Simic, that car looks like a pretty good deal. I would say go for it.

Also, good call not getting an auto - I think you would regret it after awhile. But you would have super sweet paddle shifters.

Vyn, i think i found your "dark RX8" you've seen now and then going to wokr.

There is (yet another) `05 Shinka rolling around the canton / massillon area. A woman owns it. It's spoiler-less as well. Didn't get a chance to talk to her nad i wasn't in mine so i didn't have any of the "welcome to the club" prints with me.

Betting though that's what you keep seeing. Maybe...

Remember Ryan, you're talking to a guy who ran the AEM before the RB, both intakes with and without a mid-pipe (if you're looking for sound differences).
But its funny to read the excuses you come up with to justify getting it.

Why do you feel like it's a bad idea?

Yeah... I've been seeing many more. I saw a WB on TUSC by Mark's, first time I'd seen one there, and there is that red one that always parks by Buffalo Wild Wings in Massillon, oh well...

Speaking of intakes - Jon - what is the best way to clean your RB air filter?

If you have the extra cash to blow and want to do it... go for it.
But the direction you want to go with your car, in my opinion, it'll be a waste.
You won't gain anything and with a mid-pipe you won't hear the intake.
Both my AEM and RB intake was only audible with my cat installed.
Once I had the mid-pipe, neither could be heard (though my AP catback does help amplify the sound).

But its become apparent that some people here don't care to hear my advise and want to argue EVERYTHING I say with irrational reasoning and not receptive to anything other than what they read.
This is why I no longer bother to offer advise here... whats the point?

You missed nothing bud.
Its my fault for biting my tongue and dealing with it.
I have a bad habit of trying too hard to help people and that is something I need to correct.
It becomes stressful to read others not listening to reason and I've had to step back and not get involved for my own sanity.
I thought some time away would help, which is why I haven't been posting.

Ouch. Are you refering to me??

My comments were made in jest, not to hurt anyone's feelings or **** anyone off.

Damn poorly communicated message board sarcasm.....

Jon's just mad because he'll explain why something isn't a good idea, and then people do it anyway. Me not using new gaskets on my old midpipe would be a good example of that. Jon says "here is why you should" and supports it with well researched facts... and then I say "no, I'm sure that it'll be fine" with no research or facts.

Anyway - best way to clean the RB air filter? I haven't cleaned my yet since I owned the car... I assume it sucks pretty bad, (or literally, isn't sucking as well) as it once did.

I just took mine out when I had the intake off, hit it up against the wall (not the filter itself but the siding of the filter) until I felt like most of the crap was off it. But I just did that because my life lessons on filters mostly applies to vacuum cleaner filters where you're never supposed to 'brush' them. I have no idea if car filters are the same way.

I did pick off some random piece of vegetation that was up against it. Amazing how much crap gets caught by it.

But you know you could have just searched, n00b...

http://www.knfilters.com/cleaning.htm

Reading that it seems like it costs almost as much for the cleaning stuff as it would for a new filter.

+1 on the welcomes. You should definitely stop up to the Boneyard in a couple weeks. And there's always a couple weekends of 'spirited' driving between you and Columbus.

I'm out in Medina a fair amount of time visiting family at Lexington Ridge off 57. So if you ever see a Nordic Green (which probably looks black) that's probably me.

Well it was pretty obvious that the guy there didn't take me pretty seriously. His first question was "how old are ya?".....First thing that came across my head was, grrrrreeeaat another one of these douchebags. Even though I knew more about the car than he did (which is pretty sad since i've only been reading the forums for a few days, proves how much good info is on here).

The car has a TON of scratches on it. EVEN ON THE ROOF somehow! The hood has so many little chips on the paint, it's almost like they took it off roadin'. Passenger side rear door, has 2 big key scratches on it. I think the seal on the right stop light is bad, since it was completely fogged in. The inside is like as bad as the outside. Near the moon roof controls there is a burn mark from a cigarette. The center console has the gray color almost totally worn off on some sides. The stick shift is completely worn off/scratched up, you can barely tell the pattern on the top of it.

However, the K&N typhoon v2 sounds great. The engine itself sounds like it doesn't have any problems. Guess I'm just a little pissed because as soon as I told him I'm 20 years old, he's like "well, i can give you the keys to it, but you can't go anywhere".... -_-

I dunno, what you guys think?

Well... typically if you didn't take care of the outside, you def. didn't take care of the inside (meaning engine - oil changes, etc)

However, the damages you have are cosmetic. A scratch here and a ding here really doesn't hurt the car that much, ya know? The interior pieces can be replaced pretty easily with the number of part outs on the forum - so not the end of the world there.

I mean, unless it was really run without enough oil for awhile or something serious, it would be hard to cause a lot of irreversible damage in the miles that are on the car. It appears that the cosmetic stuff is what lowered the price down. But as John said, its still a GT for a good price. I figure if you bought it, had it prof. detailed and touched up and changed all the fluids and filters, you would be in good shape.

However, I always say trust your instincts in these situations. If it didn't feel right, walk away. There will always be another one.

EDIT - That car was most likely woman owned... the wear on the shifter probably means rings on the right hand. Something else to consider.

The fogging up of a taillight housing happens often and if the car is under warranty would have gotten replaced. Means the previous owner probably had that problem and never took it to the dealership while under warranty. Not a real good sign.

I'm not so sure about it being owned by a woman. Most of them aren't real high on getting new, loud intakes. But ya never know (Hi Megz!).

Have you trolled through the for sale section?

Hehe, you know me too well lol. To be honest though, when I was considering looking for an 8 for my replacement car, no matter where I went, no dealer knew enough about the car. Some Mazda dealerships included. I'd be tempted to look private party and bring one of the guys on the forum here that knows the car well enough to check it out.

You know....I should have probably not even bothered talking to the guy there at all. Because after he asked me how old I was, I asked him right away how many cylinders the car had (to see if he really is an idiot) and he said "oh, I think it has 6". Totally should have turned around and gotten back into my car and left hehe.

Yeah Meg, I really wish I could find a good priced/good condition RX-8 that's being sold by a private seller that's MT. Almost all the ones I've found on autotrader/cars and some other websites are all Autos =(

Yea...they all go smart and bailed. Did you check the FS section to see if you can find a local. Heck...check out BUNIQUE's ride...he has a great deal on that thing.

That was mostly my problem as well. Too far, auto, wrong color, too much etc. Always something in the way. Good luck

Yeah... with flights as cheap as they are now-a-days, his 8 is really nice in my opinion, and add the flight and the cost of gas and I bet you'd still be out ahead. Plus you know the car has been taken care of.

I'd say if you're not on a set time frame (I had to find a replacement car in 12 days) wait until you find something that is exactly what you're looking for.

And as for the intake... sometimes girls date boys that nicely mod their car for them. Then the girls dump the boy and keep the parts! Gold-diggers.
I don't know, all the CSI I've watched leads me to believe that rings are pretty much the only thing that can scratch a shift **** to hell like he's describing.
