It would kinda make sense, wouldn't it? I don't pretend to fully understand the relationship between the starter/coils/plugs but I know that the coils are meant for bigger engines which I generally assume will have better starters. The weak starters in the '04s are a known issue so they may go below the expected tolerance for RX8s.

If you switch back to OEMs and it works fine then I'd bet that's the issue. I'm probably getting a new starter regardless (warrantied or not) but it's good to know it probably isn't the grounding.

I started the car to run it while I put everything back together from the Kill Switch DIY.
It took fewer cranks to get it started, but better than yesterday.
I might give it a few days and see how it works before looking further into this.

Damn...
So I've been running Windows 7, not too impressed.
There are functions/appearances that I do like.
I HATE that you can't use the classic view on the start menu anymore.
For some reason it was difficult trying to get PhotoShop CS4 "installed/running".
Anyway.....
So not seeing a performance difference between Windows7 and Vista (even my PassMark benchtest didn't show an improvement) I booted back into Vista.
Now Vista wants a freaking activation! DAMN IT!
Guess I'll have to "activate it".
I'm usually smarter than to install a beta on my main PC! Oh well....

Sorry... just venting!

I think the starter loses some power when it's cold. I normally had more problems in the morning then I had after running the car for a while but there were some exceptions. When I drove to a carwash after first getting the car started I drove for ~5 minute long enough to get to the happy-warm-engine point. Rinsed the car and then tried to start and it just wouldn't. Had to try three seperate times. That may have just been because the battery wasn't at 100% but considering it cranked for almost 5 minutes w/o flooding and with finally being able to start I'm not sure that's really what it was.

I think I'm gonna call Westside this week to talk to someone about it. I need to verify that it's covered under my warranty and that they won't give me crap for having aftermarket coils. If they do I'll put back the OEMs.

You should know better. Never install a new version of Window until there's at least an SP1 available. Sure as hell couldn't pay me enough to use a beta.

I'm still fuming over nvidia losing the clone to different resolution option in Vista.

On a lighter note... I finally got to use my shirt.woot coupon code for a free shirt.
Its been since September, but they haven't had anything good.
This one caught my eye because I love lightning.

You want me to email Charles about this? Not sure if you're in the mood to talk to him after the mailing mishaps.

What functions/appearances did you like? And as Ryan said...no M$ installs until SP1 and a beta/trial/free copy is just out of the question.

No... like I said, it started better today.
I'm going to give it a few drive cycles (once I have my clutch pedal ) and see what happens.

It really wouldn't have been an issue if...... I could prove my Vista authorization......
I've run every beta since Win '95 and usually don't have an issue with my previous installation (I also dual-boot).
Oh well.....

I liked the new task bar. If you have windows open that are similar (like different explorer windows), its only one "icon" and there were "icon stacks" showing more than one window of that style was open.
Then when you hover all the snapshots of the open windows, the snapshot you are hovering over becomes visible and the other windows fade away and you only see an outline of those other windows.
Kinda hard to explain, but it was nice and clean.

Ok. Frankly 'better' isn't acceptable for me. I want to be able to turn and go. Sitting in a parking lot and cranking for a few minutes is pretty embarrasing when I'm driving something that is generally considered a high performance automobile. One of the main reasons I got the coils was to get better starts. I never realized that the 04 starter was bad until now and I'm pretty pissed at Westside for not replacing it the last two Springs where they had to replace the plugs and battery because it wouldn't start.

I don't necessarily hold this against Charles but I would like to know if any other '04s with original starters have gotten the ingition upgrade. I am almost 100% sure that none of his test cars in Zona were running the original starter.

I'll wait until I double check my installation. I'm planning on doing it this weekend although I probably need my clutch back to really check it out. Finally got my dryer situation handled at home so I should be able to devote a good chunk of next weekend to the car's electronics.

If I can't get the coils working I'll reinstall the OEMs and plan on bringing it to Westside next month.

I'm also doing my shocks/springs the last two weekends of February when I'm housesitting. Should have the garage to myself so I can finish all my winter projects and have the car ready to freakin' zoom in April.

There was an external application that was out there that did this already.

Luckily I have a clean version of Vista as an image on my hard drive.
I just installed the image partition and deleted my Win7 partition.
Just going through all my software installations now.
Adobe CS4 suite takes so damn long because it totals 8-9GB for the whole thing AND I can't open Firefox during the installation to pass the time.
Oh well... all is good now.

All the clutches except for mine are done...

I went out to a late lunch and when I got back they were all done. They're not exactly what I had planned, but they won't break. And the price was right

I'll probably wait to do mine now until I get a 2nd vehicle so I don't have to rush rush get it in then out, etc.

Here are the pics.
Jon is coming down tomorrow to pick his up.
Doc and Ryan - want me to just give yours to him?

That's not what I wanted at all. Please give me a replacement clutch.

Just give mine to Jon unless you're gonna be cruising through Fairlawn, Brecksville, or downtown Cleveland over the next week.

How about a full refund plus 10% of my foot in your ***?

I'm passing through fairlawn around 5.15 on wednesday, and around 6.15 on thursday... I get off 77 at route 18 to head over to 71 N to go to berea for class.
If you do want to meet up then, let me know, but you have to be there early or on time... I am late to class enough as it is.

Fixed.... Jon's is first, then Doc's, then ryans, how is that?

no problem. Even though I know I'm going to put this off until I get another car OR get a long time to pull of my clutch and take care of it.

At least you know what to look for and can just inspect the clutch in the car.

Why the hell do you do that? Just keep going and get on I-80 south of 82. It'll save you at least 10 minutes. Don't tell me you do it just to save $1 of turnpike fees. Probably costs you more than $1 in gas.

I won't be anywhere near there on those days so just hand it off to Jon.

Partially.... and the traffic on 77 begins to get heavy during those times. I've had better luck fighting up 18.

Maybe I should just start going to 80....
