Ryans shotgun idea didn't sound that bad especially if you really think they would be bold enough to enter the house. If they are just in the yard though the dog is definitely the best choice. I hope it solves all your problems. You might want to think about motion sensor lights too; if someone is in your yard it will look like your flipping on the lights and you know they are there.

I actually have motion lights in the front and back, but they do no good when they attack during the day.
So far its always been during the afternoon in complete daylight.

A shotgun is very much so legal, John, and since it's only good from close range it is far and away the best thing for home defense. Don't have to be real good at aiming to take someone out with a shotgun from 5-10ft which makes it good for women who may otherwise not be real keen on learning how to shoot a pistol.

Now a sniper rifle is both generally ineffective in close quarters and not quite so legal.

Hey Jon,

Really sorry about your issues with the neighborhood urchins. I know I'm coming late to the party, but wanted to convey a few thoughts.

Initially, putting up the "No trespass" sign is really important in the event the dog takes a chunk out of one of the little bastards (and let's face it . . . we're all hoping that happens). Ohio's "dog bite statute" (R.C. 955.28(B)) is basically a strict liability one, which means that if your dog bites someone you are liable, period. There are two exceptions: if the bite occurs while the "victim" is committing or attempting to commit a trespass or other criminal offense on the property of the owner, or if the person bitten was teasing, tormenting, or abusing the dog on the owners property. So it's very important that you can affirmatively demonstrate that anyone on your property without your express permission was trespassing. I know this seems like a no-brainer, but a clever lawyer for the bitten brat would try to claim that the kid was a "licensee," (someone whom you did not invite onto your property but to whose presence you acquiesced because you he knew regularly traversed it). And the indignant parents of these little monsters will not hesitate to blame you rather than acknowledge the fact that they suck as parents.

Did you notify the Postal Inspection Service? 18 U.S.C. Section 1708 allows Postal Inspectors to arrest anyone suspected of stealing mail, and they generally take this sort of thing pretty seriously. Having the Feds show up on the doorsteps of the parents of the brats might get their attention.

Lastly, if you know who these kids are (or where they live), keep in mind that parents are generally liable for the willful misconduct of their minor children, though the damages are capped (it used to be $1,500). You can sue the little miscreants and their parents if you can identify them and have out of pocket damages (like having to fix a damaged fence). I'll even help you with the paperwork.

hey guys, i'm in need of some advice again. some of you saw the thread i started about the lack of power i was experiencing a while ago. since i got that brand new cat put on like a month ago, i began to feel that lack of power again a little bit, and ive been looking at things it possibly could be. and if i got all four plugs changed like 7k miles ago and two coils, do you think it could still be caused by the plug wires or the two coils i didnt get changed? just wondering because i really am sick of having no power when i need it and ive spent a lot of money trying to fix it already. i may look into that mazda zoom zoom carbon cleaner soon

Could be in your head.
BUT... I do have used OEM coils if you want to try swapping out the other two that weren't replaced.

well i wish it was in my head, but i dont think it is. i mean i was going up a hill on rt.82 and it literally just wont make it, even with my foot to the floor. idk im beginning to think it may be the two coils i didnt switch out. but someone else said it could be the wires but i never heard of that so idk. so two things,
1. how often do you guys swap out coils and plugs? and is there an upgraded set i could do to extend that period?
2. Jon when can i try out those coils? ill pay you if you want, and is it a big job to swap em out?

Coils have been reported to fail at a wide range of mileage so its difficult to say for sure.
I would like to test a "bad" coil to see where its failing.
Normally you would just test for shorts across the coil.

BHR sells Yukon coils modified to fit the RX8 wire harness.
Ryan and I are the only locals to install this upgrade.

I can bring them next time I see you. Not difficult to swap out.

I probably won't be able to make it to Montrose this weekend.

My mom is friends with a Realtor, so hopefully she can help me out.
At least I got my PO Box and the dog has been doing a good job so far.
A young kid who helped me identify the two brats that kicked down the gate said he heard about my mail being stolen and offered to get their names.
I normally wouldn't trust anyone in this neighborhood, but he did give me the names of the other kids so I could report it to the police.
So if he gets their names, I'll file a report with the Police and the US Postal Inspection Service.

It looks like they heated it up to about 500 degrees then threw a bunch of solder on it (literally just threw it on there) then tossed the bracket in an acid bath....

That's just terrible.

Thing is...it was broken...he repaired it with solder alone as I see no new metal. Isn't solder weaker than lets say the stock aluminum bracket? Seems like a pretty important piece to skimp out on.

yes, he may as well used a 2 part epoxy on the bracket.

It is a temporary solution to a permanent problem. It WILL break again.

Jon, sorry to hear about your problem with the little thugs. Getting the dog though, that should help immensely. Nothing scares the little wannabe gangsters more than a dog, except for maybe spiders. Of course, you may be a bit hard pressed to find a spider that big.
