Vacuum leaks get picked up by a CEL. Not always immediately but quick enough you would have gotten it by now. Take that red cap off of the VFAD line entry to the engine and see how fast it throws a CEL.

I'd lean toward ECU problems or fuel starvation. Your description sounds a lot like what I'd always feel whenever my ECU was reset prior to it getting calibrated. If for some reason it's no longer calibrated or if it's just failing I'd think you'd see the same things. You might want to do a reset.

Cleaning your fuel cell sock might help if it's starvation (as would a new pump). You'd see it more when you autox if you're throwing the car side to side on a low tank but it would show up elsewhere.

Also could be a symptom of bad fuel. You using 93 from BP/Shell/Sunoco or going cheap?

Ryan, I had asked him about fuel already and he had filled up Friday before the event. I would figure by the time Sunday came around and he drove all the way from Canton to Northfield, if it were bad fuel it would have reared it's head by that point.

Now, you can have a vacuum leak big enough to keep the car from running, but not trip a CEL. The pcv hose on my hatch dry-rotted and I managed to blow it apart when I went into boost. It pretty much instantly killed the car once I let off the gas (very similar to what happened to Steve) I was unable to keep it running due to the large vacuum leak, but it never tripped a CEL.

Not saying that's the case with Steve, but definitely something to consider.

But if it's the sock or the pump then it can be starving even with a full tank and it would be inconsistent based on the pumps performance or whether or the clog on the sock, right? I would think the effect would be the same as the low fuel cut outs people experience on the track with the 04-08 fuel pumps. It wouldn't explain misfires but if those are serious enough that he can hear/feel them then there's a pretty good chance those would be triggering CELs.

Well sure you can not trip it on a Ford. Pretty sure you could remove a piston and the Ford sensors might not pick it up for a week. But touch the god damn ABS speed sensors in a Ford Explorer and the thing becomes undriveable. Maybe that's just my Explorers....

Yeah. All of it probably needs to be taken into consideration but no CELs and inconsistent poor engine response from throttle sounds fuel or spark related. Either that or engine related and I'm trying to ignore that because I know Steve's already thought about that.

Just a thought too but Steve have you checked your air intake and filter to make sure it's clean? I would assume the MAF would pick up on that and throw a code but as long as we're looking at random possibilities that might as well get included. I think that's everything I can think of that would have this affect. Course I did just name almost every component in the car so value added by me = 0.

I got two of mine yanked last year (two to go this year). Yanking wisdom teeth has come a long way apparantly because I took one painkiller the night of and then didn't have to take anything again. Hopefully yours goes as well as mine.

Course one of my stupid wise teeth was infected so maybe in comparison to that it didn't hurt...

Kristen works friday night and saturday during the day. So she's out.

Friday, I actually forgot I have a 4 week night class on Tuesday and Friday nights. God willing, i'll be out of there by like 8.30 or 9, but I'll be in Berea. I'll call and see if you guys are still there.

As for saturday... . . Anyone need a co-driver? It says high chance of rain, otherwise I'd be on the motorcycle. Which looks much better with a proper paint job on it now!

Ryan: I was just making reference to him having bad gas. Given the lenght of time between his last fuel up and when the problem arose, it's safe to say that the fuel quality is not a factor. I have not made any speculation in regards to the condition of his fuel pump or sock.

Hey guys how is everyone? Sorry i havent been on in awhile. i fried the motherboard on my pc. Im currently typing this message from my palm pre.

The 8 is still garaged. Still the same issues.

Brian - What would be the easiest way to see if the wastegate is opening or not. Ive checked every line and connection. So im pretty narrowed down to either the wastegate wont open or the boost controller is fried. wich would also cause the wastegate to not open?

The BHR coils are amazing. No more stutter idle. It still bounces around. But it doesnt stutter. And starts a tad faster.

When changing the spark plugs. i found that i had been running the same plugs i baught to replace them. The rx7 plugs. I went to 3 auto part stores trying to find spark plug spacer for the trailing end plugs that needed shimmed. But after i recieved 4 stupid looks and a bunch of "use washers". I didnt feel like playing hide and seek with washers that would be the right size to fit the plug and not get in the way of the plug going in the block. So i took the crush washers of the old plugs. Then took the new washers of the new plugs. Old crush washer then new washer back on new plugs. To give it some sort of spacing to bring the plugs out of the block a bit.

As far as the meet friday. Wont drive the 8. Id rather not blow it up running it that far with 10 psi running throught the system. And the s-10 would have a heart attack. It barely makes it 20 miles before it starts acting up and the oil pressure is bouncing between 20 and 40.

Nick- You can purchase washers at home depot, Lowes, any other hardware store around.....
Those RX7 plugs only required a 2mm thick washer... nothing special.

Easiest way is with (2) people.

One person in the car to stab the throttle and make boost. The other person needs to have a clear view of the wastegate actuator to see if the arm is moving to open the wastegate.


OR, you need to find some way to pressurize the wastegate actuator with the car off to see if the arm is opening the wastegate valve. One way is to possibly find a way to hook up something like a tire pump to the actuator and force air into the actuator and see if the arm moves. The onlyl downside to this is you will have to find a way to measure the amount of pressure you are applying to the actuator, because it may be stuck and not opening the wastegate at say 10psi, but if you apply 25psi it will open. So without knowing how much pressure is being applied to the actuator, you won't be able to make a good assesment of the condition of it.

Basically when the blood clot that is suppose to fill the hole where your tooth was gets destroyed and the hole is left unfilled and exposed, thus taking longer for the hole where your tooth use to be to heal. It can cause some pretty intense pain and **** too.

It sucked for me when I had my wisdom teeth yanked 6 years ago. I couldn't smoke or drink for a while. Although, I did keep myself quite looped off of the basically unlimited refills of liquid hyrocodone. So it kinda evened out.

i see that 8 a few times a week. usually around 6:50 -7am on my way into work. they cross over jackson street as im going down jackson to grant st.

im thinking of showing up tomorrow if you all dont mind. just for some beers though since i dont like chilis food.

Yeah it was rare...definitely not normal to see that many but I did tons of driving around today for work so I would consider the amount of driving I did today and the nice weather contributing factors to seeing 4 in little old Avon
