I helped dig out some kid in what looked like a galaxy grey automatic last night in front of Ray's in kent.... anyone in here taking claim? He said he was running Blizzaks but damn dude< theres @ feet of snow on the ground. I didn't get a chance to tell him turn the car off and reset the DSC and traction. I bet he had a fun ride home from the bar!

No... I don't think anyone here has an auto...

I drove all around Akron today on my Blizzaks and did fine... but, I'm an amazing driver.

Also "the strap looks tight enough."

Mine is in the garage. Started it and let it idle while I shoveled out our 6.

Do your own oil changes...

Preface - I wrote this post to vent, so to avoid reading all of it. Midas, the people that probably over filled my oil torqued the oil filter on there tight enough where I wasn't able to get it off at all... so, change your own oil to ensure crap like this is done properly.

So, pretty much everyone on here knows about my SSV valve being stuck by overfilling the engine oil and having it blow back into the intake.
--I assume this was caused at the last oil change overfilling my car. Failure to check proper level by me. So the root cause of that was someone overfilling the oil.

After helping Jon move I was all fired up to go change my oil. My level was low and it had been about 4500 miles since my last change. Plus with the overfilling nonsense, the zoom zoom cleaner, etc. I just thought it wise to put fresh oil in.

This project was going smoother than most for me. I took the passenger side wheel off to give me more room. (which came off no problem) I inspected didn't drop the drain plug into the oil catcher or anything!

So I let it finish draining and then got my new oil filter ready (midas put a "fram" filter on... no welded bolt to the top like a K&N.) So I started to work on the filter... should have been hand tight. Plus the Racing beat oil pressure adapter fits under the filter, so it makes a tight fit even tighter. I couldn't budge this frickin' thing. I tried tapping on it with a screw driver, loosen the threads; nope.

Basically, I was ready to take off the upper intake like we did a few weeks ago, but I didn't have a wiggle socket thing (the kind that pivots) So... just put the oil in, made sure it was passing through the filter ok, and I'm going to take it in today to have the caliper float pin loosened and to have them get the filter off.

See how it works? that torqued it down so much that I have to take it back... damn.

Steve,

Are you sure I didn't tighten that for them?

Once I made the decision to take it back to them and have them deal with it... yes. I did make sure it was tightened all the way... so, the oil filter never moved during this whole ordeal.

It didn't shatter though. I called over there and they agreed to do the filter for free and charge me 20 bucks to replace the caliper float pin. 20 bucks vs a few hours of head aches... I enjoy working on the car (when all the bolts are easy, I have all the right tools. And I don't drop anything.)

Doc:
Did you decide on a catch can?
If not... you need to check this one out... Perfect for racing applianc, err, applications:

Doc...I did pick up that catch can over at Summit the other day. Reading more up on the TSB though I probably won't need it afterall. I will go and take a look at my car before Friday and if I don't need it I will bring it along. It was like $27 total and seemed pretty nice. Although...it is a lot bigger than I had though and I have no idea where I would mount it. Sorry Jon...completely forgot to look before we went and bought it.

I just posted the question at NORA. I can't install the can, or I have to disconnect it for any major events. It's not BS legal. So it's just not worth it.

I understand. They can't be making exceptions for all the little stuff that comes out.

So they would rather have you disconnect the hose and dump oil on the course than have a catch can. Interesting.

Wut? You get black flagged if you're leaking fluid.

There's no 'hose to ground' here. If there is overflow it's vented into the intake and most of it will get cooked as it blows through the system. The problem is that it can produce a lot of smoke and smell in addition to causing buildup in elbows like where the SSV sits.

Doc - you could just follow the TSB and re-route the oil blow by hose from the intake down into the maintenance ports like on the new models... should still be legal, and if it isn't, very very hard to detect because it is "stock" on later models of the car.

I got my catch can in the mail today. much smaller than 750ml capacity. Its smaller than a can a pop. I'll take pics when I do the install.

Here is the TSB (actually taken from a post from John in a reply about installing a breather to prevent foamy dipsticks)

And, here is a link to the thread showing installed catch can pics... though, not very helpful.

At least you won't have to empty it until you're ready to get rid of the car !

Interesting. Makes me think I should consider moving my catch can next to the washer fluid and then run the overflow to the maint. valve. Probably not worth the extra effort but certainly something to keep in mind.

Woah... Now I can choose a state icon for my message? But no Ohio? Weird.

no ohio... just OH.... weird indeed.

I would keep it in the catch can... you don't want that crap back into your intake. Plus its rumored you have better throttle response by keeping the intake system as closed as you can... unable to verify.

Midas charges 31 dollars to replace both caliper float pins and they did the filter for free.... but I'm sure they tightened it down too tight again. . .

Wildwood Orange soda? what the hell is that?

And are you going to run the bottom hose anywhere or just keep that valve closed?

it is a $0.59 soda at Giant Eagle.

I went and looked at my car before I came back to the office. I do not need the overflow bottle. So if anyone wants it you can have it at cost. Otherwise I will just be taking it back to Summit.
