Hey Steve I need your savvy internet selling skills. I got my CF spoiler in today and need my old one sold. I'll give ya 25% of what you can get for it. My new one is at the painter now and will be mounted sometime next week.

Yup it's an original evo 8/9 spoiler. I know the whole wings don't do anything until 80 MPH debate crap but I disagree. As soon as air moves over and under it it's "functioning". Now wether it affects the car at certain speeds is a different matter. That depends on the cars airflow over the roof stiffness of the rear suspension even if you have a head or tailwind. Truth is nobody knows when an evo wing starts to work on an rx-8. Our roofline is lower so the wing gets more air quicker. Our cars probably have a better drag coefficient judging by the shape. But none of it matters to me because I just love the way it looks it's different and makes the car much more aggressive looking than the stock wing, which I didn't have lol! I don't care one bit if it's functional lol wasn't a criteria for me but it just happens to be.
The devil made me do it

What matters the most is that you like it. Whether it is actually functional at any speed or looks like a giant park bench hanging onto the back of your car really doesn't matter. Just be prepared to take **** for it over and over again.
So back on track...I assume you have thought about the pros and cons of having said wing on your car. But after previous conversations of needing .1 second per run based on your wheel size don't you think you could be faster without the large parachute hanging onto your car?

Never really got **** about it. The shopping cart joke here and there but many compliments. But like you said as long as I like it who cares. As for Autocross if i get to speeds where the wing has an effect it will be minimal. And so will the drag be. The drag increases with the downforce because the wing disrupts the air behind it. With the low speeds of Autocross except for the occasional long straight like we had at event 2 I doubt it will barely matter.

And the main reason for wanting 17's instead of 18's is mostly about price. The difference in price between each size in wheel and tire is gigantic. It just happens to have a slight advantage going smaller in size. I'm nowhere near good enough yet that I need to squeeze every single tenth out my car. I'm gaining seconds still just by getting more experience. Last event my best time was an 89.something. the car in the right hands could have probably done atleast an 84 or 85. I'm definitely not good enough yet that I'm running the course perfect AND have perfect speed and breaking. So far the car is better than I've been able to drive it.
Trust me, you're wrong

I guess someone who refuses to race and comes up with every possible excuse to not do so will not find the logic in reason behind shaving that extra tenth of a second off your time. But I digress...

Nah the angle of attack on the wing is so low it cuts through the air until the pressure builds up high enough to make downforce. Then ur making noticeable amounts of drag. That's the compromise every racer has to make. From go karts to formula 1. Grip or straightline speed. For me neither applies yet because of the slow speeds and the limited effect of the wing. Now if it was adjustable to a high angle of attack then there's a lot of time to be won/lost. In Autocross mechanical grip is key not aerodynamic.

Either way though Danny, in the defense of the rules, per the February Fastrack, effectively immediately this year the only allowable wings/spoilers for ST* classes are either factory ones, or those offered to you in the manufacturers accessory catalog.
Having said that the only options for the 8 are:
1) no wing/spoiler
B) factory wing/spoiler
III) Mazdaspeed spoiler
Now that I have said that, for local events it won't matter that much. We have a standing rule with NORA that if the modification is not too big of an advantage and the other competitors in your class are ok with it then you can run it. This is why I never really pushed the issue with your wing not being legal. That and the fact you are new. Haha
If you were ever to travel to a national or pro event and the rules for areo are written as now though you would have to remove the wing or run an *SP class. The RX-8 is currently classed in BSP which it is a severe underdog because the class is mostly shrouded with very high horsepower EVO's and moderately high horsepower STI's.
Food for thought.

In all seriousness though I knew the wing rule and I would never intentionally "cheat" as it were. When it comes time to go pro I will take the wing off for the event. Even though my car is stock I chose to run in stx because it is a mod even though I'd do much better in cs? Pax wise. I'd rather give myself a penalty than have an unfair advantage even though the wing is illegal in both classes so best for me would be cs. But I'm just not that kinda person.
If there's ever anyone complaining about my wing let me know and I'll take it off for the event even though I love seeing it in the pics online lol!
.... yes Steve I know you have a stock trunk with spoiler .... j/k

I find it hard to believe that the frenchies wouldn't cheat. Damn cheese eating surrender monkeys. Lol
And yeah, Danny you learn real quick. If you bother Steve enough he may sell you the truck at a foreigner discount. Do you know the exchange rate, or do we need McGraw to google the wrong information for you? Haha

Danny,
I would be able to sell your wing. We'll work something out in the near future.
Also, I do not have trunk with OEM spoiler anymore. It sold.
Per the drag question... I don't think many of us are at the point where our cars or bolt-ons are slowing us down. For nearly every person in here, its a case of the driver slowing the car down by driving poorly.

^Agree... yesterday was fun (expect for the close "peeing" encounter). Still dealing with a hangover now.
