Sweet - keep us posted. I am monitoring Craigslist because a lot of people have these tickets and then give them away. Free parking though

Speaking of Noobies - what happened with the one kid that wanted one of use to go look at that 8 with him? Did anyone ever go see it? Jon, Ryan?

And for those of you that aren't members of the c6c...they just picked up two members that you may be interested in talking to. Eric Meyer (owner/driver) and Ron Carroll (car chief) from Meyer Motorsports are over there helping out with things like setup questions. For those of you that don't follow Koni the Meyer Motorsports #30 RX8 finished 15th in class and 32nd overall after both drivers in the top 3 for practice. This is a great opportunity for some of you to get those questions answered as to where you should go with your car. I know Brian and Ted are already asking about suspension setups for this years NORA season.

probably because the mods don't want people to think you're actually banned. Banned people's posts are still up in some threads... so they don't want you kidding about it... etc.

I'm surprised you didn't get banned for joking about being banned...

Having Carroll there is a plus but Eric has been answering questions over here for years.

I swung by Docs last night and picked up his clutch along with some random glass thing.

Finally got my water temp adapter. Once I figure out whether or not I can actually cut the piping without draining the collant first I'll put that on. Hopefully Saturday. Also gonna remove my clutch and hopefully get some progress done on my gauges. Oh and redo my ground for the coils and see if that helps out on my starting issue.

I got two spools of 16 gauge wire along with some clip adapter thingies that look like they'll make tapping into whatever wire I use for power a little easier. I think John said the ciggy lighter power supply works. Would it be better to use the light for the ashtray? That actually dims when I turn on my lights so I suppose my gauges would dim as well. Guess I can always change it out if I perform a boatload of fail.

BTW I think I convinced my instructor at Sebring that I had gauges in the pod for a few minutes. He finally moved over a little for a better look. Pretty funny.

Ryan,

Is this the event you were talking about:
http://www.morpca.org/page2/page12/page12.html

It's in August.

Nope. There's definitely an event held in Mid-Ohio memorial weekend. I just don't know which group. It's an annual event. I thought it was NORPCA but it doesn't look like they did it last year at Memorial weekend.

I'll figure it out before you get back from BFI.

Ryan -

I have to pull off my climate controls and re-solder my connections so I can take out my ghetto *** paper shim that keeps the heat on now.

In doing this, I have to remove my RB lower Gauge pod... I didn't put them in, but if you're like, you can see how whoever installed them wired them in. Mine dim with the rest of the gauges.

When are you planning on doing this work? I'm out this weekend, but I wouldn't mind helping out. That way if I ever have to remove mine I'll have a better idea how.

Jon - Still having people over to drink your be... err, watch the superbowl?

I'm gonna do the work on Saturday or Sunday. Maybe both days. Maybe just Sunday since I'm going to Arnies down in Fairlawn for the Superbowl and can just make a day of it. Assuming coolant spills are unlikely when I cut open my piping (Anyone? Buehler?) there isn't a whole lot I'm doing that'll get me dirty and its supposed to be relatively warm on Sunday. 40 degrees FTW!

As Jon found out when he paid me a visit with the coils I don't know jack about car wiring. But now I think I have almost all the tools I need so I should be able to bullshit my way through it. I even have one of those things that I touch to wires and it lights up. That seems like fun.

NASA has ~4 HPDEs at midohio over the year. They have their national track event at the end of the year so they do a lot of events there.

I enjoyed their HPDE however you can get the same kind of education as a first timer for a fair amount less. NASA events are a premum because they have a ladder system that will eventually get you a NASA race license.

And Doc between all the different clubs, NASA, SCCA, and some of the other track organizations there are two or three HPDEs at MidOhio each month. Students are what funds these events because there aren't nearly enough racers to afford the track. So basically you can pick a weekend and whatever organization is hosting the event will be extremely happy to have you. There will also be a few at Nelsons Ledges that are the exact same format but are less expensive, less populated (which means less time wasted passing/being passed), and allow you to not have to consider staying overnight or driving ~1.5 hours each night/morning. There's only a handful - like the NORPCA event in October - that are full even a few weeks before the event.

Most clubs/organizations are just now finalizing event schedules and I know Marlon is trying to track them over at C8C.

Like I said before, not really having a "superbowl party", just left it opened if anyone wanted to come over, watch the game, and help decrease the quantity of beer I have.
I currently don't have anyone coming over, but anyone is still more than welcomed to.
Just let me know.

You know what other useful device lets you know there is voltage... a voltmeter!
I light can only tell you that there is voltage, it can't tell you how much.
And stay away from the little radio shack DVM, it can't handle high loads (like our ignition coils requires your meter to read more than 2M ohms while testing the coil).

Well let us know when you're going and we'll help.

Work had to reschedule my days due to the budget cut-backs.
I now work Mon, Tue, and Thurs 6pm-6am.
So any other day I'm free to help.

alright. the more i think about it thought the more 70000 miles on the car freaks me out. im just scared my warrenty is gonna be up and then all of a sudden the motor is gonna fail on me. lately ive been thinking about getting one with less miles but without all the options.

im still gonna go check that one out and drive it. i know that they would let me take it for a test drive without having anyone there with me. when my friend was looking for his jetta they let me take an a4 out on a extended test drive. bad idea on their part.

edit: sport package just has the regular cloth interior correct?

Well you'd have 30,000 more miles of warranty on the engine....they extended the warranty to 100k just for the engine (anything else can still break)

Yes Sport has just cloth interior standard I don't think it's upgradeable either, i know my Touring has cloth, but I think it's possible to still have a touring and pay for leather. I think Sports also come with smaller wheels and no sunroofs I don't know what other differences. If your tall someone once told me that it's easier to fit in your car with a helmet on if you don't have a sunroof, don't know how true that is....(or how accurate anything else i told you is )

Touring can not have leather. Touring does come with bigger breaks, traction control, sunroof and a few others. By having a sunroof you do loose 2" off the headroom. I have always had a sunroof in my car and have always loved it so naturally when I got my 8 I had to have one. I regret it now.

yep, DB is tall! Now, if you are more my height, which is built perfectly for the RX8, you'll fit just fine

i'm 5'6"

I'd like to take it out on the track. I keep looking at options for lowering the seat and the only option is to remove foam which I don't think will help enough.

Yeah... that's something I have been worried about. I keep meaning to do a test fit with my motorcycle helmet. I have about 2-3 inches of clearance. But I'm not 6'4" either. I'm 6' on a good day.

--------------------

I wouldn't be scared of the 70k miles. In my opinion (which means nothing) I think if that engine was going to fail, it would have failed by now. However, it would be worth it to see if the dealer will do a compression test before you purchase. That way if you're losing compression now, you can still get a new engine under warranty.
I still think its a good deal. I mean, an engine rebuild from Rotary Resurrection is about 2 grand, which isn't really that bad considering what you're going to pay for the car.

-------------------
Ryan: good luck with the car this weekend. Let us know how it goes.

heh j/k

I feel for you tall guys. The 8 definitely is not built for you. I remember when i first enlisted to the Air Force, the guys at processing kept asking me if i was going to be a pilot. Good times!
