I went to the one on central in toledo. I asked for the printout but they gave me his writing on the receipt instead.
I wouldn't have thought twice if the specs had been correct
I called them and they want me to call back when the tech is back from lunch

Nice.
Its a pretty simple install... just take your time and verify the wires are connected to the correct plugs (and you don't mix the leading and trailing plugs)

It depends on how busy they are, where you are on the list, and if they have some already pre-assembled.
But no.. I don't recall how long it took.
Hey I just remember... when will I get an xbox in the mail

Ok smart guys i need help. Ive decided that 100 dollars to update the firmware on my radio is worth me figuring out how to do it myself and offer it to others on teh cheaps.
Obviously the first question is how.
How do those that can flash these things do it.
Do they have something that can up hook right up to the back and flash it or..
Do they have to open the thing up and either de-solder or take out and eeprom to flash it(slightly justifying the price)
Lastly;does the factory even bother flashing these? How do they do it or do they just say no to customers wanting IPOD integration.
Id its got anything to do with me getting a 9.55 firmware, dumping it, and flashing it onto my own im pretty positive with some help i could get it done
thoughts?

If it was possible to flash the HU I would have done it.
I had to buy a used HU with the firmware to use with my Axxess iPod adapter.
I still have my original HU laying around.
John tried calling his buddy at the dealer to see if they knew of a way, but he got transfered to everyone and their mother's son and got nowhere.
And I haven't heard anything here on the forum about doing it.
But it could very well just be a prom chip, but you still need the chip to swap with (and at that point you might as well just swap the whole unit).

Could you tear it apart and be sure that its just a prom. I'm thinking its gotta be something that can be written to if services like those from mazdaparts.com exist.

Sure... but programmed components may not be easily identified.
Some manufactures (like Rockwell) label their programmed components since different proms can share the same raw component part number.
And some aren't dips than can just be pulled out of sockets.
Many are J-lead or gull-winged SOICs and need to be de-soldered.
Of course all this is only necessary IF you can find someone that actually has a prom burner.

i kind of assumed it would have to be de-soldered in order to be taken out (but who knows)
Find what kind of chip it is and we can talk prom burners.
all im saying is some random dude on here did it and now this company does it. why cant we.

And with this being such a huge deal for people buying the metro kit, I assume that it would have been passed along thread-to-thread that this option was available.
But all I've read is that you need to buy a used HU with the appropriate firmware.
