No, disconnecting the battery keeps Steve from getting traffic tickets.

Welcome back home Steve. I need to talk to you about hockey leagues up in your area. We're tired of hiking out to Butler every week.

Riot - go ahead and sell the pipe if you can then. If you don't think its a big deal, I won't worry about it.

Mach: That is actually very good news about the speed camera ticket. That would have been my 4th ticket in 12 months. Do you know from your legal expertise if I'm looking at anything serious like a suspension? It really sucks because I'm not wreckless and none of my tickets have been for anything more than 17 over. 2 in Ohio, one from PA, and one speed camera in Ohio.
Brian - feel free to chime in with your experience in this realm also.

About Hockey: Kent State doesn't have a summer league, but I can put you in touch with some people about playing. The Rink at Akron Canton has a summer league also. I would need to know your skill level/ highest level you played at growing up and where to know who to call and see if you could get placed.

Doesn't his ticket in PA not count towards points either? Not sure if it counts towards insurance.

welcome back steve.

I will let you know when we can get the tires swapped. I think I am working the next few weekends, so it will either have to be a weekday or weekend in a few weeks.

Tom's picture says Superior and I would put it right around Superior and Chester.

Out of state points are not applied to your license...they do appear on your MVR though and depending on your insurance company can be applied to your insurance as risk.

Once you hit 3 you could potentially face up to 30 days in jail. Get a lawyer, srsly. The one I went to court on was my "3rd", and I use that term loosely, here's why.

I got 1 in Tennessee at the Tail of the Dragon in August 2007.

I got 1 in Columbiana on Fat Tuesday in 2008.

I got 3 In may in 2008, 2 in Cleveland and 1 in Warren.

Because of the time frame of the tickets, the Tennessee one had not shown up in Ohio yet (and yes eventually it does, but it didn't count as points)

The Fat tuesday one and another one in May had shown up on my record ( the first one in May I just paid quickly) So, by the time I got my 5th ticket (the 3rd in may, I only had 2 tickets appearing on my license because the 4th ticket I got I still hadn't went to court for or paid yet so it didn't show up on my record because it was still "open")

So when I had to go to court for the "3rd" (technically 5th) the others hadn't shown yet and I was basically on my 3rd ticket. I had to get a lawyer because I was facing 30 days in jail, for speeding.... I am currently on a 30 day suspended jail sentence and 2 years non reporting probation. This was as of last May. If I get a ticket for ANY moving violation within one year of my final court date last year I go to jail.

I hope you kinda followed that.

About hockey, basically I'm just looking to see if you know of any rec leagues in the area, roller hockey to be most specific. Puck or ball doesn't matter. The guys I've been playing with and I (my team) are tired of driving to Butler every week to play because we can't find a rec league around here.

I haven't played ice in about 6 years but I use to play ice all the time in several different leagues around here since I was about 14. Same with roller, I've been playing since 14, took a 5 year haitus, and picked it back up about a year and a half ago.

My understanding (and unfortunate experience) is that the City of Cleveland speed camera tickets are in no way tied into the State of Ohio for things such as suspension, points, or anything else. By a "civil" penalty, I mean it's roughly equivalent to you getting sued in small claims court by a little old lady for running over her flower bed. Except in this case the little old lady is the City, and they've stacked the deck.

In and of itself there are no criminal implications whatsoever. They do it this way because they avoid nasty, nit-picky little details like, oh, say, having to authenticate the photo, meeting a burden of proof, or paying a police officer overtime to come and sit in court to testify. This is why they can't give you points or suspend . . . what they do is legally insufficient. They get away with it because the fine is $100, and the cost to appeal is . . . . . . . $100. I have a lengthy rant about this somewhere on the forum from when it happened to me.

It was westbound Superior, a few blocks east of E21st Street. Figuring out where it was does no good though, because it's a mobile unit. If you see a van parked with a weird tri-pod thingie near it, that's them.

It's not like a stoplight camera - a radar detector will pick it up easily. I went out and bought a V-1 right after this.

Welcome back Steve!

Mach is 100% correct, those speed camera tickets don't count for points or anything criminal. I can't stand those things.

Alright guys I have a possible n00b mistake that I did and need to know what you guys think.

Yesterday I changed my oil drained it out about 3.75qts worth give or take. I was putting it into an Old Sunny D container so no accurate measurement. I added about as much as I took out and then turned my engine on let it warm up then let it sit for awhile and took a reading. It came out right on the bottom of the Dipstick for low. So i added another 1.8qts because I read in the manual that is the amount between the full line and the empty line. Content with that I went to bed and drove my car around today.

I got back and decided that I should probably check it again to make sure that it still was in the full margin. What I discovered is that it is well over full and above the full line. This surprised and worried me because I thought I had been so cautious in my measurements.

So I started paging through the forums and found that some guys are even adding as much as 5-6qts on Oil changes. (Yes I did jack it up on the one side to drain as much as possible) I've also pulled open my air box and there is no oil in my air filter or in the tubing leading to it.

In my eyes it would appear that im in the clear and that everything is going okay. What do you guys think should I try to drain some out or am I probably just bumping the dipstick on the sides and getting bad readings?

Sounds like you're OK Gopherage, specially since you checked the intake and no oil was visible.
You can drain a little out to be safe if you want.
Maybe check the intake every now and then to make sure oil isn't introduced into the system.
Might be time to get a catch-can.

The RX8 holds about 7 liters of oil total.
But you only drain about 4 quarts from the pan.
This is because the oil coolers are not drained.

Had an interesting day.

Went to park mazda akron for an oil change since I was in the area. Found that my car was missing a recall for MSP16, something about lack of power at idle or some such. They tried to do it after the oil change, but their device could not communicate with the car. They tested it on a few other mazda's (not 8s) in the garage and it worked fine. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a special device they need for the 8?

I have the service history and there are several PCM reprogramming listed, so I know its worked in the past.

I also found that the powertrain warranty doesn't expire until October, which is nice.

Annnnd, we ended up buying a new Mazda 6 for my wife.

The lesson here is to always do your own oil changes.

I pass one on my way to work every day. The guy sets it up just over the border into East Cleveland on Eddy road. You guys hay no idea how badly I want to take my license plates off and run the damn thing over with my Jeep. Oh the satisfaction that would bring!

I haven't been dinged by it yet, but I'm sure it's bound to happen in the future.

Take it to another dealer.
No reason why they shouldn't be able to communicate, especially since you've received updates before.
Cascade Mazda is closer to you than Park anyway and I've gone to them before.
When I wrecked my 8 they did a terrific job and the car still feels strong.

Heh, I bought the car from cascade and they told me all of the updates were done.

I only went to park since I stayed at my brothers place thats about 2 minutes away the night before for a card game.

I got kind of a bad taste in my mouth after the whole deal from them, but I may go just to see what they say.
