Time out guys. I'm not even sure I have this damn thing working yet. I'm just getting my blood pressure down to normal. I was really hot this morning. There's no reason for the **** poor service I got. Anyways,,,,,,

Yes, the AP can only be used on one vehicle. If you take it to another, it wipes out all the programming.

You definitely don't want me tuning your cars. I don't even understand half the abbreviations Jon was using..................

Really... I'm confused...
The nice thing about the AccessPort is that you can reflash your PCM and don't even need it connected to the OBD-II at all times.
Once its flashed, simply unplug it.
And I thought that you could store multiple banks for different tunes/flashes... so no need to worry about wiping anything out.
Doc... you are now the local "expert" on this so I'm sure you know more than me about the AP, but I am curious as to why it'll only work on one vehicle.

Hmmm...

» Not a "piggyback" - once vehicle's computer has been programmed by the AccessPORT, it can be removed and the settings will stay on your computer.

No.
So I guess you don't need to keep it plugged in (tho people usually do since it gives go on-the-fly diagnostics) but once it's flashed to a RX-8 it's married to it.

Seems like you should be able to get around that but this kinda makes sense since otherwise an entire club of owners could get one AP and share it.

EDIT: Wonder if that means you can never resell these? Only ones I've seen on the trade forum have been new and unused... That doesn't seem right.

Thanks for clarifying that RK!
I also thought that if it could be used on other vehicles, one local guy would flash everyone's car... I just didn't know how it "married" the device to the car!

Please don't use the "M" word. I've been married and divorced twice..............

You can't use it on a second vehicle or you lose all your tuning and have to start from scratch the next time you change something.

Divorce (removing it) is expensive and I don't recommend it to anyone. Too many headaches....................

Yea...people sell these all the time in the Parts for Sale section. It locks into a VIN with the program and in order to get to another car you have to dump the tune and start over.

I see... learn something new everyday!
I plan on purchasing one once I get the MazSport Ignition Solution coils, so I'll probably be bugging you Doc on how you like it...
and maybe give me some pointers.

I'd read through the discussion forum before you decide to buy it. I only got it since there were unknown mods to my car.

With the number of mods you've made, and your thorough knowledge, I'm sure you will make better use of it than I will.

See Y"ALL Tonight!

Hope Tony hasn't melted up on that roof..........uggggh.

Although i'm going to see you all tonight I thought i'd post my last sightings over the past few days.
1)Galaxy Grey Twinsburg Giant Eagle yesterday night around 7
2)Black pulling out of Lubestop or T-bell two days ago
3)V-Red getting off 480 around 7 and heading south on 91
4) Two different Black ones in Stow, neither guys seemed to notice me and both were going the other way

Anyways I'm about to head over to meet up with ShinkaRex(Ben) and wash our cars and then we'll drive out to the meet together. See you guys later tonight should be fun.

Yeah... I started keeping up on the thread when it first started (and even before it came out), but I've trailed off the past couple months.
I know MM started the Cobb Accessport Discussion in the EMS Forum section, I'll start reading up on it (with almost 3000 replies, I better start reading now).

No, I haven't melted. Almost, though. I decided that it was a bad idea to hop up on an all black roof with the temps in the 90's. Instead, I cleaned up my mess from the past week. Man was that a PITA.

That being said, I'll be there tonight. Count me in.

Nice seeing you all last night. Good times!

Like I said last night. Kinda cool to bring people from all different styles of life, different economic backgrounds, and different ages. All sharing a passion for ZoomZoom. It's a neat experience!

Next meeting is being set up for next month. Might try a place called Rush Hour over in Twinsburg. Time and Day tba.

ahhh... Rush Hour... good place!
When I worked 3rd shift, I would go there after work.
They have 26oz drafts for $1.00 from 7am to 11am!
Good wings, burgers, and fries!
I'm up for that!

Last night was fun guys. As doc said...it is really cool to hang out with such a diverse group of people. Unfortunately for me though...none of my pictures came out. I checked my settings twice last night so I know it wasn't that...but I have a bunch of black blobs. I left my P&S in the car though...so hopefully the couple I snapped before walking over worked. Hopefully the rest of the photos that were taken by everyone else came out because it was cool to see all those 8's together.

Well hopefully Ben's turned out well. My camera isn't a huge fan of the lighting plus I wasn't exactly trying real hard to get a good pic because there was a guy with a nice SLR shooting next to me...

First one's kinda fuzzy but the second isn't bad. At least now everyone else knows we were there.

Surprisingly my little camera phone took decent pictures.
The image was dark, but after playing with levels and histograms in Photoshop, it turned out decent (for a 2MP camera phone).
Only problem is the finger print smudge on the right half side of the pics.
Oh well... next time I'll probably bring a better camera.

Great DeViLbOi... the one good shot you got has my car sticking out further than the others so you can't see the other two cars!

Damnit d00d...learn to back that **** up. :P Nah...the only car missing from my shot was my own. Steve, at least I think it was Steve, showed up after the picture was taken. Hopefully Ben will be up soon and can post his. If his didn't come out I vote that we go out there again tonight for a retake. :P

GOOD NEWS! The CobbAP works!

Seems to start smoother. That's the only real difference I've noticed. Also seems to run a little leaner. Heard some knocking for the first time. May have to go up to 93 octane gas from the cheap stuff. But that's a known thing from running leaner. Also, it's so hot and humid. I was expecting that.

Got a new toy to train for Autocross with. A GPS track timer. It uses GPS to track your route and times around the course. Should be a great timing tool. To see which lines are quicker. And if it "feels' quicker, is it really.

Hope to see some of you at Lakeland today. I'm bringing 'da boyz...........

Just got back from Lakeland. It was another good time, except for the heat. Thanks to Mark and Beth for racing, and thanks to John for stoping up to photograph (assuming his camera worked this time..... )

I'm anxious to see the results from your GPS thingy, Mark. Does it draw out you route or something? I guess I'm a little confused about the way that it presents the data. I can understand the timing thing, but not the actual GPS. I agree with what you were saying about swapping it between cars too. That would be pretty neat to see.

Got my shifter and clear corners installed today. Now that I know how to do it I can probably change the corners in 10 minutes (tho the reflectors will still take some time) and the shifter in 20. Anyone ever gets either and wants help with the installs let me know. Feels great knowing I can take apart so much of my car w/o busting it up - and manage to put it back together again.

Planning on doing the Puddle lights next weekend.

^^ We pick good days to work on our cars... nothing like 90 degree weather (I don't have a garage).
I just changed my oil and filter. Went with the Royal Purple 5w30 and the K&N Gold filter.
I was gonna wait until the midpipe arrived to do the engine, diff, and trans oil all at once, but my oil light came on... so there was NO waiting for that!
