The rotors shipped yesterday from CA, so they won't be here until mid next week at the earliest. Weekends anytime, or nights after 6:00pm work best. I have a well lit garage with enough space if it gets dark.

While "a couple beers" is a nice gesture, who ever does the job is getting cash + beers if they want them. I'm a complete stranger to the forum, so I don't expect "handouts".

2004 / ~47k / yes - driven in the winter /

Much Appreciated,
Nate
Better to do it at your place. Since it is relatively old and was driving in the winter I'm betting its gonna be harder to get those rotors off your car then some newer cars or cars w/fewer miles. Especially if the pads have never been changed.

If there's any problems it's better to have 'em in your garage then someone elses. Assuming you've got a garage. Just pick a date/time and let the people show up.

I didn't realize Steve had to use a torch on his rears. I thought a blunt object was all that was used.

As for it being a handout... we get to play with yet another RX-8. Believe it or not most of us enjoy that.

BTW - What color is your 8?

What ever happened with your final exhaust? Was it shotty workmanship? I saw a set of exhaust finishers in the FS section, but they're weren't going to ship them.

Still liking it?

That happens once the shrouds run out of plastic.

Brian never came over and I haven't crawled under. In talking with Jon though we both agree'd that the guy had to be full of **** because you can't rotate the position of the two bolts in the front.

That is what I was thinking, but I also noted that he was correct about how close it runs to the rear dif. Like it almost touches if I remember correctly.

Oh well - It must be alright then because you haven't had any problems since.

Speaking of problems (sort of) My car is doing a new thing. My check engine light is off.... which it shouldn't be because I still don't have a cat installed. It'll pop back on from time to time, but most of the time, it stays off now.

I am going to autozone tonight to hunt for that motorcycle gasket/o-ring, so I think I'll have them pull any codes that are stored. (I'm sure there are a few)

So here's the BHR deal I was referring to back a page or two.

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/sale-you-have-all-waited-169931/

Won't start officially for another week but if you're considering one aftermarket thing you'll definitely want to get a quote from him.

Keep forgetting to mention this but noticed it again when I got in my car after my short trip to Philly. I think my cat is dying.

I was noticing the stink of my exhaust more over the Winter. Kinda thought it might just be due to long periods of not-starting, terrible cranking starts, and then more long periods of not-starting.

But now I'm driving it regularly again and it's still kinda stinky.

No CELs (tho I'm gonna hook up the AP and see if they're there but not showing) but some of the 04s used to get along w/o CELs even when the Cat was replaced by a midpipe.

I'm planning on doing my first Zoom Zoom cleaning next weekend (along with a belated oil change) so we'll see if that helps clean it up at all. Depending on how much time I have I might clean out my intake manifold and SSV. Mostly because I haven't yet. I know there's some oil in it. Might as well make sure it's top-shape.

Ryan - I'll have an extra non-catted midpipe shortly if you need a loaner. Until you can get your own RB midpipe

(I doubt they'll cover your cat under warranty because your car is green and thus not stock)

Update on the turbo install:

Everything is hooked up and I ran a quick test. No leaks were found... which is good!

Boost gauge was showing vac at -16 on idle. Not bad!

Car idled for about 30 seconds and white smoke started to billow out of everywhere!

Of course I started to freak out a little bit thinking I had a major oil problem, but the smoke doesn't smell like oil, or coolant or anything else white smoke coming out of everywhere typically smells like. So after QUICKLY shutting off the car I tried to figure out what the hell this was, and I finnally came across the answer. WD40.

I coated some stubborn bolts (actually quite a few) with it and when it heated up, it started to burn off causing a shitload of white smoke. Car apparently is idling aok though. Hopefully I will be able to get the car out to the road tomorrow.

That is true... when I try to the read the forums on my phone, half of the content is signature...

So John: I am starting to shop for new cat-backs because, even with my new midpipe, I'm not getting that deep sound that I want. Sent Brice a PM and he said either the AP or the exoticspeed S1-T...
Those two also happen to be the cheapest (from fluid) with a price difference of 50 bones.
What thought process did you go through on your decision to go with AP? I really don't give a **** about the blue tips. I just want loud+deep tone.

Ryan, I haven't really heard your exhaust to really compare.

Anyone want racing beat?

EDIT: Found something interesting buried somewhere in the aftermarket performance mod section posted by Atilla. I guess the exoticspeed was modeled after the AP catback... Interesting.

A couple of reasons were thrown around but one that stuck out was the fact that the s1 was modeled after the AP exhaust. So basically, it's the same exhaust...just two different companies...it's a matter of preference between the two companies then...who would you rather give your money to...Agency or Exoticspeed?

on another note - the r1 sounds a little more tempting because for 1. it's lighter...and 2. the dimensions seem to be less restricting than the s1. Fluid also mentioned if you buy the mid pipe and the exhaust he'll give you $100 off.

I'm not sure how much you wanna blow on an exhaust. But right now it's looking like this. The s1 and the AP are identical. Price for the AP is 750 w/out shipping. Price for the s1 is 500 w/out shipping however doesn't include a midpipe. If you were to buy the mid pipe, the total will be the exact same as the AP (750) however the difference will be shipping, due to the fact it'll be two boxes being shipped instead of 1. Between the s1 and the r1 has been stated but in regards to sound, the s1 was said to be more quiet than the r1. The s1 was also noted as a streetable exhaust where as the r1 is more for race. All three exhausts are loud though.

Right now, bottom line IMO

AP: comes w/a midpipe - 750
R1: lighter, better flow and unique piping - 650
S1: more quiet, no mid pipe, but the cheapest. - 500

IMHO John's car seemed a little raspier and louder than mine - particularly in the cabin. I was kinda surprised how loud his sounded in the car. Mine seems a little deeper but also a little quieter. I don't know how to describe the difference better than that but I'd be more than happy to give you a ride.

Keep in mind tho that most people say that while the Borla is one of the best with a cat it starts to drone w/o so while the sound should be comparable that 'droning' would definitely make me consider getting something less likely to force you to overpay on a midpipe.

On a completely unrelated note I started tweaking the settings on my shocks. It's absolutely phenominal how different the car is at 0 setting, 1 setting, and 5 setting. I've got it at 5 now and unless I'm going over a speedbump you wouldn't know I have a suspension capable of handling pretty much any track. Anyone planning on having a DD that they want to upgrade the suspension for but don't want to go all-out fully adjustable coilovers should definitely go with the Tokicos.

Well, I don't think I would mind a little bit of drone. But the Borla is more expensive in the places that I have found. Its funny though, people have said the racing beat is right up there with the Borla, and I just think my RB is so quiet now.

Plus you consider price, the RB is more expensive new than the systems I'm looking at. I don't know what to make of that....

Back to your unrelated note... how do you know that the Tokicos are better than any other adjustable suspension? I mean, maybe there is some other brand out there that can do a better job... or can do just as good a job for cheaper? lol.

There probably are ones comparable out there but the Tokico gets so stiff that it actually upsets the handling of the car and so soft that the ride is as good as OEM but with stiffer springs. Honestly don't see how you could top it without ride height adjustability.

You might be able to find something that can do as well as the D-Specs for less money but IMHO you aren't going to find something that is better than them.
