Bah. He was probably doing 10 mph.

Besides I don't know about him but I have mad knee driving skillz.

After work I went to Doc's to pick up the brake pads.
First I will say this... I am now scared to arm wrestle this man.
He doesn't use a floor jack, he uses one arm!!!!
I didn't know we had The Incredible Hulk near us!
Sorry Doc... I still say that you are secretly fluent in Photoshop!

Since it was nice outside (remember I have no garage) I decided to do the brakes this morning.
I attached a couple pics showing the incredible wear on the brake pad and the damage it caused to the rotor (plus its better than my camera phone that I used last time).
AND YES... I had to show that a C-clamp is still the best tool (old school baby).

My rotors are scheduled to arrive Wednesday, so that swap will take place next weekend!
I'll also need to completely remove the caliper assembly because my bottom float pin seized again.
So I'll need to spend some time with that and I'll take pics for the DIY.

Wow. That is one messed up rotor. Yuck.

BTW - let us know what you think of the ceramics once you get it all put together. Still waiting on John's report. He noted it is 'interesting' but curious if it's more responsive/less responsive/etc.

Oh...sorry...didn't know I was checking back. They are more responsive than OEM and I think the interesting feeling was because they were brand new. Took maybe 2 days to get used to them being more responsive and for them to wear in, but things are back to normal. I don't know which made things go back to normal feeling though. I do know that when you mash on them you do stop a lot quicker though.

And as a side note I ran into that GG RX8 again on SOM. Nice looking female driver with red/light brown hair in a bob cut. Still didn't go all creepy and follow her like you guys had suggested in the past. Maybe next time.

Very Rarely am I ever accused of being "smart." I've tried to make that as clear as I can to everyone. Jon, you've seen that first hand after I burned the hell out of something under the car with the torch.

Bah. He was probably doing 10 mph.
I was doing 3k rpm in 6th. . . so however fast that is... but note how I am in the far right lane. I think it was 77N somewhere... Fairlawn area I'm assuming.

Tiresmoker: those pictures are great! It looks like the one is def. post donuts with the snow in the rim like that. I think a dark colored 8 looks very nice with a little snow here and there.

Jon:. . . umm, pull me out too?
and if you're bored waiting for your new rotors to arrive. . . you could always paint your calipers!

Anyone need anything from Summit? Looks like I'm heading down there tomorrow after I get my wheels put on. Forgot to order locks for mine and Summit's the only place that has the locks that match my lugs. Stupid place charges $15 for s&h. Good thing I'm going to Stow to get the wheels put on.

Ryan - The guy that was parked next to you at the autox came over after you left with a receipt of yours from Summit. Did you want me to hang on to it until we meet up again or did you want me to shred it?

Musta floated away. Feel free to throw it away. Thanks.

Had fun today. Probably regressed a little from a couple weeks ago but felt my last run, at least, was getting back to where I'd left off. Plus it was kinda fun to see what my car could do when pushed (badly).

Think I ended up around 43.7 or so on my final run. About 2 seconds off of Mark's (rx7 mark - not Doc) time and he was the one I was gunning for in Index.

What is the comparison between the FA and your 8? (ie all things being equal where should the 8 be with the FA)

Nissan GT-R encounter

I feel the need to share this:

So friday afternoon I'm cruising up 77N right by the akron-canton airport on my way to Kent.

I see, for the first time on the roads, a new Nissan GT-R. He's doing 5 under in the far right lane (babying the car a bit I'm sure.) So I am checking out the car. Took a photo because I think the *** end of the car looks lame. And then went on my way.

I guess this person thought it was time to show off and got right behind me (like it had to be 2-3 feet off my *** at 70mph) So I let him by. Only to have him stay behind me at that close range. So I get back into the left lane and when it narrowed down to 2 lanes merging on to rt 8, I just matched speed with some mecury tracer type car and locked him back doing 52 mph. It was lovely.

When 8 opened up to 3 lanes, he took off down the right lane doing 90ish I'm sure. His temp tag flappin' in the wind. . . about 5 minutes later, right by the mall: Pulled over. Awesome. Karma.

So, to recap. My first time seeing a GT-R... it was driven by a total dumbass who didn't care about the car so much as picking fights. And, what is the true great equalizer of cars? Speed limits and traffic laws.

. . . and then I found 5 bucks.

Dunno. If you took out the driver component he was on light, wide r-comp hoosiers and I believe he's done a lot more suspension work than mine. His engine is NA but he's gone catless so our engines are probably comparable - mine probably has a few extra ponies. But he's stripped his car out so it should be a fair amount lighter. Removing the driving aspect he probably should be able to beat me by ~1.5 seconds. If my tires are better than I think - no one uses them so I have no idea how they rate for autox - then maybe closer to 1 second or less.

He said he was just struggling on the course. The BSP Triumph that was running in index with us was beating Mark by almost a second and I believe when they both drive their cars well they usually run pretty close to each other. In the second session I was about 3.5 seconds behind the triump and 2.5 behind Mark.

And FWIW that triumph was putting up numbers just behind the big, bad Vette.

Normally I would say this is just too mean. I've had people do this randomly to me for no apparant reason. But you, otoh, gave the guy an opportunity to pass you and he tailgated you instead so I think you were completely justified.

That the tard got his Sooper Dooper Datsun pulled over is just a classic finish. You should consider posting this in the lounge for others to enjoy.

The ultimate perfect ending would've been if you could have gotten him to notice you snapping another photo as you cruised by.
