**** son! Throw some blizzaks on your 8 and you can drive through up until you start scraping the bottom on built up ice (so around 5 inches of hard packed snow)

I drive mine up to Berea from Canton twice a week for class battling 77, route 18, and 71. The stability control and traction control in this car are awesome.

That said - next winter I do not want to drive it in the winter. I think I will spend until July cleaning the car fully.

I do see both sides... but you have an '04 like me - our cars are going to drop in value if they're in the garage or out in the salt and snow... so you might as well drive it.

But many want to keep the car for a long time, so depreciation isn't an issue at all, and salt hurts the life of the car...

Both sides are valid.

Another topic - I was driving home today thinking about installing my footwell lights when it occured to me. I have only ridden in 2 rx8s. Mine, and the one I test drove at park wooster.
Do you think at one of the meets in the summer we can take a spin in other 8s? I mean, hear different exhausts from inside the cabin, feel the difference in pull of an AP tuning... etc. I'm not saying drive, but just take a spin.

Just an idea.

No Steve there are no ride-a-longs at meets. It would cut into drinking time.

However there are rides given at autox events and fun days at nelsons. Lots more fun.

Just poking my head in from charleston wv. Be returning to my regularly schedule postings tomorrow.

And why wasn't I invited to outback?

You sunofabitch I was just going to ask him that

And yes I agree with Ryan, ride alongs at meets cut into drinking time. That's a no no.

As for 8's in the winter, I drive mine all year around. Well, I wouldn't if my other car didn't blow it's engine, or the other one had an engine in it

Drinking time... chemical dependence is sad. You guys could learn a lot from John's example.

I guess I'll have to make it out to autocross and track days then.

Wait until April and then buy them from me.

Tire rack has a GREAT deal on brand new snow tires... but depending on your $ situation... they may be over priced for you.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...W&startIndex=0

80 bucks per tire

But, you would still need to find a set of 17in rims... so that might defeat the purpose.

It's only chemical dependence if you constantly crave and use, and without you go through the shakes and ****.

A late hello trademark! I may have to start driving mine during the winter as we lost another switch tech at my work and I may be moving into the NOC. I have gotten the clear markers in the mail and plan on putting them in this afternoon. I will try and post pics but Wont have any good angles since it is in a cramped box filled garage!

Stock rims are 18" so you would need to find 18" low profile winter tires. So it may be possible...but your best solution is 17" for the winter.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-Mic...Q5fAccessories

Would these work? $75 to ship em

EDIT: NVM still would need rims =/

I really dont know much about shopping for rims for a sports car, i did it for my jeep and i know its kinda important, cheap rims can leak your tires. Suggestions on good rims at a good price for the winter?

oh my god people they are WHEELS!!!!!

The rim is a part of the wheel.... $100 says you can't go to TireRack and get a Rim and Tire combo. Unless when you mean TireRack you are really refering to a mainstream rap video...

sheesh

But yes, 17" WHEELS will still clear the rotors and calipers, plus it will bring down the cost of the tires. Also, in the winter you want a narrower contact patch, so a WHEEL that is 7" wide as opposed to the 8" wide stock WHEELS will be better.

"Rims" are ricer tuner speak for wheel.... don't you wanna be cool?

No, those ebay tires won't fit stock 18in WHEELS

I bought my WHEELS and tires off the forum for a decent price, but I had to drive to Indy to get them... oh no, a road trip in my 8, no. . . please....

I think WHEELS and tires are the way to go. 18in low profile snow tires are expensive, probably more expensive than a 17in WHEEL and tire package.

Be nice to the new guy. Getting almost as cold in this thread as it is outside... And just as many car people call them rims as wheels but wheels are the right way to go.

Just getting tires and putting and mounting them on stock rims is fine. It'll be cheaper in the long run to get a set of 17" wheels so you don't accumulate costs over the winters. And if you can get a decent set of 17" wheels if you end up deciding to garage your 8 in future winters you can always make those track wheels.

I missed whether or not you got the car new or used from a dealer. If you did I'd go back, tell them the car drives like total crap in the winter, and see if they'll hook you up with a set of winter tires mounted on your stock rims. That'll save you a couple hundred bucks.

Oh and Sebring was ******* ****. I am having a problem with the car starting that Ray thinks might be because my ground wire isn't connected properly so I'll double check that next time I'm back in the garage. For now towing a car through Kentucky, Tenny, NC, SC, Georgia to Florida, then driving on a track for 240 miles, getting drunk pretty much every night, and then towing a car back through Florida, Georgia, SC, NC, Virginia, West Virginia, and back in Ohio is gonna keep me from posting a whole lot.

Oh and I have logs of two full sessions from the AP. If I can find a place to stow 'em I'll link to them.

Here's the logs for anyone who wants a gander:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/yggqzmjqmzm/Sebring09.zip

These were my two final sessions. I had a new instructor on both of these so I was trying to relearn all of my entry/exit points and didn't hit some of the speeds from earlier on the weekend. When you look at the amount of time spent over 100 mph on that course it tells you how crazy long 3.7 miles really is.

Now I get to spend a couple weeks trying to figure out what all that means in my effort to get a good tune by March.

I think Brian was really making fun of John and I for saying rims... not the new guy.

I agree though, if our little regional forum gets as bad as the outside world - I'm buying a civic and peacin' out.

... Glad you had fun at the track. I think I will take some people up on rides at track and autocross before I start putting money into it.

Kinda sorta :p

Not picking on the new guy at all, it just bugs me to no end for some reason when someone calls a wheel a rim

I always rant about this. If I can sway one person into refering to them correctly then I can die a happy man

If you are refering to laser tag I would actually prefer to wait until spring and go play paintball somewhere. We should plan something for a nice spring meet here, go out, shoot each other up with paintballs, then go get food afterwards.
