Yeah, its weird, I knew about both of those events and I knew you're registered yet I threw out those dates anyway... What was I thinking.

j/k buddy.

I'm actually going to be up in the fingerlakes the weekend of the 23rd for some hippie festival Kristen makes me go to.

I think we'll shoot for the 18th then. I'm up to try a new location if anyone has anything new and exciting to throw out there? Coming from the south, the distance is all the same to me, really.

Hey Steve, do you want to co-drive my car with me this weekend on the 4th since Jamie isn't running?

j/k buddy

Srsly though, I don't even know if I'm going to run yet. I have to make that critical descision to the unanswerable question "is the mount going to hold together long enough to make those runs and back to Youngstown?". It's a tough call as of right now. Hell, if I can't get the mount in time for Finger Lakes I may be running a Subaru in FP...

Just tape it... it'll hold. I think many people drive with broken mounts all the time. Is it just torn or completely ripped off on the top?

Because I looked at the June Calendar.

And because I want to be able to include you.

No seriously... looked at the wrong month. Doesn't matter to me, I'm flexible.

5/8 - 3/4 tear around the top. When I checked it monday it was only 25% torn, now it's well into the 65%+ torn. Pretty sure all the oil has leaked out of it as well...

I'm just worried about causing undue stress on the other side as it is still 100% in tact. I don't want to ruin the drivers side as well.

It sucks because I want to run and get just a little more practice before Finger Lakes, but at the same time, at what expense?

I can have it overnighted that's not a problem.

The problem is I don't want to drop$100 on a rubber mount + overnighting it to make it here by friday when I just paid a **** ton of bills and it will leave me low on cash. Get paid Friday so I'll order it next week for Finger Lakes.

Plus I don't want to put it on my credit card either or pull money from the savings just to get it here this week for one main reason: It's just a local meaningless event. I'm not going out of my way to make an event that in the grand scheme of things, doesn't mean **** other than practice.

EDIT: lol @ postcount.

Hey everyone. sorry not stopped in for a while. i hit the lounge and then out. i have this section subscribed to so i always see what's happening in my inbox on the following day.

figured i'd pop in though and say hi. Was thinking i'd not been to a get together since munchkin was born and wondered if we had anything planned.

As for the mark on the windshield, if you can't get rid of it with a little elbow grease, take a ballpeen hammer to your windshield and say a rock hit it. insurance got ya covered.

Anyway, here's a pic of my daughter celebrating her 6 month birthday. Yea, been 6 months already. sorry doc, didnt have any guinness in the house. I dont like it if it's not off the tap, so it's a rarity we have it on hand unless a guest brings it. but hey, at least it isn't some wrteched NASCAR beer.

Nope, lol.

As it sits right now I'm driving something with more drive wheels and a lot wider, sticker rubber.

Potentially the same with Finger Lakes as well. Probably pulling out of STX and going into another class... This way I can at least save the 8 for the Toledo Pro and I don't have to worry about rushing to get her back together and rushing to get parts here...

I don't think you want to run my car. Being in a prepared class with a mostly stock car does not sound like fun.

You mean you can't make a single posture work for 60 seconds??

Its not like you're driving cross country here... just pour yourself in.. deal with your knees at your chin; tilt your head to the right 40 degrees. (open the sunroof) and then use your peripheral vision.

Then you are using a helmet that is too small and sticking off the top of your head too much

At most the helme tshould only add about an inch to an inch and a half or so to the top of your head.

If adding that much puts you in such a position that you can no longer drive the car with a helmet on, how the heck to do you drive in without a helmet on? You must have one hell of an uncomfortable driving position.

Also, I have met Jason Saini in person and have talked with him on several occasions. Reason bringing this up: he is tall. Another reason: He autocrosses an R3 when he is not racing in the World Challange. If he can fit, you can fit.

Just curious more than anything..

Not trying to start a fight or an arguement, its just you always seem to have a different reason why you can't run. If you don't want to autocross that is completely fine, and no one will say anything otherwise. I just know there are ways around your situation if you really did want to give it a shot one time. I would be more than happy to help you out and try and figure a way out to get you behind the wheel of your 8 with a helmet on if you reallyl want to give it a shot

So my driving position goes one of two ways...arms bent into a good driving position with knees against the dash with less than a finger between my head and roof...or...arms straight with legs in a good driving position with about 1" between my head and roof. Jason and I are about the same height from what I remember hanging out at MidOhio and the R3 has those racing seats that sit lower but aren't wide enough at the chest for me to drive comfortably. While I would enjoy driving with you guys at both autox events and MidOhio/BeaverRun...my limitation has always been, and continues to be, not being able to fit in a safe driving position.

One of the things I was interested in checking out this year was doc's race seats. I believe they will give me enough room to race...however...with me having a sunroof and him not we determined it probably wouldn't be a fair comparison to do with doc's car.

Last year I contacted Jon over at BullitProof about how your seat was lowered. He stated that the only thing done to your seat was the stop was moved. This allowed the seat to make about 1/4" - 1/2" more of travel. Since I don't have this verticle stop that you have from your automagic seats he said there wouldn't be much he could do but re-engineer the bracket. So I looked at the seat bracket and found that it can't really get any shorter. This left me with the option of carving foam out of the seat which isn't all that thick to begin with. It really needs to be a dish that drops below the rails which you couldn't do by just altering the OEM seat.

If you can think of another way I am all ears...

haha yeah I'm 6'3'' and have trouble finding a good position to drive because I'm all legs and the steering wheel is either too far away or too low to heel toe...so if its hard for me its gotta be way more difficult for you lol

John, you'll never get in my car. I have the race seats bolted in fixed position. You can't modify the manual stock seat brackets. They don't come apart. I tried. I have XL seats and I barely fit in after custom brackets.

Hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday!

I got to spend time stripping and painting my spare brake calipers.
My driver's side caliper is seized so this was priority #1 for me.
Didn't like the red color (sorry Steve) so I had to get rid of it.
I used Aircraft Remover to remove the paint... which is some NASTY **** and if you get a speck on your skin, it'll feel like a hot needle.
Steve, in a way, talked me into painting them something other than black... so I decided to try silver.
I'm taking the bolts and pad holders/clips to work and dumping them in our ultrasonic cleaner.
So I should have everything reassembled and ready to install by next weekend.
I just hope the silver looks alright... but that just means I'll have to get around to doing the rears sometime.
But here is a pic... not too bad for my first time...
Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-brake-calipers-silver.jpg

Oh... and I bench tested Steve's thermostat (or should I say "stove top" tested).
I feared that it stuck closed and that may have contributed to his failed motor... especially when 20% of the valve's outer ring was covered with blue RTV!
But the valve opened just fine, which gave my access to remove the RTV.

Think in a couple weeks I'll swap my trans with the donor's.
So I sense another DIY video coming...

Nice on the calipers, they look great. Silver looks nice and clean without drawing too much attention to them.

Did anyone happen to save the card board box that their exhaust came in? I am having trouble sourcing a box large enough to fit my Agency power catback in.

The box mine came in got loaded with the racing beat exhaust when I sold that many moons ago.
