I'm still trying to figure out the part that I broke that engages the starter when the clutch is depressed. My 'quest' has gotten pretty funny. I took the part off (and am looking at it now) and referenced the Ford part# on it.
Guess what comes back?
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,4704
That's right. It's off a '01 Lincoln LS. I don't even know what car that is but if you click 'more info' you'll see that wonerful part (tho the gray extension piece looks a little longer and I'm wondering if that might even be why our clutch has this problem).
But wait. I hit up OnlineMazdaParts.com for the same info. He came back with part #D374664D0A So I search the entire Interwebz and low-and-behold I can't find that part number outside of their site where it's listed as a 'Fuel system - Cruise control - Clutch switch
Clutch switch, rx-8 2004 - 2007'
And it's almost the same price.
Oh and Motorcraft doesn't even recognize my VIN or have listings for Mazda. Even though I have a big-**** FORD stamp on this switch. Weird. This is the (not) last part I break.

Speaking of pizza. I was going to get some pizza tonight for those coming up. Then I remember it is lent. Anyone have issues with eating meat tonight, if so I can order up a boring cheese pizza?

Talked to Noel a little bit today. He says that he is fine and that all is well over there just super busy. He called me a little bit ago and said that he pulled up to get his echeck and was fine but when they started his car the CEL came on. He is going up to autozone to pull the code for us. I asked if he got gas recently and he said no so that is not a good start.

There are some that have had luck with checking the O2 sensor by putting a longer bung on the sensor. *shrug* Might be worth a shot.
Was gonna delete my post because Noel said he would stop by but since Brian responded. :P Talkeded to Noel again and he has a P2070, stuck open SSV. Steve, you gonna fix his this time?

I was gonna make one, but I come to find out the the 8 sends variable waves of rich and lean, and if the O2 sensor can't replicate what the computer is saying, then it tosses a CEL. Basically since the cat is gone, it just reads pig *** rich the whole time...
That kinda pissed me off. lol.
Also, in some cases you can just take the O2 out of the pipe, but leave it plugged in to the pigtail. I've done this on Focuses before and it works... I doubt that would work on the 8 though. I may try it for ***** and giggles though. All I need is a bolt to close up the bung in the midpipe.
Either way, I have become accustomed to the fact that I will need to get an Access Port and disable it that way. I can live with the little light for now.
YAY for no E-Check!! fugginwoot!!!

Nah...the "fix" was to put a spacer between the midpipe and the O2 sensor to extend how far out of the midpipe it was. By going far enough out the theory was that it would read rich/lean properly.

That's what I figured. It couldn't hurt, and I have plenty of spacers and **** laying around in the garage that are about the same size as the O2 bung. The only downside it I don't have a way to clear my codes other then disconnecting the battery, so trial and error (or success) could result in many trips to autozone to clear codes.
I really don't feel like disconnecting the battery and resetting my radio. I have too many presets in there. That would require work to put them all back in.

Yay. Just got a brand new, upgraded starter of Fleabay for 280 shipped.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=320345406943
Very nice. I was gonna go with a refurb that someone we know was gonna swing for me of the Mazda Comp site (
) for less but this feels like a better idea. With a Mazmart upgraded over 300, Westside close to 330, and OnlineMazdaParts aroudn 330 shipped this feels like a steal.
Plus it's warrantied for a year.
Next up - clutch switch. Then I'm officially done for the Winter.
Good thing Spring is only a couple weeks away...

Big thanks to Brian, Jon and Steve for coming out and doing what I just can't get myself to do. I really appreciate all the work that you guys did tonight, it means a lot. Thanks Tim for comin out and meeting the guys and hangin out, and for the extra set of helping hands. I love that exhaust note and will cherish it forever. Jon, maybe tomorrow I can swing a ride with you around the block a few times, I would like to see what the difference is in cabin noise between mine and yours. See you all in the mornin!

See you guys in a few hours at the Bomb Group. I'm off to Westside to get the oil changed.

Too... Much... Sun... AHHHH!!!! pulled car out of storage. WEEEEEE!!!!!!! Sucks though, heather's grandpa died on Friday at 11:25am. on a good note, all of his kids were actually sitting with him when he passed. He was home, comfortable and happy. he got to have conversation with everyone. had one last breakfast from Bob Evans and one last dinner (which was also his favorite as i am told) cooked by his wife. I dont think there could have been a more perfect way to leave this life than how he did.
You guys have fun up there! will catch up with you soon.
