AutoX is racing around cones in a parking lot and occurs almost every Sunday during the Spring/Summer. It's a race against the clock and not other cars. And it's not 'track' racing where you're on a road course with other cars around you. You can stop up to Eastlake this weekend to watch/join. It's cheaper, less dangerous, and requires significantly less prep work on your car. That being said it is pretty damn hard to get fast at.

Nelson's a fine starting point for learning how to drive on a race track - just not a Nelson's Fun Day which is essentially an 'open' track day without a lot of controls over it.

On June 6th/7th Nothern Ohio Porsche Clubis having an HPDE at Nelson's

http://norpca.org/drivered.html

And on Aug. 1st/2nd the Northern Ohio BMW group is having an HPDE at Nelson's.

http://www.nohiobmwcca.org/calendar/default.aspx

Those are both good groups to go out with for a HPDE. I don't think any other groups have drivers ed days at Nelson's yet this year but they will probably pick up a weekend or two.

Beaver Run is probably safer (more run off room) so that would be another option as well as Mid-Ohio which has schools nearly every weekend. MidOhio tends to be a fair amount more complicated and costs more as well.

It's in a parking lot across from Captain's stadium in Eastlake. Here's a street view of the entrance on Vine st. just past the BP station:

If you're really interested then there is a rookie school on May 2nd at the same place. While it isn't vital to go to before doing AutoX it's still very helpful.

I agree with Ryan. Come out this Sunday to Eastlake and give it a try. It's lots of fun, nice people and very rookie/newbie friendly.

If you enjoy it, then sign up for the rookie class.

While there are AX every weekend, they are at different venues and hosted by different clubs. If you go back a few pages, you will see the links to the schedules posted.

I'll be there Sunday in the Red RX8. There will be several others also. But sign up and join in. You will learn alot about driving, about your car, and why it does things it does. It will make you a much better driver and you will enjoy your car more.

Man, I've been gone for less than 24hrs and I had three pages to get caught up on. Ughhh!

Anyhow, I swapped out my plugs today. Below are the old ones which I doubt were ever changed.

As you can tell, they were toast. The two on the left are the leading and the two on the right are the trailing. What I found interesting was that one of the leading plugs was the old original style and the other was the new version with the four cuts into the end of the plug. My guess is that when they replaced my motor shortly after I bought the car, they lost one of the plugs and replaced it with a new one.

Anyhow, I'm glad they're replaced. The car idles perfectly and feels like I've gained some throttle response and pickup.

Thanks again Jon!

Eh. Now I am concerned about my plugs. If those were the originals, how many miles were on them?

40K.

BTW, I noticed a few pages back that Doc referred to me as a better driver than him. I'd like to put it on record that I dispute the validity of that comment due to the fact that I have absolutely no formal training or experience in a drivers school as he and RK have. Please do not expect me to perform well or on a professional driver type level of any sort when May 9th comes around.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm just a noob with a lead foot.

This has been a public service announcement paid for in part by tony_673. Thank you for reading.

Welcome new people btw

if your just getting your 8 i completely understand the speeding. Wait till you get a few tickets, it will slow you down. I had no problem doing 95 everywhere when i first got mine, until i got a warning and 2 speeding tickets in a month.

Save it for the track IMO, or just dont post it on the forums. BTW, dont do that **** with a passenger. Its one thing to put your life at risk, but dont put someone else's (assuming no one is driving around you)

welcome to... what, 3 pages ago? did you post this to appease your ego or because you really, truly feel, from the bottom of your heart, ultimately believe that making this hypocritical statement will some day, some how, in some way save a life and had you not made said statement, then you would feel that you have failed the ohio contingent of RX8Club, humanity itself and God otherwise?

I'm 36... raced on a semi-professional level for nearly 8 years. I've probably had 4 tickets since i started driving at age of 16: 2 of which were speeding, both of which were for a mere 5mph over the speed limit and two were for expired plates.

Don't tell me (or anyone) what to do with / in their car. Don't make (or post) assumptions about a situation which you plainly didn't bother to read up on details before posting.

The best (and only thing) you could have said was exactly what DB did 4 pages ago:
what you did was stupid and you should never do it again
period. end of story. game over. thanks for playing. do not pass go, do not collect $200. these are not the droids you are looking for... Move along.

but hypocracy is never a good way to try to make a point. ever. welcome to the raw end of a bad morning that's rapidly getting worse. Thank you for further lending to the burning embers. your efforts are noted. should you feel further need to continue this topic, please call my personal hotline at 18003825633. have a great day.

Your bad morning looks like it's going to provide an interesting one for the rest of us. Thanks. Are things that bad in the mechanical pencil making business?

I'm not trying to get on your hit list, just trying to lighten the mood. I hope your day gets better.

Boy banned, you're feeling sensitive today ...
Way to give the "Daddy just hit mommy at the dinner table" feel to the whole forum.

Meh, whatever, people speed - you can go check out the hundreds of "I crashed my 8" threads to see the outcome of doing it too much.

Its not a reference to your driving ability or age or level of responsibility or legitimacy of your birth or even your sexual orientation. All Trademark was saying is that it'll be better for everyone involved if you save your lead foot for the track

Ah, well put!

I suppose I should retract my previous statement that I have a lead foot. Instead, I have a lead boot that I put on when I get to the track and then toss it in the trunk when I leave.

Doc keeps trying to steal it though......

Let me borrow that lead boot... I may have another use for it when the employees come into my office to complain about stuff that is beyond the company's control. (Rising health care costs is the hot button of the week.)

No, that's what the tazer's for.... "My benefits cost too much! What are you gonna do about...ZZZZZZZZZZTT!!" Problem solved.

In other news, I was looking through some of my old posts and found this video from my second autocross that I did years back. If you're bored or curious, check it out.

Hey... those of you who were in my "group" at the autoshow...
Which entry booths did we stop by to fill out our information (like to win something)?
I just got a voicemail from someone saying to call them back about my entry from the Cleveland Autoshow.
I just tried calling and it said that all the representatives were busy, so I'll try again later.

I don't remember... I know I got my F150 hat by filling out a survey. Aside from that I don't know.
