I wouldn't think too hard about which catch can to purchase.
No need to get a huge one either since you shouldn't have much collected anyway... its more of a preventative item.
I like the cans that either have a clear tube or "window" on the side so you can visually see the fluid level caught in the can.
I also like the idea of installing a breather onto the can instead of routing the hose back to the intake.
Obviously... you'll then need to cap the intake fitting.
And make sure it comes with some kind of mounting bracket unless you want to fab one yourself.

haha well summit is way far from me so ebay is my choice...sorry if this sounds dumb but i have no catch can experience and i agree with getting a breather but what exactly do you mean by capping the intake fitting?

Summit is not that far away. If you time it right you can even have a mini car club meet there over a bottle of Royal Purple.

Catch can is simply a container placed between the oil filler neck and intake to capture the oil (if it enters the hose) so it doesn't get into the intake.
You can route the "exit" part of the catch can to the intake via another hose or install a breather.
If a breather is installed, you'll have the fitting on the intake without a hose and it'll cause an air leak.
So you need to cap the fitting because of this.

hahahaha ok ok...i wasn't even thinking about the intake side of things because that is just so obvious...i was thinking you mean the intake fitting on the catch can and was really confused as to why you plug it therefore negating the need for the catch can in the first place...much clearer now!

Summit is far from Avon! That would be like a 2 hour trip for a $20 item lol

Well... after a couple years of working on cars except my own, its finally time to focus on that before the list gets too long.
With that being said... who is in the mood to drop a transmission!

It was a pretty slow day at work and I had time to really think about my shifting issues and I think I know what is wrong... the pilot bearing.
Couple reason I think this:
1) When we changed out my clutch and flywheel the disc was centered when we attempted to install the transmission.
When we noticed the disc wasn't centered, we also saw the oil seal was nicked.
The bearing appeared OK, but it was difficult to tell and we couldn't get it out because we didn't have a slide hammer.
Dealer was closed at this time so we couldn't run out to get one (if they even had one) so I decided to risk it and install the transmission.

2) I started think about what happens when I shift.
If I shift too quickly, it'll grind or not get into gear.
If I press the clutch pedal and wait for a good 2sec, I can get into gear no problem.
If I'm at a stop and I shift into 1st, I can feel the car jump forward a little bit.
This occurs with all gears.

Unfortunately... if I had to take a logical guess on what the most probable cause was, it would be the pilot bearing/oil seal.
But if I'm wrong... I'll have to drop the transmission again to swap it with the donor's (if Steve sells it to me).
I could say, "**** it" and replace both... but then I wouldn't know for sure what the problem was and that would bother me.
I'm open to any other opinions on what you feel it could be.

That would have to go freight. I haven't shipped anything that heavy. You might also put shipping it up for bids on UShip.com. I've had them transport cars for me. Truckers with partial loads will bid to transport your bigger stuff on the cheap. But you won't be able to do that until you get a destination.

Probably wouldn't be for a couple weeks.
Want to wait for the weather to stay warmer so we're not dealing with the cold.
I also want to purchase the slide hammer (not cheap) and an installer tool (kinda like a punch) for the pilot bearing and seal so I don't **** that up.
Then I need to find a place... can't do it at my complex.
My dad's garage is possible (where we did it last time), but the space it limited.
But this really is something that should be looked at right away because if it is my bearing and it suddenly seizes, I could have a lot more troubles/repairs to deal with.

Jon - Feel free to bring the car down to my dirty shop if you'd like. I know I don't have the tool selection you do, but I have the heaters and the space. And worst case, you can leave you car here for a week if we don't get it done (obviously myself or someone else from the North would give you a lift home).

This is the one I bought... I also wrote the the DIY for installing this particular catch can. . . Its small and shiny, bling bling!

That's the route I went. The other catch cans are just too big in my opinion. But, its also not as cheap as other cans. . . so its up to you.

Jon, sorry I didn't get a chance to call you last night. By the time we got done with dinner it was already like 930. I didnt' end up getting home till after 10 and at that point I had no ambition to go outside and dick with the car.

Good news though, the traction control light turned itself back off and I can rev through the entire rpm range at any percentage of throttle.

Bad news is I still don't know what caused it. I'm almost leaning toward a wet air filter misting the MAFS as more air is being sucked in causing the car to tell me to eff off.

Glad its working now for you Brian... hopefully it doesn't return.
But when you have spare time, I would remove the "hump" hose and see if water has collected there.
That was the most noticeable place I've seen a good collection of water near the MAF.

Glad your car is working again Brian. Hang onto the AP though in case it rains here in the next couple days. The rain can't be a coincidence though. Other things to think about would be wires. Ive had other cars where the wires would be bad enough that they would arc once it got humid enough in the air.

Jon - Im down for any weekend to help out but the last weekend in April and the first week of May.

You've never mentioned before that you've owned a Bronco...

That truck does that about once every 2 months, makes it not start... no spark.
