John: Well, other than the eye sore, I don't mind the heater being messed up. Its either on full heat, or full cool, which is normally fine, but I don't like having a piece of paper jammed in there to keep the heat on.
And I didn't install the gauges, but I'm sure unhooking them is easier than installing them.

Also... i just looked on the parts for sale thread... 90 bucks for an OEM shift ****. . . wow.

And just as an update... the sales rep from wooster sent me an email wondering what was wrong with my car (from the SSV valve)... I'm tempted to mess with him.

Jon - I'm not sure on newer V-dubs, but with the key in the door, if you hold the lock in either the lock or unlock position, all of the windows and roof with either open or close depending on unlock or lock position. Not on the remote.

Yes. So if I lock my doors I want both windows to go up and the sunroof to close. Both of which are in the DIY...just need to wire it up.

I agree with you. I just don't know what we would be getting into or the impact of disconnecting them so I'll leave that on you.

Yea...the guy is ******* nuts. I didn't want to **** in his thread but with asking that much I owe it to anyone that would look at it to know that they can do better.

I would tell him that a $30 can of Zoom Zoom cleaner took care of the problem along with some shop rags to clean up some oil. Be honest with him and let him know that his price for your $35 repair, even with labor, is unacceptable and that you are spreading the word at how shady they are. I would also CC the service manager and the owner who's name escapes me. You can even explain to them that this is our clubs second trip down there and that after my 4 hour oil change and your experience we won't be going back.

Wow sounds like I really missed some drama. I heard your oil stuck your SSV valve shut. Was this a dealerships doing? John the same dealer took 4 hours to do an oil change? SHEESH.

I looked into a catch can on summitracing.com and was unable to find a can that was less than $80 that had an inlet and outlet as well as bracket and hoses. I just looked in one place though.

Yea...I went there for some scheduled maint. I had an oil change and tire rotation done. They told me that they didn't know what a shock sensor was and that Mazda didn't sell anything named such a way so they couldn't test it. Then I pulled up MazdaUSA on my laptop using their wireless and showed them that I could order a car with one so they better find it. They stated it wasn't installed and to take my car back to where I bought it. I also had an issue where my AC would randomly come on after cycling through the vent positions. They stated that this is normal and that I would need to just push the AC button to shut it off. And I also asked them if something was wrong with my LCD Display because I couldn't see the fan speed in the display as others with RX8s could. They told me that no RX8 could do that and that if someone told me that they were lieing and if I had pictures of it they were photoshopped or not of an 8. However after leaving there my Cruise Control now stays on even after I shut my car off. (So if I took a drive down to Akron and had it on. Shut my car off. It would be on when I left waiting for me to resume. Really weird and somewhat annoying.)

I went looking through Summit Racing today. I found a Universal can for $27. Jon, since Im not really interested in the oil actually getting back into the engine do I really need something with return hoses? Or can I just buy one and make sure that I make sure it is empty at every oil change?

Maybe if you did a single hose to a catch can and capped off the port on the intake you can get away without having a return hose. I dont know if that would set of a CEL. Worth a shot. May I have the link the the universal one please? Thanks

Edit: I do remember talking to Jon yesterday about not needing to install the catch can below the level of the overflow opening because you got a vaccum from the return hose being connected to the intake. Maybe if you wanted to do one house you could find a place to mount it below the overflow port.

Noel - If you cap it it can't throw a CEL...it is just an overflow hose. I'll go look for it again though...one sec. Until then...enjoy this Shinka with Carbon Fiber.

That looks nice. The catch can does as well. Comes with mounting hardware to boot.

John,
That catch can from Summit has a breather built into it.
No need to go back to the intake.
Just cap the intake inlet with a vacuum cap.

Not really a vacuum... must of misunderstood.
This breather is to vent vapor into the engine.
You can't just cap off the port going into the oil fill neck (which would create a vacuum).
Think of when you sip a liquid through a straw and then plug the top with your finger... it creates a vacuum and the liquid doesn't fall , but there is also no room to add volume either (which is why you can't just cap it).
Now remove your finger and the liquid falls because pressure is now equal (which is why you need a breather or have it go back into the intake inlet).

posted too slow.

