It's not that easy. Which is why this is a problem.

Here's Kane's stab at it. If you follow through a couple posts you'll see Jeff come in with the standard 'you're doing it wrong' without providing any tips on how to do it right.

No one knows how the numbers in that table are used to arrive at the appropriate dwell timing. So no one knows what scale or formula to use to adjust it.

Well almost no one.

Ryan- Not to sound like what others are telling you (which it kinda is), but have you tried to contact Cobb to see how you can set the dwell to 5ms?
Maybe they will be more cooperative.

I'm deeply saddened by your disrespecting post.

Really Cobb has a pretty hands-off approach when it comes to helping tuners who aren't 'Cobb' certified tuners. They also rely a lot on Jeff for info on the tuning the 8 and features for the 8. I'm pretty sure that Jeff is the reason they have the dwell table at all.

I also sent a PM to one of their tuners to see if he would help but I haven't gotten a response.

alright guys, since im puting those lotek gauges in my car soon, i wanna know your opinion on what three gauges to put in, like which ones are useful. im definitely putting in an oil pressure gauge since Jon told me its only a dummy gauge. but idk about the other two, oil temp and water temp? or like a trans oil temp? what do you think?

Are you referring to the plastic piece below the radiator? If so, then no.
When you open your hood, right behind the bumper is a dark gray plastic piece.
That is what it replaces.
Now that I think about it... doesn't Steve have it on his car?

OEM hood is 15lbs
Not sure what aftermarket hoods weight, but at least you can compare them to OEM.

Ryan has oil temp, oil pressure, and water temp gauges.
That should be good enough for you.

I like my autometer gauges. Summit sells them. Also, I recommend a vac/boost gauge if you plan to turbo your car at any point. If not I still recommend a vac gauge just so you can detect vac leaks or your engine going south on you.

Well, in my RB pod I have Coolant Temp, Oil Pressure, Oil temp, in that order.
In my opinion, these are good for general systems monitoring. Maybe Volt Meter for the battery? Keep an eye on your battery and alternator.

Also, New guy (ryan maybe? I don't feel like looking) I have the air diversion plates from greddy. they do look like OEM replacements, Mine came on the car when I bought it. They are "looser" fitting than OEM and can rattle a bit. I never hear it when I'm driving though, I just notice how loose they are when I'm under my hood breaking something.
And I just live with my check engine light because I lost my cat in the war.

Also, the OEM hood is aluminum, so going carbon fiber, while it will be lighter, will only save you a few pounds... So if you're doing it for weight reduction only, its not worth it, but if its for looks then do it up.

Jon - My car and your TPMS are talking just fine. I know we talked about how they may not be on the same frequency, but after leaving the boneyard on friday - no TPMS light.

Good to know!
And your 17" tires work great too.
I checked that tire calculator and when I'm doing 60MPH, I'm actually doing 60.2MPH.
So no worries with speed while using these tires.

Does a Vacuum gauge really help you detect the state of your engine? You don't need it for leaks. The OEM CEL for leaks seems good. Seems to tell me when I've created a leak pretty damn quick.

Oil temp and Oil pressure are nice because they can be linked through one sensor adapter where your oil filter attaches.

Water temp I'd really recommend just going with the RacingBeat water temp adapter unless you're pretty good at taking apart a decent chunk of your engine bay, disconnecting your rad hoses, and then cutting them to insert a sensor.

I have the prosport premium gauges but I still haven't quite hooked them up right so I can't tell you if I'd recommend them. They look very nice and once I get them better grounded and get the right constant power wired up they'll remember their peak settings and sound settings.

Also did you order the Lotek Gauge pod or the adapted Lotek pod from the group buy? The pod from the group buy is piano black and allegedly sits flush once installed. The Lotek does have some gap between it and the dash. Both require that you cut your dash but it's pretty easy when you make Jon do it.

Help

I've got quotes on both the Toyota Tacoma and the Subaru Forester. They are roughly the same price, as a replacement for my Chevy S10. Any thoughts?

I'm leaning towards the Tacoma with a cap.

+1 Toyota.

The Subaru is too much of a compromise. My step mother has one, the LL Bean edition or something. Its too much of a car, but gets poor gas mileage like a truck, it does a lot of things okay, but doesn't do anything particularly well.

Plus the Tacoma line of trucks was damn near indestructible on top gear. Apples to Oranges there, but still worth noting.

Also Sound clip of BHR's midpipe:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mxj0dLIdr8
...... I didn't like it... lots of pops, higher pitched, sounded raspy... but its youtube.

I can't decide. It's tons better than the B&B but that's a POS midpipe to begin with. Seems pretty good with the stock as well. Definitely better than Brian's AP. I was hoping Charles would include a clip on his car. He's got a Borla which is allegedly the trickiest catback to get a good midpipe working and I've got a Borla so I care.

I'd wait until RB gets their act together before deciding anything.

What are you looking to do with it?

Motor Trend gushed all over the Subaru when it gave it 2009 SUV of the Year.

http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear/...ear/index.html

Of course they also gave car of the year to the Nissan GTR, so you have to take the car mag-rag reviews with a huge grain of salt.

The truck serves as my daily driver. With 2 offices and the internet business, plus 2 boys, I'm constantly hauling a bunch of boxes and stuff. Nothing extremely heavy. Just lots of stuff.

The truck is nice, because the storage compartment is separate from the people compartment. So if I spill gas, or haul stinky shoes, it doesn't affect the passenger compartment.

The Forester gets better gas milage and is more pleasing to a future She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed....

Storage space is roughly the same, IF I put the back seats down in the Forester. Otherwise the truck hauls more. But then pay the price in milage.

ALSO the truck is a V6. Forest is a 4 cylinder and has no get up and go at all!

I think they are both good choices. The Toyata guys heard the price Subaru was giving me and matched it. That made it a tougher choice.

I'm actually shocked at how far they've come down. They are tripping over each other to get my business. And I didn't even have to act like a jerk (a- hmmm)

You really can't go by that video that I posted either as my camera doesn't take very good sound clips.

Either way I'm happy with it, i really wasn't caring too much about the sound tone considering how cheap I got it brand new

True. I just heard it before the auto show and it sounded raspier then in that video. Figure it's a fair comparison with what they have.

But I know you didn't get it because you wanted it to sound great. You just love the flames.

Heres my problem

Some lady backed right up into my PARKED rx8 and now i have to get a whole new hood and bumper and i was just going to spend the extra money on the carbon fiber hood but the insurance covers it now so i thought i should just upgrade to carbon fiber hence why my plastic shroud piece is bent >=( and as for my bumper i have yet to still decide if i should get a mazdaspeed or keep the burnout lip (as it has no damage) and get the stock bumper again. What front would you guys go with mazdaspeed or front lip?
