best place to buy exhaust gaskets?
need both gaskets for the cat because im leaking exhaust like crazy. Even worse i have a racing beat catback and where the rx7store straight pipe meets the catback, they dont line up. The best i can describe it is like a V being closer together at the bottom than the top. Im gonna try new gaskets and hope that fixes my leaks.

just ordered from mazdatrix. When replacing the midpipe did you guys keep the springs on there or did you ditch them? i tightened the bolt to the point that the spring really serves no purpose in an attempt to resolve my exhaust leak without success.

The springs do go on the car when you replace the cat with a midpipe.

Some of us (such as myself) ditched the shoulder bolts and springs.
But we are using regular metric bolts, washers, and nuts.

Maybe the car knew I was putting the cat back on this weekend for Toledo and decided to turn the CEL off for me.
So it was off for ~50 miles but on the rest of the time? Reading are cyclical so it might have just caught a cat-like reading once and shut off the cel. The 04's sensor settings were a little less sensitive than later models so they flipped on and off pretty routinely. They were tweeked enough that a rare '04 8 could run catless w/o throwing the CEL.

Maybe you just caught a brief whiff of green friendly exhaust.

And Steve you can shut off specific CEL alerts like the one thrown with a catless pipe so you could get your AP and it would keep you from not paying attention to the CEL light that shows up in the unknown future indicating that your car is about to implode...

So for one rotor to be full of gas and the other to be dry points me back to lack of spark. You check the coil side of the equation...coil and wire connection? I would also push the fuel out of the flooded rotor by jacking up back of the car...leaving it in gear and turning the wheels and letting the fuel puke out of the plug hole.

It will only dry out the rotor face that you have exposed to the plug hole. And how the hell did you put 25K miles on your car in 2 months? My God man!

I think he meant he inspected them in March but that they have 25k total miles on them. Even for Steve 25k in 2 months would be pretty phenominal.

Now I can say 'You only drove 25k since 12/08?'. With all those trips to Berea, akron, Northfield, Macedonia, Youngstown, and other parts of the Greater Cleveland/Akron/Canton area it feels like he's traveled twice that.

Do I win anything?

Okay... other input on the paper weight formally known as my car.
Brian, you mentioned this first, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense...
Vac leak?? It would explain how suddenly it seemed to occur and how the car can't figure out how to steady its idle or anything. And it also explains why there isn't any gas smell from trying to start it over and over again if there is wayyy too much air in the system and the ecu can't run rich enough to compensate for it.

Any ideas of what vac lines would seem to be the most likely to fail?

Well... you have a vac line for the VFAD, one for a vacuum chamber that supplies the SSV, VDI, and AIR solenoids, and one for the purge solenoid.
Don't forget the maintenance ports.

Brian- You and Meg still going to the PA meet or has the "Fury Man" intimated the cocksmoker?

"The Fury", as he calls himself, did not intimidate the cocksmoker. Besides he's not even going now, which further solidifies my point that he probably doesn't even have an R3, and I have never seen one around here. ****, the boy can't even figure out how to post pictures on a forum, yet he boasts a stable of previously owned car that total upwards of 100 grand. Anyways, I might actually have to bail as it depends on if I can get tires and have them mounted before Saturday. My fronts are corded right now with a hint of steel belt coming through, and I know there is not enough life left in the tires to make the trip unfortunately.

I'm suppose to be picking up new tires for the 8 sometime in the next day or two, it's just a matter of if I can get them on in time.

And Steve: Check all the fat vacuum lines, like the ones coming from your catch can, all the ones that run to your intake, and the ones on the UIM. There is a possibility that the rubber has dry rotted and broken through, and even though it may appear that all lines are connected there is a massive hole in one.

If I can get the tires mounted and **** I'm still in. Its just that I've been pulling 10+ hour days at work and hardly have time to do anything afterwards (except go home and down a few beers)

Trust me I still want to go, but the tires are telling me otherwise. If all else fails I may have to take the ST out (but I srsly hate that car)
