What about the mid-pipe did your parents not like?
Was it just the sound or the fact that you were running an illegal pipe?
If it was just the sound, I'm not sure how quiet the RB pipe is since I've never heard it in person.
But I'm sure it is much quieter than what you had.

they didnt like the fact that my car wasnt "legal" with it on, idk why they care that much about it. they kept saying a cop was going to tow my car and i said he would never know.
the second reason was i kept complaining about headaches and they blamed the pipe for it which probably was partly the cause of it. so they dont want me to kill myself for a car is what they said. didnt care so much about the decibel level. my dad actually really liked how loud it was till i popped some flames with him behind me on an entrance ramp one day.

I'm sorry to say this, but any aftermarket mid-pipe will be noticeable.
After hearing your car for so long, I'm sure your parents can tell if the tone/volume changes.
And you can't hide the gas smell.

That'll be more fun than sitting around the house watching TV.
I'm watching Transformers 2 now trying to keep myself from going out to the garage and messing with my car.
I've been thinking about creating a DIY on removing the SSV valve and cleaning it.
Then when John mentioned fuel injectors, I realized that there wasn't a DIY for removing those either.
So now I have two projects racing through my head.

If you want to sell it quick, try starting at $150.
I saw a guy sell one for $125 pretty quick.
Another guy wanted $200 for his and he struggled with it.

Everybody need to congratulate Megan. She FLEW!!! in her car this weekend. I heard that she took second in the challenge event. I don't have that confirmed yet.

CONGRATS MEGAN BLOODY FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!

James Tyler (jamie) was frustrated by car issues but still did very well in Brian's car- he took 13th out of 83. Good job Jamie!

Steve is driving awesome for a newbie! He's really doing well!

Uh, I did well also (Took 6th in Pax). I'd have beat Ross if I hadn't DNFd at the finish (I tried to kill the timing lights- backwards....)

Megan ended up taking 7th in the challange, exactly .100 off of the fully prepped XP EVO. If she would have just pulled about .300 faster roughly on her last run I'm almost certain she would have been in the top 5 and won money. She got better and better with every run, managing to make it down to a 36.074 RAW time on the challange course. She was the last car out on course for the challange and it was eerily silent as she was running. When she crossed the finish line everyone erupted in applause.

I couldn't be prouder.

As for my car, well, the ABS was giving us problems all day, and I ended up getting so pissed off about it it ruined the rest of my day and I drove like ****. I'm going to fix that with a kill switch and a little less preload on the springs so the front end flexes more in heavy braking situations.

Steve is doing great! I'm glad you are enjoying it buddy. I'm still laughing about your comment... "But I wanna go fast NOW!!!"

And Doc, I was just finishing up the course and drivng through grid as I watched you kill an epic amount of cones and the timing light. It was spectacular. Other then that you looked pretty good out there Although, that spin was pretty sweet looking

Brian, I was going so freaking fast. I ran a 37.0 even with the backwards triple lyndsie with half pike.

If I could've held on, I'd have broken well into the 36s. It was so cool, that nobody yelled at me for killing the timer (actually a cone flew into it.)

Yeah... it was a fun event.

Funny thing about Meg driving is that she doesn't "look" fast because she controls the car so well. She doesn't spin the tires, doesn't go sideways, I think she did spin in the points run though... It was still fun to see all the really experienced drivers jaws drop.

Doc: thanks for your help, as always. Good to meet your lady friend.

Brian: you have no idea how bad I wanted to beat you and your car in the challenge. I figured with your ABS system being a turd and your suspension cranked down it would be my best chance... but alas. over a second ahead.

On the plus side I didn't spin out at all. but like Doc, I got a DNF for running over the big cones on the finish line, but I didn't hit the timing lights backwards, so I lost points for style.

Annddd, that car is running really well actually. Tires... well, I'll need tires someday soon.

Sounds like a blast. Gotta get back out there this month. I'll have to check when the next event is.

Thanks for the offer on looking at the dongle, Jon. I'm uploading some fuzzy pics since there's no way I could have gotten it to you yesterday or today. Should all of the connectors be the same distance from the base of the dongle? One of them comes all the way out (the copper base of that is even with the top of the red plastic). The other 6 are depressed so their copper bases are below the top of the red plastic.

If they should all be up then I can just correct that. You can kinda make out how much farther out the right one is here then the two on the left. The other side are all at the same height as the two on the left.

And anyone who's interested in the midpipe just let me know. Keep in mind it's a DR midpipe so it is basically as quiet as a healthy cat pipe. If you have an AP it will pass the emissions tests (which is really just a check for CELs even though they are supposed to visually confirm the cat they never do).

You'll never get pulled over for this unless you start shooting flames with a cop right behind you. You don't shoot flames unless you're shifting or laying off the gas completely and then hitting it.

Yeah, I have the V1 and love it. Trademark, have you actually owned a V1? I'm always a little surprised by the folks that think that they're over-sensitive, since it's easy as can be to dial it back. I did that and the way I have it set currently actually has me a little nervous. I'll probably put it back on "smart" mode.

