Was driving along (not in boost) and heard a clunk from where the turbo is mounted. Noticed that drivability was different. I haven't taken it off yet, but I assume the fan is still in there. No big deal though, I'll leave the intercooler and piping in there for now and just take off the turbo and look at it. At least it's a good excuse to get BNR to rebuild it.

Any funny noises like a terrible whine after the clunk or a metal on metal grinding noise?

Did you notice any change in vaccuum after the clunk? Something breaking internally on the turbo causing the turbine not to spin would cause a massive exhaust restriction/more back pressue, causing the vaccuum to go closer to ambient pressure.

What is the driveability like now? Rough acceleration? Jumpy and hoppy? (you like those technical terms don't you )

That's exactly what happened. The ride was choppy to say the least. Right now it doesn't matter much because I took the AEM and extended it right into the engine making the car N/A again. I'll probably remove the emanage today and take the turbo/manifold/downpipe off tommorow and replace with the stock stuff. I should have a better idea what happened then.

Oooof that sucks. I've heard the "hoot of death" from a turbo before. It's very sad indeed.

By some chance you didn't kick up any road debris and maybe knock a vaccuum line off did you? The turbo on these kits sit kinda low right?

That really sucks. At least it's just the turbo and not the engine.

That was exactly what I thought when I read your turbo went. Get a BNR upgrade plus a pro tune and you'll probably be a helluva lot happier with the end product even tho I'm sure you would have been content with just a working turbo.

Yeah, but realistically the only line to get hit would be the wastegate line, everything else is covered up by the engine undercover.

I know, I feel slow now =( I can't even describe the difference in power between N/A and FI. Too bad I'm looking at sinking another 1700 into this project. Time to start working some OT.

I passed 3 8's yesterday.

Titanium Gray between Stoney Ridge Road and Detroit on 90W
Lightening Yellow between Detroit and Clague on 90W
Velocity Red between W25 and W44 on 90W

All would have been between 330 and 500PM.

Scared me for a second. I read '330 and 500RPM'.

Even for an autotragic that would be a problem...

lol

I think that John may have been to one up North before he went to Indy. Never read of anyone satisfied with any detailers around the area but I'm sure they're out there - somewhere.

well, apparently the 8 is too low to get on the rack at Westside. Looks like I gotta find somewhere else to do oil changes. hehe Enger Tire "thinks" they might be able to get it on their rack.

I think there is one of those quick change places by me that has a pit......

Or I just stop being lazy and change it myself...

Question for anyone out there there that has changed the oil in their 8 themselves...

Does the filter have and anti-drainback valve in it?

Haha. You have to change your own oil.

No idea. The K&N filter I use has it. This post seems to say that the OEM has it but maybe they were just talking generalities.

EDIT: Here

I took my two bold tires to Sear's to have them change it out to the Falken's Doc sold me.
The girl quoted me $11/tire which included balancing.
That sounded good so I rolled the tires into their bay.
I told the girl that the tires have TPMS in them, so they need to be careful.
She said, "Oh! That's bad!"
I asked, "Why?"
She replied, "Because everytime you change out tires, you need a new sensor!"
First I laughed and thought she was being cute (which she was kinda cute), so I said, "Yeah right."
And she said, "No, seriously. I need to charge you extra!"
She had a more serious look on her face so I told her, "Umm... no, you don't! I've had my tires swapped here before without new sensors and it worked just fine!"
Then she went to the back and talked to the "tire tech" and came back without saying anything (I was talking to another guy at the time).

I thought that was crazy for them to pull that with me.
Maybe she worded it wrong and meant to say that I need a new crush washer for the sensor

BTW Shinka_MJR- I love the new avatar.

You would think so since the filter is inverted.
But get the K&N filter as a replacement.
As Ryan mentioned, the K&N has it.

Silicon is a better choice for really hot and cold oil temps.

Bent the O2 sensor?
How do you bend the actual sensor?
Can you ask for the old sensor because I REALLY want to see this.
I'm a little suspicious.
I'm glad you're getting everything for free though... that's good news!
