Auto X question... looking at the Akron Sports Car club site: auto X classes: I would be in SP because my engine emissions are not legal from running catless, correct?

Running against cars with after-market turbos and superchargers and stuff... lol

I have Nelsons on my calendar, and I was reading their site - for the fun days, I can use my motorcycle helmet - So not a problem there (I still have yet to do the "John" test and see if I still fit into my car with a helmet on.)

- - - - - - - - - - - -

Trademark: Sorry about you car - its a true coward that messes with a man's ride. Personally, I would rather get the crap beat outta me than have someone mess with my car.

-----------------------

Danc - I know you've had to replace your header from going turbo, but has anyone else tried to replace the headers in our car? I was thinking about changing those when I put in the other lower intake manifold this summer.

I can't remember which local was asking about these but someone is selling an iPod connector for the 8 for $100.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. But you will get CRUSHED in SP. STX and STU still require a cat (from what I read). I might be wrong, but it says:

STX, STU:
Any high flow catalytic converter(s) are allowed, but must attach
within six inches of the original unit. Multiple catalytic converters
may be replaced by a single unit. The inlet of the single
replacement converter may be located no further downstream
than 6" along the piping flow path from the original exit of the
final OE converter.

http://scca.com/documents/Solo_Rules...Solo_Rules.pdf

That's interesting because that kicks Brian into SP also, right? Ryan, do you still have your cat?

If we get enough 8s running this year, we can start a mini-challenge amongst ourselves. That could be kinda fun!

Yeah... I mean, I still have my cat... but that seems like a pain in the *** to remove and reinstall it every weekend.

Plus, if I do get into this, I plan to attack this like I play golf... its me vs. the course and the score card (or the clock in the racing side of things).

. . . but I bet its easy to say that now as I'll be sitting last in points...

No but I may run BSP anyway since I'll swap out my cat at some point this season. And I'm really not in it to win it.

Steve you won't be either but honestly you're not gonna win in any class this year. BSP locally is probably going to be an indexed class for most events (meaning you race on the PAX adjusted time rather than real time). But if I ran my car in BSP with r-comps and upgraded autox brakes I would be very competitive locally. Without comps I don't have a shot.

STX is the first non-stock group that people think the RX8 could compete against other cars nationally. Locally any decently prepped car with a good driver can compete in most classes.

here's a fun thing i did this weekend... well, fun for me at least. i'm sure others may disapprove.

Going north on rt21 with a buddy of mine, we were talking about the car (he'd never been in an RX8 before). so i am redlining 1st, 2nd, 3rd and having fun with it. he's just amazed about the car in general and the redline had him floored. One thing i hadnt done in my car yet though was redline 4th gear. soooo, zoom! hit about 126mph before the limiter kicked in. dammit that was fun!

not too sure about redlining 5th gear. i believe i'd probably need a lot more road to do that. LOL.

he loved the car though. i think i may have created another rotorhead. He said the car sounded "futuristic" or even like KITT. never thought about it i guess. i just love listening to it.

aero drag will not allow you to redline 5th...it should stop accelerating at like 6500 RPMs. Also...what you did was stupid and you should never do it again. </end required rant>

I thought you were having a kid?

Last I checked your stock tires probably can't handle that speed, the people around you can't handle that speed, the road you were on sucks, and you can't handle that speed.

Yeah - not a good call... in your defense though, RT 21 would be the place to do that... flat, straight, and recently resurfaced. Still not the best idea you've ever had I'm sure.

DB - that article is awesome! I wonder if that's the guy that stole my car (same color, year, etc.)

I Laughed so hard at the picture of the guy in the back of the squad car almost soiled myself....

Awesome in the fact that the driver was an idiot. I also don't understand why you would get complaints about 3 cars doing 80 in a 65. Take your $150 ticket like a man and move on though.

Well, 3 cars doing 80 and driving too close to other cars, changing lanes erratically, etc. I don't think it was the speed, I bet it was the driving behavior. They were probably messing with someone who didn't want to "race" and that person called the cops.

Its crap like this that pisses me off when I get a 77 in a 65 ticket....
I wonder if the police ever found the guys that stole my car... or they're too busy pulling me over for going 12 over in the right lane. . . but, the law is the law.

You're Invited

Last week a friend here at the office invited me to join in on a car meet. Today he said yall can show up too. It is a OH, NY and PA get together that happens every year and this year it is in our backyard...well...mine at least. Any questions...let me know.

GREAT LAKES GTG 6!

Well time has come again for the laid back GTG to start the year off.

This year’s event will be back in Cleveland and will be held on Sunday May 3rd 2009.

We would love to see you come out and have some fun. Now remember this GTG is to just hang out, BS and BBQ. No prizes, no awards, just an enjoyable day to relax and hang with other regional dubs on the beach in a non-competitve environment. This event grows every year and is always a blast!

This year GTG will be sponsored by HS Tuning : Form Has Never Functioned So Well!

HS Tuning -the source for your next project: dealers of Unitronic, Southbend clutches, boost controllers, Snow WAI, Garrett and Tial turbo products, and more. They will be on hand to answer questions about their products and services.

Schedule:
Meet at Dave’s Cosmic Subs around 11am to grab some subs.

Dave’s Cosmic Subs
9664 Mentor Ave
Mentor, OH 44060

(440) 639-1969
Driving directions to the beach from Dave's Cosmic Subs

From there we will head out to eat lunch at the beach. If you’re not in the mood for subs there are plenty of fast food restaurants that we will pass on the way to the beach which is only 6 miles away.

Show is here starting around 12:30:
Headlands Beach State Park
9601 Headlands Road
Mentor, OH 44060

Mach and Vynd. Also those of you trying to kill yourselves on the freeway.

Just want to touch base with you guys interested in starting some track days and Autocross. I haven't read anywhere if you guys have modified your brake pads. If you haven't I highly recommend you investigate what you want to do.

I'm not going to give advice here, there are people who are much smarter and knowledgeable here than I. But stock pads and standard brake fluid on the track are not a good idea.

I can discuss further if you'd like. but it's something easy to change before you go. Probably the simplest safety mod you will make on a stock car. I use Autocross pads. They aren't designed specifically for the track, but I'm also not driving at full speed. So they are in the acceptable range. They are much better at the lower autocross speeds.

the tires performed fine.

no one was around me.

the section of road i was on was smooth, flat and uninhibited.

i can handle that speed as i used to race go-kart at mid-ohio, pocono, talledega, summit point, watkins glen...

careful what you say when you judge, unless you know details about whom you are judging... about the only thing that really applies would be DB's point of "what you did was stupid and you should never do it again"... yep it was and ya i dont intend to. I simply wanted to do it and did it. no reason to do it again.

Doc - I have drilled and vented rotors, but with a replacement pad (posi quiet - not exactly known for performance)

So, if I trash those pads, I really don't care, but if its more of a safety issue, than we may have a problem. What is the bestway to upgrade the brake fluid? I'm going to be making a fluid run up to summit in the near future and it sounds like I need to add brake fluid to my list.

Basically, just tell me what to buy and how to do it... and then drive to canton and do it for me. (just kidding, about the last part only.)
