To answer, yes it's the basic Greddy kit for right now. Yes it is a pain in the *** to get on, especially when the car is on jack stands. Management to be used is emanage at the moment, but will be upgraded to either the AP or ProTuner soonish. Also I probably won't blow my engine as I plan to keep the boost low (5-6psi) until I get the upgraded software.

The main snag that I've hit is my front o2 sensor. That damn thing welded itself into the stock header. So I probably need to get a new one.

Other notes.... a breaker bar is worth it's weight in gold, as is WD40. These two items make the install much more pleasant. Speaking of pleasant, the instructions from Greddy are TERRIBLE, they never meantion that taking off the passenger front wheel is probably one of the best ideas you can have.

As far as the Greddy he said he'd be running it very low. AFAIK the greddy is fine at low (ie. spec) boost. It was just when people would up the boost past... 6? psi that there were problems.

The upgraded ones, all three, allow more pressure. The BNR one also adds water cooling to extend the life of the turbo but I don't think that helps much for the life of the engine.

Oh and I'm definitely still leaking coolant. Looks to only be occurring when my car cools down after having it hot enough to open up the thermostat because my reservoir wasn't down at all this morning even though there's a small puddle of coolant under my car. I've ordered some new hoses from Ray but I'll keep driving even with a little leak. Not like filling up my coolant every day or two is gonna kill me. Definitely should have taken that hose completely off when I cut it rather than doing it inside the bay.
I think the problems start flowing around 8 to 9 psi. So I hear anyway.

From experience with an O2 sensor on my Stealth they do get stuck in there pretty damn good. We had a torch and some chemical that was supposed to help break down the stuff that locks it in there. After about 30 minutes of the torch we gave up and I took it to a pro shop. They just used a bigger torch and it came right out.

::runs out from his corner and whispers to Danc::

Running an untuned turbo 8 at high psi isn't the only reason the baseline Greddy kit fails.
How about bearing failure due to reduced cooling effect from restricted oil flow.
My only intent here is to make sure Danc has covered all grounds because I don't want to see a fellow 8 blow his engine.
But I'm sure someone here will find a reason why this isn't true.

Thermal expansion is a great way to get stubborn bolts out.
Torch can be your friend (unless its in the hands of Steve )

Ironic, I just got a call from the guy who was taking care of my o2 sensor, he used his torch to heat the area around the sensor...... and he stripped the threads.

Doesn't MM and even Charles recommend restricting the oil line on base Greddy units?

Too much heat for a long period of time will cause the metal to weaken.
You need to know how to do it right and what kind of torch to use.

Yes... an oil restrictor is important so the oil isn't introduced into the turbine or compressor (which will cause it to smoke).
But the journal bearing in the base Greddy kit also relies heavily on the flow of oil for cooling and lubrication.
Another reason as to why you should never shut the car off while its still hot.

I don't think replacement OEM parts get the deal but I sent you a PM anyway.

EDIT: And it's only $50 after shipping on OnlineMazdaParts. And you can probably go to Westside with that printed out and they'll give you it for $42. Hard to get it for much cheaper than that unless you wait for a local sucker like me to get a rear diffuser.

Jon's car! It'll go nice with the red.

Oh and if you got the new DR midpipe because of your unofficial Racing Beat sponsorship I'm going to lie, tell you I'll help install it, then knock you out and take it as my own. And sleep with it.

Coincidentally enough that's also my plan if it really is a Racing Beat Blowup Doll™ though I'm not sure how you would go about installing that...

Box looks like the right size.
What else does RB make that would fit in a box that long?

Oh. Now we're really guessing? I'm going with sways. Could be springs too. Straight pipe (since they don't offer the DR) could also fit but I don't think Steve would get that.
