Mr. Riot: let me know how the coils work out.

Stig: I have your wad of cash at home. I never counted it, but we'll work it out.

And, there seems to be some interest in "install meets": Jon is coming down to my RX8 Holding Pen this sunday to help fix my thermostat housing gasket and do some other odds and ends with my car. (new front brake lines and probably change the front calipers.)

I'm going to get there Sunday morning and get started on the brake lines as best that I can, so let me know if there is interest.

I received an email back from Jeff. He is asking for a compression test, ignition coil test, and if the injectors have been upgraded. And suggests i ditcht he interceptor and get the Cobb AP.

Now i ask, for 1 what would be the easiest way of testing the coils? 2 when would who ever knows how to test the rotary compression be available to do so, and what would i need to get to be preparred, and 3rd, are the injectors easy to access to compare? per say get a look at mine and see if they are the same as the ones on the engine out of steves that was pulled a few weeks ago.

any suggestions would be appreciated,

and if i did change ems', where would i even start to try and sell the interceptor? any ideas?

1) Stock coils or those Mazsport ones?
2) Jon just got a compression tester so you are in luck
3) Injectors can't just be looked at. There should be part numbers on the injectors. Get the part numbers and report back.

4) as for the interceptor and selling it. Try ebay. Not many people here use it. You could put it up in the FS section, but AP's have much better support so you may be hard pressed to sell...

jeff only asked if the coils i have were in good condition. There are aftermarket wires there, but from what i could see the coils were still stock, i could be wrong, i just saw a black box. Ill go crawl under it, get numbers and such.

also another question to rack the brain.

jeff stated that the AP was way better in every way, provided the turbo system retains the functionality of the mazda OE sensor package. What would he mean by that?

Vyndictive,

I'm interested in Sunday, but will have to make sure I don't have other plans. (translation: need approval from the wife). I'll let you know either way.

How many miles do you have on your 8 Turbo (sorry I suck at names too...)? Your stock vs aftermarket coil thing is going to be pretty important because of the output.

As for your injectors they are somewhat important because of their flow rate. You need something with good flow to make good power. He is probably looking to make sure that when the turbo was installed that they were upgraded so you can make the best numbers possible with your car. If they haven't been upgraded I am going to say Im 99% sure he will tell you to upgrade them before getting a tune.

26k range for miles. im currently digging and digging for diagrams to find the injectors, i tried just looking with a flash light, couldnt find them, or over looked them. and its cold outside.

while looking i discovered i already have the rx7 plugs, so those are probably shot, considering ive had it for 3 years and havent changed the plugs yet. the wires are aftermarket, but the coils are not.

so, it looks like i need to start saving or sell my soul.

BHR ignition, new upgraded injectors, all fluid changes, probably switch out the interceptor for the Cobb. possibly new sensors if needed. Air filter recharge, wich isnt an emergency, but still something that can be done.

ive also found a pdf service manual, will come in handy.

im sure im missing a few things that could be done, just fried brain with all of it at once.

Black05Turbo8- Pic below shows you where the injectors are:
Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-fuel-system.jpg
Above the ignition coils you'll see a red disconnect... that is your fuel line so just follow that.

You can test the coils with a meter (IF YOU DO HAVE THE OEM COILS).
If your coil(s) have a resistance greater than 2M OHM, you'll need a good meter that'll read that high.
I have a fluke meter if you need to borrow it.
Measure terminals A (+) B (-), 0 ohm (infinity) is abnormal
Measure terminals B (+) C (-), 0 ohm (infinity) is abnormal
Measure terminals C (+) A (-), 0 to several kilohm (continuity) is abnormal

And definitely listen to Jeff for any recommendations on your turbo application.
He has tuned with many EMS units and knows which is the best.
Its always better to change the actually table (with an AP) than to "trick" the data being sent to it (IntX).
I'm sure Jeff could explain that SO much better, but because the AP actually changes the PCM tables, you can modify other aspects of your car that just can't be done with a piggy-back system... like modifying the OMP rate for example.

And we'll try to setup a date for the compression test.
I might be booked the next couple weekends.

Thanks for the pic jon, thats the same one i found, so i will try again.

now from what i gather stock injectors are as follows

P1 - 290cc
P2 - 380cc
S - 380cc

Now say i slide factory 380cc in both primary and juice up the secondary with maybe 550cc. would increase the fuel load. thats my idea, i could always see what jeff has to say about it. that is after i figure out wich ones are already there.

and as far as the AP, i would love to just get it, but 600 bucks is a pretty good chunk for me, considering the BHRs are gonna run around 500, injectors are looking to be 45 each for the factory 380cc, and i found 550 set for 200.

now its possible to find cheaper im sure. but one thing ive learned. with cheap parts come problems. wich result in headaches and buying the more expensive later. so may aswell buy the good stuff first.

ill keep looking step by step.

but for certain im probably going to need the BHR set and the AP. so right there is 1100. and all my money trees arent growing in this weather.

