More displacement means greater gains from power adders..

Example: I have two focuses. The ST that you were at my house for the engine replacement... 154hp (at the crank) stock. I put turbo on and with the magic of tuning and a few other tricks I pull (still keeping all stock internals) I put down 300whp and 280 ft/lbs of torque. Calculate drivetrain loss (we'll say a modest 10%) and that's 330hp at the crank. You don't need to be a math wiz to figure out that that is 176hp more than stock.

With a large displacement engine and a proper fitted turbo with a good tune you can easily net 700hp. But it all depends on your engine AND budget. Large displacement doesn't always equate to huge horsepower. But if you pick the right engine, the right turbo, the right tune, you can do it. It's more research then just arbitraraly tossing a V8 into a miata and sticking a turbo and a blower on it.

To put it mildly you can get an engine out of a Z06 and turbo it and pull 700hp (not saying it's going to last, but it can be done). BUT, in a miata, it's just plain dumb, and unless he tubs the rear he'll never get enough tire under that thing to put the power down.

Sounds like a typical "ricer" mentality. Instead of working towards a goal of a fun car to drive, he'd rather through out some astronomical number to "shock and awe" people, and the whole time not realizing what it will take to get to that goal. I hope he's got deep pockets.

I'm thinking of doing a Seafoam treatment tonight now that I have my SSV actuator all hooked up again (last weekend's project) - who's in?! We should line up all of our cars and video them all blowing clouds all at once. We could sell it to the Seafoam folks as a promotional video! "The official RX 8 Seafoam team" LOL

I really should Seafoam/ZoomZoom clean my car... but I'm busy this weekend so I can't tag along.
We should have recorded TJ's car when we did his... that was a lot of smoke.

And FYI... Seafoaming will not clean the SSV or its runners/passage.

Short of dismantling the top of my motor any way to clean up the SSV? I'm about to turn 100k and I'm sure it is dirty dirty dirty....

Removing the upper intake manifold will only clean 1/4 of the valve... and that's just the outside of it.
Spraying down that passage will not clean it fully and you really need to remove the valve completely.
Just ask Steve... we cleaned his through the top at first which worked for the summer.
But then it started to seize again and we had to remove it completely.

Its not that bad... give yourself about 3 hours total (includes time to clean the SSV with a q-tip).

It'll give you a better understanding as to why you really need to remove the valve.

As long as I am avoiding grading....anyone have stainless brake lines? That has been on my to do list for a while. are they worth $100 and a few hours?

If your car is just a daily driver, I wouldn't worry too much about it (but still nice to have).
If you plan on auto-x where you will be pounding the hell out of the brakes, then its worth it.

Brian has SS lines he bought from Ryan, and then he was nice enough to install some on my car. I felt a difference at autocross. firm pedal (after we got all the air out.

Appreciate the help... but since mine will be for a detailed DIY, it'll take longer than usually while I write down all the bolt/nut sizes and take still photos that will also be used in a printable PDF DIY for others to print out and have with them.
