I drive a Focus with a big ricer wing on the trunk in the winter. I think it has a really big vacuum leak right now though because every time I step on the gas I get a strange high pitched whistle from under the hood..

Thanks for the welcomes all. I should be more accurate - I drive the 8 all year long. I put Michelin X-ice 2's on and it runs fine. My wife drives the Speed 6. She also gets the garage. The price I pay for traveling overseas on behalf of Uncle Sam.... LOL

was running late for work today, passed a red RX8 getting onto 271n (Sorry i didn't have time to wave lol if it was someone here)
Also sorry for not posting for a while, been busy as hell working 7 days a week. Clutch seems to be holding up good though! Slave cyl may need a replacement... and im pretty sure my cat is beginning its death.
Stig, your a fashion prof at kent eh? I'm down in kent all the time... Technically im a student there but i've stopped taking classes for the time being to work. I still find myself down that way at least once a week.
I see a granite RX8 down there all the time, any idea who it is? I saw him pulled over one night, ironically i got pulled over the same night and cuffed and stuffed in the back of the cop car - dont worry they let me go without even a warning. =)

Stig, I'm over in Shaker. My 8 is completely stock right now - Black Grand Touring - I LOVE heated seats!
Trademark - what is that, the "catch and release" program? LOL

they thought i was drinking and driving, frisked me down and everything, gave me a field test at 3am.... apparently i failed it. Then i blew a 0.00 on the breathalyzer like 30min later.
BTW... this was on 44 in matua... bored state patrol officer i guess
And apparently he forgot his license to hunt or something.
I was not speeding for the record. He even told me "Your speed was fine"

OK so I'm still getting some rough low idol and it feels like a misfire but then seems to be fine once it gets above 4k RPM. This is what I've done so far:
-I pulled the plugs and cleaned them off with some Seafoam and a toothbrush, they were not in bad shape really.
-Checked the ignition wire connections (could probably be replaced after 102K)
-Checked the ignition coil connections
-Cleaned the battery terminals
I got an EGR valve code a few weeks ago - does the 8 have an EGR? So I'm thinking it is a sensor some where, the CAT has given up and is giving the O2 sensors bad readings, or the O2 sensors are bad.
Any Ideas?

if you're running OEM wires at 102k. . . change them.
Plugs are harder to tell. I've put close to 30k on mine and they've been in for about a year now with no problems. But others haven't had such luck.
Coils are prone to failure too. However, a rough idle could be a number of difference things. A broken motor mount is a popular suspect too.
A bad miss will give you a flashing check engine light and occur under load. A miss under idle conditions isn't a big deal and probably isn't anything to worry about.
By rough idle, do you mean the car shutters a bit, or RPMs seem to fluctuate up and down and the car can't seem to hold a steady idle under 1k rpm?

I need to flush my coolant also, anybody got one of those pressure flusher thingies. (Do we need one?)

Are you flushing it or changing it?
When Jon and I did mine, i burnt my hand a bit. Its easy to drain from either the engine block or radiator.
We just drained mine, "flushed" it with distilled water. Then filled it back up with 70/20 for summer driving.

Got an email from Mazda of Bedford today. They just got a 1979 RX7 in and wanted to know if anyone was interested...
Merry Christmas John,
I hope everything is going well for you. I wanted to shoot you a quick note on a car we took in on trade. 1979 RX-7 in red 107k on the clock. Unmolested, 1 owner, all original. Was in Atlanta until 5 years ago when the owner moved to Ohio. He put the car in storage every winter since moving here. We have it on the floor at 8,000.00.
If you know of anyone who might be interested give me a shout.
Thanks,
John Martin

So today I reset the ECU using:
both of these and it seemed to clear up the weird idling and lack of power below 3.5-4k RPM. I gave it two drives up and down Lakeshore Blvd and it seemed to be much better. We'll see after a few driving cycles tomorrow. I'm still going to replace the ignition wires soon.
That won't clear the KAM and can do some other funky things if it isn't complete. It will also erase your radio presets and clock settings.
There are two reset procedures, one for the NVRAM and the other for the KAM. Neither will erase your radio presets and such like the method SpooledUp7 posted:
1) With the key in the off position, press and hold the odometer reset button and turn the key to on;
Continue to hold the odo button until the odometer reads "TEST" and then release.
2) Turn the key to off and repeat step one.
This will reset the entire PCM except the KAM which contains the sensor profiles amongst other things. You can reset it with the familiar procedure:
1) Turn the key to on
2) Depress the brake pedal rapidly 20 times in a row until the oil pressure gauge sweeps to halfway and back again.
