work.

I am getting a flashing CEL when cranking, so does this mean flooded or no spark? It stinks of gas still, so I'm assuming flooded. But I also only have about 1/8 of a tank and my gas light is on... which doesn't make sense, but could I be out of gas? I really don't think so. . . but perhaps some starting fluid is in order while I have the maintenance ports open.

I swear, this car is like parenting a teenager at times. Great when they're in a good mood, but can be a royal pain in the *** when they're all emo sitting in their rooms cutting themselves while listening to the cure.

At least your car doesn't stall anymore (when it does start)

You could always go with what I use..."I fix ****." It always gets the "Oh cool" response I need to move on...and if they go "What do you fix" I can drag out a nice long answer so they come back to "So you fix **** eh?".

You made a comment about taking apart your intake just so you could say that you took it apart and learned stuff about it. If you take stuff apart all day long I can see why you would do that. Also it explains the no fear of "Take this this this and this off and we will go from there."