It may be a moot point, since I don't think a new V1 with a warranty can be had for under $400. But in any event I think the 9500i is a fine detector as well. I've owned a few high-end detectors over the years (loved my Bels, but found them to be a bit delicate and got tired of replacing them) and looked seriously at the 9500i before settling on the Valentine. I'm absolutely convinced that I made the right decision. The arrows and counter greatly outweigh the (dubious?) benefits of the gps function, imho. Once you get used to knowing where the signal is coming from it's really hard to go back. I like knowing when their behind me, or that i can safely ignore a signal that off to the side.

Quick war story: I was on the Parkway in Strongsville and when I crossed Rt 82 heading south there's a cop sitting in the open. I picked up his K band radar long before I saw him. As I pass him he swings it around and lets me have it from the rear. By this time I'm now registering two signals, and the V1 is telling me one is the guy behind me that I just passed, and there's a second signal directly in front of me. Sure enough, there's a second cop much more well hidden than the first. With one of my old conventional, radar detectors I wouldn't have known there was one both in front and behind and accelerated as soon I was out of sight of the first cop.

My two cents.

I'm getting rid of mine: Rocky Mountain Radar c450. Claims to be a scrambler also. I have seen some of those automatic radar things take longer to register my speed, but I can't confirm that the thing is like stealth.

Most times I got the ticket the radar detector wasn't the problem. Like my cruise being set for a speed limit that ended in the previous state.

Thanks guys!! Complete surprise, but definitely pleased with the outcome :D

Doc: You looked pretty good out there, including the slide at the finish lol. I wasn't able to watch all of your runs but you seemed to scoot out there especially in the challenge

Brian: I'm really glad the brakes are stopping the car, just sucks that the ABS is potentially giving you more of a headache.. blah blah blah we already talked about all that. Thanks for all of your help the past 2 years, you're great!

Steve: You're really getting fast, quickly. You're picking up things very well, I was impressed when I got a ride yesterday

Can't wait for more events, I think I found a car that fits well... And all this time I thought it was the 8 that was a good fit. Hehe

Brian. Was this what you're talking about in regards to your ABS engaging constantly?

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=abs+engaging

You may have to reset your computer to get it back to normal if it decided that you (or your codriver ) aren't capable of driving the car responsibly.

Tho that report also says the fuel was cutting out so it may not have anything to do with your ABS constantly clicking on.

Thanks for the read Ryan. One post in that was similar to what happened to me, but the difference is that I had the system completely shut off.

Here's basically what happened...

Get in car, start car...
Push and hold DSC button until everything shuts off. (typical 7 sec hold)
Make my runs. I never shut the car off between runs so the system should have been completely disabled.

Going into the Northwest corner of the lot (opposite corner of the guardshack along Northfield Road) I was hitting, or right about to hit the rev limiter in 2nd gear. Seeing as how I have much better brakes on the car I was testing the waters to see exactly how late I could brake.

As soon as I would get hard on the brakes, the tires would lock and I'd release. But here's the catch, the ABS would kick on and not shut off, even with the removal of my foot from the pedal and application of said foot to the gas pedal.

I was literally going into a 110 degree turn with my foot on the gas and the ABS still pumping and the front end sliding.

This also happened in the afternoon session at the hairpin in the middle of the course. Jamie and I both have different driving styles and different braking habits and it was happening to both of us in the same exact spots.

It was almost like the stability control was trying to correct the car, but only after I popped the brake pedal. I only say this because the system was still pulsing (and pulising HARD) as I was turning the wheel with my foot completely removed from the brake pedal.

Like I said earlier, I have for the past few events been running with the DSC push and hold for 7+ seconds method.

I don't know.

One thought I have is that there is just too much spring force right now, and the springs weren't able to absorb some of the energy transfered in the braking, thus the tires and brakes became solely responsible. Overworking the tires caused them to lockup and slide and caused the front end brakes to carry the entire stopping load ( I say that because I felt the pulses coming from the front moreso then the rear) With a hard stuff on the brakes there is also potential that I lifted the one or both rear wheels off the ground and the ABS went nuts. ( I only think this because the Heller Corvette lifted both rear wheels of the ground on Sunday as a result of hard braking)

Might be that. I thought that even the 7 second switch didn't -completely- turn off TCS. You might want to start by pulling the fuse for TCS to see if it's that responding rather than your ABS. I vaguely remember one being completely seperate from other fuses while the other was intertwined but I may be remembering early readings wrong (maybe 1 fuse for TCS and ABS?).

Weird though. I have significantly better brakes on the track and my suspension with comps on didn't cause the ABS to fire at all last time at Nelsons but I have the stock w/o TCS at all. I have had the ABS fire on me at Mid Ohio last year when I was first trying out my track pads and its incredibly violent when it goes but I've never had it 'stick' like you're describing. I don't think I've ever heard it described as sticking. And while the suspension issue would be a difference between your car and BS autox'ers I've never read of anyone getting ABS locking with better brakes and better tires.

I believe one of mine pins was sticking out farther than the rest too.
Each pin is held on by one tab that prevents it from traveling back.
Pull each pin out with small pliers and see if one "clicks" into place.
