You can read the local autocross schedules at the links DB placed. They post all of the events from the area on there. Both SCCA and car club.

Do you have any experience roareriot (Not necessary BTW). Very nice people and newbie friendly.

I highly encourage it.

I wish I felt like my 8 was strong enough to do a funday or autox. I may go to watch you all though.

Heh. Madness isn't off camber. It's the turn at the bottom of madness that's infamous for being off camber. Madness is just... well... nuts. People can't tell from the pic but you can't see over the turn which is why they call it madness. It's really about the turn before at the end of the long straight anyway. Madness is a throwaway turn (ie. you can't take it wrong unless you wreck) and it's incredibly complicated because it's part of a three turn connected, elevated sequence which is one of the most technical sequences you'll ever experience on a track. That's why it's so much fun - at least once you figure it out (which I don't think until my second day at mid-ohio so I don't know if you caught it yet).

Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah the download sessions are very repetitive but they're still good because they will reinforce good habits. NASA is too structured though. Most places only do one or two classes then let people option it. Almost everywhere else will be a lot looser for ya doc.

It's good you came out unscathed and appropriately humbled. Things are different when you're doing 120mph and taking turns at 80+. And spinning out isn't something you laugh about when you get back to grid - because there may be walls involved.

Hey did they have the bus stop open for you or were they letting you skip through turns 2 and 3 and going right into turn 4? NASA is one of the few clubs at mid-ohio that don't use the bus stop. It's a lot more fun when you have it.

Oh and Optical TDI was apparantly down there. You didn't bump into him, did you?

You never know till you try. I take it it's not quite behaving? People would love to see a turbo'd 8 out there. They're used to seeing all us NA bums cruising around.

First of all it's most appropriate to be humble around here. There are several very good drivers. Secondly, there is nothing to be embarrassed about. We all have had to start and we all make mistakes. None of us are pros here.

ESPECIALLY at the track day. This is NOT a race. It is to learn to be a better driver and have fun. RK and Tony are much better track drivers than I am. They will go faster. That's OK. I'm trying to learn some of the technical aspects of driving.

So come on out. We're all pretty good guys here. Friendly bunch. You may get a little good natured ribbing, but we're all pretty supportive. Join right in. We'd love to have you.

Angry

Went to a party for a friends bday, someone vandalized my car.

Someone threw a 50lb bag of sand out of the back of a truck at my rx8 and then dumped it all over the body, If that wasn't enough they also decided it would be funny to hit my fender with a large piece of wood. The sand was wet and it was around 30 degrees at the time... did a good number on my paint.

Well, once I get my AEM on there I'm sure it will. I just don't want to track it until I get the emanage out and the Hymee/Cobb flasher in. If I track it now I wouldn't want to push it very hard at all, that can come next year.

I may do BeaveRun the day after Nelson also, if anyone is interested. Brian?
I'm not sure a Nelson Ledges fun day would be the best option for my first on-track experience, but Beaver Run looks like a realistic possibility. I've heard that it's a good place to start.

Tom if you want to head over Mother's Day morning, I'm up for that. We'd be in group one together and can follow each other over. It's not a bad drive over there at all.

My pit crew will be there for Nelson's but they'll go to their mothers for Sunday.

thanks for the words of enthusiasm everyone. sorry i didn't respond sooner. typically, i do not do much on the forum over weekends. i live here at work during the week but weekends i rarely touch my computer.

April 23 is the first ultra-sound. So i may have more news for you friday!

Steve and Jon, going to be putting your DIY's to use here pretty soon. Ordered a catch can and a new shifterboot. should arrive this week. decided that since i will be tearing apart the center console to do the boot, i'd install a kill switch as well. Fun and thrills!

LOL so we told the parentals this weekend. good grief, i wish i'd been running my phone's video recorder. The long and short of it is we told them with subtle gifts. They opened them, look at the gifts (jar of Prego, package of the gold fish crackers - baby size, etc) and "happy easter grandparents" cards... They just kinda were like "aww that's so nice... um.. hey wait a minute... ARE YOU PREGNANT!?!?" yea, good times.

I really don't recommend a fun day for first timers. It's not about them driving or the difficulty of a drive & follow which is a good way to learn the lines.

It's because of the people around you. There are a lot of stupid ******* idiots at fun days and you will have no idea until you get there how safe your group is going to be. People will overdrive their cars, they won't let people in 'slower' cars going faster then them pass, and they might do things that will get them black flagged without realizing they're doing something that would get them black flagged.

It might be OK in an afternoon session but I still think that an HPDE is worth the extra cash for a first time event because it's definitely a safer environment.

But you may very well get lucky and have a number of nice, fun cars out on the track with you and no one will be doing anything better or worse than at an HPDE. It's just a crapshoot.

Sounds like fun, Mark. We can talk more about it at the Boneyard. I may go to Nelson Ledges to hang out and watch.

I'm going to have to get some new tires thrown on before then. I'm thinking about going with Potenza RE-11's. Anyone have any thoughts on these?

If you have any questions, feel free to call.

And make sure you tap into the starter interlock switch, NOT the clutch switch.
Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-clutch-switches.jpg

I had a guy on the forum contact me because he was having problems.
Come to find out he tapped into the wrong switch.
I plan on clarifying this in my DIY, just haven't gotten around to doing so.
