Hey, its not like I didn't offer, those aren't exactly "gram lites" either!
Glad we were able to meet up and I hope they work out well for you.
No refunds.

On a lighter note, sorry I missed out on the fun in Montrose this weekend. I can't wait to hear about it.
I finished my my motorcycle project (a poorly done paint job to say the least - but the thing runs great after the winter tune-up!)
So I took the bike down to Columbus and purchased my "multi-use" vehicle!
It'll tow, plow, be my winter beater, and be a great tailgating vehicle for the browns games! And with a 5.8 liter, it'll pass everything except a gas station! AND I got the guy to 1500 bucks! (Cause this thing is ROUGH!)

The BHR coils are pricey if I remember right. TJ...I will be back out there on Wed evening for the VIP party for the people that helped out this weekend. If you want me to drive you car we can work something out. Pretty sure Jon is working tonight.

I bought coils a few months ago because I've never replaced mine, but they're ready to go when I need them. Unless my previous owner replaced them, I'm at 66k on original coils.
In my opinion, it would be cheaper to buy new OEM coils and you really wouldn't notice the difference for daily driving I bet.

idk about that. im on my third set, second for the two i didnt change. and montrose is the one who told me you should swap em out every 27k miles in rx8's. idk if they know anything about that car though, they flooded my engine twice.

but i just took it out for a spin for the first time in a week and its doing something for sure, noticed it does it easier when i have the A/C on. cuz it usually only happens when i push the car which is why it happened mostly on the highway.
feels like... my foots to the floor and its like all the gas is going in but its not all being burned. idk like i get the same acceleration from putting the pedal half way down just when i put it all the way the only difference is the horrible exhaust tone.

Just replace them with OEM coils and either OEM plugs or some aftermarket ones unless you plan on going FI in the future or plan on getting an AP or other aftermarket tuning device. Otherwise it will cost you a pretty nice chunk of change and the only thing you're getting is a nicely built, plug and play solution and coils that should last longer (and are backed by a BHR guarantee). You will gain nothing from the Yukon coils over new

Coils last ~35-40k and the Yukons should be able to go ~80k but they cost more than twice if you buy the BHR as much as a set of coils.

Speaking of coils - Danc you done with mine yet?

Ok. Quick intervention. Step one:

STOP LISTENING TO A DEALERSHIP. FORGET EVERYTHING THEY HAVE EVER TOLD YOU.

Get your coils tested before you replace them. Don't just replace them because someone says you should replace them. If you're really into preventative maint. then replacing them at 28k is fine (especially if its covered by warranty) but very few people have reported problems with coils under 30k. More to the point you have 4 coils, 4 plug wires, and 4 plugs. They don't ALL go wrong simultaneously so there's no reason to replace all of them.

feels like... my foots to the floor and its like all the gas is going in but its not all being burned. idk like i get the same acceleration from putting the pedal half way down just when i put it all the way the only difference is the horrible exhaust tone.
Try to get a little more information. Stop saying general things like 'foot to the floor' because that isn't very helpful in troubleshooting. Tell us what RPM you are at when you go WOT and if you feel the same response above 5k that you feel below 5k. If it's fine at 5k WOT then try it at 7k. If you are getting consistent response all the way from 1k to 7k then we can rule some things out. If you're getting shitty response only at certain RPMs then we can narrow down to possible problems in your air flow (stuck SSV, bad air filter, clogged cat, etc., etc., etc.).

Just try to get specific or it's going to be really hard to figure out what's wrong w/o being in the car.

No offense to the person we talked to the other day...or the dealership as a whole...but they didn't know #_$*(%&$% about the RX8. Not knowing about flooding, burning oil or that the RX8 had a wankle to me is pretty unacceptable.

TJ- Ryan just about nailed what I was thinking.
If you're on your 3rd or 2nd set of coils already, something else is wrong.
Even OEM coils shouldn't go bad that quickly/often.

Have you replaced the ignition wires yet?
I gave mine to Doc, but maybe Ryan can lend you his to try out (if this is an ignition related problem).

This struck me as odd:

With the A/C on you're under more load which should make it "harder", not easier to accelerate.

But like Ryan mentioned, knowing what RPM can help us too.
Maybe one of the intake ports isn't opening
Would be nice if someone made a DIY for checking the intake ports

Shouldn't you have to know how to spell Wankel before you bitch about people not knowing about it?

