Because Mazda named the piece the "Upper radiator shroud" it is illegal by class rules for STX to remove or modify the piece for any reason because it's not part of the intake system. So thanks to that guy, everyone with that intake on an '05+ Miata and an RX-8 have to either get a different intake, or reroute it so it's legal.
The only intakes that you can legally run without modifying them, are the short rams that stay inthe engine bay, or the RB without the duct. The ram air duct for the RB intake is also illegal because of how it has to pass through that radiator shroud.
Way to go Mazda, and way to go SEB. dicks

Selfishly. . . . Brian, do you know how long that dye will stay in place from the leak? Like I have to run the car to get the dye through the system... then remove the air pump and battery box I'm assuming to gain access to the thermostat housing... so will it linger long enough? or will it dry like the water and not leave any trace?
Also, for your issues... if you're thinking its a MAF, I have the one off the donor if you'd like to trouble shoot with it.
. . .
I'm liking this sadly. . .
Jon's Car: window or something is messed up
John's car: Shifts hard
Brian's car: Won't go fast
Steve's car: pees out coolant and smells like rice
On a related note... NORA Driver school is April 11th.
------------------
Shipping advice:
Doc or anyone else: Have you guys ever had to ship anything large like a transmission or say, 13B engine block? I'm going to ask about it at fed-ex when I ship stuff out today, but I'm curious as to what carriers you used for freight and what would be the best option. Honestly, I'm sick of getting no interest in it on the forum and will probably put them both on the 'Bay.

My car doesn't shift hard...just was hoping that the "Bolt action" of the SS would be less noticeable with the new fluid and instead it is more noticeable because of it.

Steve: It will stay around for a little bit. Ideally you want to check the car while it is leaking, or right after shutdown for best results, but considering the facts at hand there is not much you can do otherwise.. Personally what I would do is remove the battery box and battery, and run the car with the battery hooked up via jumper cables. That way you have a better view of the thermo housing.
John: The intake won't technically be in the engine bay. The filter will be where the stock sock is, basically right behind the Mazda badge on the front bumper in the area of the hood release. SO while technically it won't be a CAI anymore, it will still be a more free flowing intake that sounds pretty.

Brian - Ah...okay...I thought you were gonna put the filter where the airbox goes.
Steve - It is everything that they say that it is...but I just don't see the benefit from it that everyone else does. And while sometimes you can't visibly tell if you are in 2nd or 4th...I am never confused on when I am going through neutral with either the stock or short shifter...so why do I really need to feel it as hard as you do with the SS?

If you could swing downtown, that'd be ideal. I'm in the building with the large Lebron James picture : lol. I can come out anytime and meet you somewhere if that's easier too. Do you have my cell number?

Hahah gotcha. I'm at the corner of prospect ave (NW) and ontario. The building name is landmark office towers. If you want to give me a call on your way into downtown, I can meet you out front of the building.

Jon, whats the proper procedure to connect the AP to the car to datalog, or at least read what the sensors are doing? Do I have to vin lock it to do this? If so, is this like other software that I have used wher eyou can only lock it to so many vins before it locks itself and then you have to send it to the manufacturer and pay to get it unlocked?
I'd just hate to screw John over if it has been locked to just enough vins and this would be the last one.
Sorry for the newbish question, I'm just not familiar with Cobb stuff. I've delt mostly with SCT.

There is a menu option that will unmarry the AP from the car. However, I think you just need to plug it in and go to the Troubleshooting section to get the info you are looking for. No need to log anything.

John, Megan just said that she has an AP from you. Thanks buddy. Gonna check the **** out tonight, I'll post up what I find. I owe you a virgin daiquiri with orange slices or 3. hehe. I'll get it back to you asap
Jon: Anything in particular you want me to look at that is piquing your curiosity? I may call you tonight if you are free. What time would be a good time?
Also, fyi, Megan didn't know how small the APs were. She said, and I quote, "Awwww it's soooo cute!"