Well, hoping to be able to do the install this sunday... I'm fighting off some mystery illness that is causing a frightening amount of greenish yellowish goo to come out of my lungs.

I should be all good to go by the weekend though.

I believe they call that Cantonitis™.

EDIT: According to WebMD the only cure is an extended stay on a tropical island.

Serious question.

IPhone vs Blackberry. Must be able to tether to use phone as modem for internet access.

Primary uses of phone:
1)Phone (duh)
2)Texting and email
3)Internet access (on the phone itself, in addition to tethering. this is BIG)

Your input is appreciated.

Oh boy... this can turn into an ugly conversation...

If you want a fun phone with cool features and applications, go with iPhone.
Blackberry was design with business in mind, plus I like having a physical keyboard.
The iPhone has more storage, RAM, and faster processor (good for all those fun apps).
A lot of people buy the iPhone for this reason which I think is stupid.
That's like buying a car with 5MPG simply because it looks cool and has a nice stereo system.
Not to functional for what its designed for, but the extras draw people in.

Me personally... I get a cellphone to TALK to people, so I want one on a reliable network.
It doesn't help the iPhone is on AT&T which sucks my *****.
The Blackberry is on Verison which is number 1 in reception (you can get it on other networks too).

You can't say my opinion is based on what I own because I have a Nextel on Sprint network.
Just an unbiased opinion from personal experience and previously working for a cellular carrier.
Let the disagreements begin...

Doc: Devilboi has the iphone... so he's got it tricked out with all sorts of neat stuff I'm sure.

I have been using a blackberry with work for over a year. I keep breaking the trackball in their old models by getting grease and oil and other gross **** in there... So I would advise against a trackball model. (however, they're very easy to change and clean. Most verizon stores give you a new trackball for free)

I have never used the tethering, but I always use the internet on it. It does pretty well... I can't reply to PMs on the rx8club on my phone, which sucks. But Im able to watch youtube videos when bored, and for checking news, scores, or emails, its very very good. I revently switched to the full keyboard and I can't type for **** on it and its been a couple weeks. I'm not going to say the keyboard is too small... i think my fingers are too fat. So, make sure you can use it.

I have little no interest in the iphone because its not very good at its primary function... being a phone. Its more of an itouch PDA thing that sometimes is used as a phone to talk to people.

My thoughts.

The new Blackberry Curve got rid of the trackball thank god...I have the same problem with the trackball getting dirty and breaking so I cannot wait until I'm up for a new phone in April. Blackberry messenger is addicting just like the phone. I have seen that Iphones have an application that can do lap times, 0-60 times, and g-force monitoring, apparently it is very very accurate too, but I would rather have a functioning phone and good network and non-touchscreen phone personally

i just got the droid last week and so far it has been a pretty good phone. you have to have a gmail account though to use the phone, which i had anyways. checking emails and txting is easy, just had to get used to the way this phone does everything since its so different from my opld phone (LG Dare). havent used it to go online yet other then to check my facebook page...... ok i just tried going online with the droid and its damn fast. if you want to have a full keyboard get the motorola droid otherwise you can get the eris droid which has a virtual full keyboard.

I've been curious about the Droid also. . . Interested to hear how it holds up. I use my phone a lot now that I have no cable or internet at home.

My job gives me my phone, so I need to wait until the phone becomes either a free upgrade or pay the difference. Verizon is rumored to add the iphone in the near future also. . .

my friend is a salesman at verizon and i was waiting for the iphone to get there but he said its going to be atleast another year or so before verizon gets it. right now the droid eris has a $100 mail in rebate on it and you might wanna call and ask them how much you get for an early upgrade. i got an additional $50 off for my early upgrade, woulda been $100 off but i didnt want to wait till june. as with the iphone you need to pay extra for the data package which is $30 each month

Hey Doc, just one question. why would you want to use your phone to tether? It is rather slow and most phones need geeked for it to work for now. Most blackberris can do it if the software is played with, aswell as Droid and iPhone.

But with verizon, you can get the USB broadband plug that uses your cell number as a connection to the internet. Faster and safer, because if you make any of the data phones able to tether and it breaks/fries, they wont replace it, even if you have insurance on it.

not sure if other carriers have the USB broadband, they would be stupid not to.

i personally get a phone to text and talk. i have 3 computers, 2 in my room and one for my brothers, i dont need a computer phone, id just get a netbook and put it in my pocket for that.

you can also get a netbook with a preconfigured verizon broadband, wich when setup would us your mobile number. i do believe another carrier is in cahoots with the netbooks, but i mostly stick to verizon, better coverage, considering i live next to cows.

You can not tether an iPhone without hacking it and voiding all kinds of ****. AT&T also frowns upon it heavily so don't let them catch you. Droid allows free tethering and also has a lot of features I wish the iPhone had. Multitasking and Tethering come quickly to mind along with the physical keyboard on the Motorolla phone. However once again, they have gone with function over form on their phones and it is one UGLY SOB.