Would the liquid then settle at the lowest point when the finger is removed? That is why I think Ryan asked if it should be installed below the port and makes me wonder if it shoulld be if someone is using a breather can. What do you think in this case?

Noel - You did miss some drama... basically, stay away from Mazda Wooster if you need to take your car in.

John - I'll have to check out that rewire then... If you could remember the name of the owner, I would love to tell him this story or even the regional Mazda dealer person....

I think you're right and I'll tell him what we did and that this was a common problem on the 04s and designed in 2006 I think. I'm sure if I felt like it I could find the TSB on this problem to send with it...

In other news...
I purchased this off ebay today... seems small enough, and I like that its welded with the longer ports. Its a little more than needed, but whatever.
Question, they claim its OBX, which I know makes decent stuff, but I went on their website and they don't sell this product... thoughts?

Ok so the car is running fine now. Warming as we speak. Rear pads are swapped, oil temp/pressure adapter is on under a new filter, oil is changed tho I stuck with 5w30 rather than 5w40.

Still contemplating the gauge work. Oh and I put the sensors on the adapter and had it screwed in when I decided to look at the pressure sensor on the adapter to see whether or not it was 'closed'. It looked like it might need the 'plug' at the end of the wires that go all the way to the gauge. Pretty sure it did need it so I plugged that in and zip tied the rest of the wiring against a random hose.

Anyone know if I woulda not had pressure had I started her up w/o running that wire? Probably a redundant question.

Interesting looking catch can Steve.
I like how they just plumbed a couple push-in fittings with a clear tube to see the oil level.

Not quite sure what you are talking about Ryan...
You are talking about plugs and pressure, but then you also mention "wires" which is usually referenced with electrical.
So your question, "Anyone know if I woulda not had pressure had I started her up w/o running that wire" is a little confusing to me.

KK thanks for the info Jon.

Nice Ryan, glad it started up!

Ty for the heads up Steve, are they a Park Mazda member? Park on Arlington is closest to me.

Park Mazda of Wooster is not associated with Park Mazda on Arlington in any way.

There are a number of oil catch cans on Ebay costing as little as $20 on Ebay. Not sure what the difference is. Anybody know the difference?

This one seems pretty good. I am not sure how they want you to mount it from the pictures though. You can get a bright red one for 4 dollars less. I really liked the way Jon mounted Ryan's. This one looks as if you would have to put new holes into a surface with the hardware provided.

Doc - I looked at those, and I just wouldn't trust the fitting quality - I just don't think 20 bucks is enough for a quality product... but the one I bought may not be much better. Plus 750mL capacity is pretty large to have under the hood in my opinion... but, I may have shot that much oil back into my intake so I shouldn't talk. Guess we'll find out!

Jon - When you moving this weekend? What are you estimates for vehicle needs?

John - I didn't know Park Mazda Arlington wasn't affiliated with Park Wooster... I just assumed they were I guess...
Any idea on how to get in touch with the owner of such a fine establishment? Maybe I'll visit the C6C club (which I haven't been to in months) and ask Marlon.

Well... Saturday appears to be the big move.
I'll let everyone know what time when I know for sure.

I think we are pretty good far as vehicles.
I'm going to reserve a U-Haul in the morning.

Has anyone ever contacted or met user: mazdaverx7 from Vermillion? I've seen him post a few times and he also owns a fleet of rx7s. Maybe we should send him a PM to see if he wants to make the trip out some time. Its about an hour for him I'm guessing.

Ryan - Did you flush/change you coolant also? What brand did you use?

I told him to stop in like a week or two ago. It is kind of far for him to hang out with us...but I figured he would rather talk with us than the people from that state up north. *shrug* oh well.

Nope. That's put off until next weekend. And I'll probably bleed my brake fluid at the track when I'm putting on my tires.

Coolant isn't anything special. Probably just get Prestone 50/50 and some Watter Wetter. I was gonna do it this weekend when I cut the hose for the water temp adapter but since my adapter didn't fit that's wasn't really necessary.

EDIT: Y3K