That was the owner of Montrose auto group. So he isn't even a Mazda guy yet alone a rotary guy. No reason at all for him to know a thing about our cars.

I was impressed he even knew about the Wankel.

Sorry...trying to type too fast here at work as to not get screamed at for something stupid and we use IE6 still so no spell check. Mah bad...

As for him being the owner of Montrose Auto Group...that sure isn't how he introduced himself. Maybe I misunderstood him...but he said he was just the owner of that location...and when he introduced the PR guy he didn't say My PR guy...he said the Montrose PR guy.

Feels like the same power at half throttle as WOT? God that could be so many things. Mine did that when the turbo was still bolted up and I put everything back to stock. You aren't running with a clogged cat are you?

alright guys bear with me here, cuz im gonna try and put all the details here. i just had a brand new (according to bedford maxda) oem cat put on about 150 miles ago, i checked the records and i think im on my second set of plugs, all were chenged out about 5k miles ago along with two of four coils which also were the originals. so i have two new coils and two original in there, warranty said theyd only cover two cuz the other two were ok to them. never messed with the wires so idk about those.
as for the problem, sorry about the A/C thing, what i meant was its easier to notice the problem with the A/C on because it is in fact worse than.
it usually occurs above 5k rpms if im like half way on the gas. anytime im at WOT itll do it, tried it at all different rpms from 7k to 1k and it does it.
the problem is that if im at lets say 4500rpms and i push the gas about half way to the floor, ill accelerate fine usually unti li get above 5-6k. but if i put it to WOT im not getting anymore power than i would be if i just kept it at about halfway to the floor, only change is the exhuast note gets louder than ever, i know its not just the way the exhaust is, and it sounds very groggy. thats al i can tihnk of to describe the noise. its just horrible. idk.
i used to only experience it on the highway when in 6th or so, then i got steves midpipe and it went away, got the new cat and was fine for a while and now its come back worse than before. cant even make it up hills on norma roads going 30. i start up the hill, start to decelerate so i give it gas and no acceleration at all even if i go to WOT. so i downshift and try to give it some gas slowly all the way to WOT and still usually no power. but if i downshift i can usuall hold a constant speed but if i dont downshift ill usually keep slwing down even with my foot to the floor.

so thats all i can say now, let me know if you guys want more details. sorry for the long post.

So just to clarify TJ, with Steve's mid-pipe you NEVER experienced this problem?
And this occurred with the "new" cat after roughly 150 miles?
To further eliminate ignition as being the issue, have you verified that the plug wires are all securely on the plugs?
Would also be nice to have a compression test done, but good luck trying to get the dealer to cover that cost.

Do you think it really rules out ignition though? This is a stretch, but do you think the spark is strong enough to get a decent ignition when there is no back pressure from the OEM cat, but not strong enough when the engine has to work harder to push the exhaust through the cat?
If it were weak ignition, wouldn't MPG be way down and the exhaust would stink and their would be some smoke. I'm guessing though.
That, and when my plugs went bad, which is ignition, it was like a miss, not just power loss like TJ is describing.
I also don't think the midpipe would affect anything if it was lack of compression.
Coils, wires, plugs are the easiest to change and the most common causes for these problems though.

So I feel like I'm cheating on you guys... I joined the Full Size Bronco Forums the other day and came upon this thread.
http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/...ad.php?t=62846
If you don't feel like clicking over, the long and short of it is that this guy observed slightly better fuel economy with the "Tornado". . . you heard me.

Also, it got me to thinking: we haven't really had a proper June meet yet, and with summer weekends filling up fast, we should get one on the calendar if we still would like to do that.
Just throwing this out there, but Massillon has a small car show in downtown every Friday night. It would be cool to roll in with 10 or so RX8s. I don't know if there is a cost to do so. If there is, screw it.
There is also a good resturant with wood-fired pizza and a full bar close by called Cosmo's. Its themed after Kramer from Sienfield.

But, that's selfish of me because I'm tired of getting speeding tickets on my way north for a meet.

as to my knowledge no i never did, and yes it has been occurring worse than ever before and it has been about 150 miles.
no i havent verified the wires are secure on the plugs, whats the labor involved with that since im mechanically retarded.
how much would a compression test cost? and i thought if i failed that then dont i get a new engine or something?
