Not because of the 414 WHP recently published (cause I have no desire to run 13PSI), but because its mounted in front of the engine instead of mounting it next to the exhaust manifold.
I just wished it worked with the AP, but maybe it will in the future.
But I still have another year to do some in depth research before making my decision.

Any particular reason why you care where it's mounted? Just to keep it away from other heat sources or is it for ease in maintainance? And I didn't think BHR had spec'd their turbo design yet or is it a sure thing that it'll essentially match the MM upgrade design?

We're basically on the same timeline. In the end my decision will be based on the power curve. If BHR can get the same graphs that the MM upgrade gets it'll be hard to resist.

Well hopefully Ben gets one of them. That way we can see if his car blows up before either of us shells out the cash? (cue evil laughter)

Both.
Even though its attached to the exhaust manifold, the radiant heat from that side of the engine will warm up the air to the intercooler more if its mounted on the side (remember our girls standing on that side to keep warm during a meet at the Winking Lizard).
I'm honestly not sure how much more this impacts performance, but I like the theory.
And as you mentioned, its easier for maintenance (MM's kit you need to raise the motor just to get it out, though I read some can do it painfully without raising it).

You're right, the BHR spec could be different than MM's.
Luckily I'm in no hurry now to get it and we can see what develops in the next year.

Found the old spec thread for BHR:

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ight=BHR+Turbo

Full kit.
Modified manifold and downpipe, intercooler, all piping, modified AEM CAI, Garrett 3071r turbo, Synchronic BOV, oil and water lines, hoses, hardware, fittings, couplers, clamps and a pre-programmed AccessPORT.
Brand new.
And there's a few other threads that seem to note that the design is in a bit of flux. Nothing that states where the final location will be for the turbo kit.

I keep saying GReddy but pretty sure the upgrade was for Honeywell Garrett and the new snail shell is coming from GReddy. Not sure if that's because GReddy uses the Garrett or if there's some relationship I'm missing. That thread and others seem to interchange the two.

Damn. I need to quit talking about this before I accidently email Ray to get on his list.

Like I said, still have another year to consider.
But if Esmeril doesn't have an AP map by then, that *could* be the deciding factor for me.
I really want to have the option to use/program the AP with my turbo.

Couldn't you re-pipe the turbo wherever you wanted?

Esmeril uses a custom exhaust manifold design, so its not a simple as "re-piping".

Might be a long shot, but does anyone have a 1-2" internal pipe wrench I can borrow?

Here is my problem:
I'm replacing the drainage pipe for my upstairs bathroom because it was 75% clogged.
I managed to remove all the 1.5" pipes all the way to the vent stack, but the last nipple pipe that goes into the stack broke.
I tried a monkey wrench with a breaker bar, I tried torching it but the cast iron stack pipe is dissipating the heat, I tried a flat-head chisel to compress the pipe inward but it ended up splitting the exposed pipe.
I was going to try a 35-TPI hacksaw to cut it from the inside and use pipe sealant to "fix" the threads on the vent stack, but I would like to try an internal pipe wrench before doing that.
I'm a little light on cash right now and can't afford $70 for one, so I'm hoping that one of you have one I can borrow.

jon, i'll take a look. i have several pipe wrenches. not sure what you mean the difference between a monkey wrench and a pipe wrench, since they are basicly the same thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipe_wrench

Thanks Doc...
An internal pipe wrench expands within the pipe itself instead of wrapping around it like a "normal" pipe wrench.

Jon - i just checked out in the shop - we don't have anything that small for an internal wrench. I guess the shop doesn't have everything...

In other news... today is the court date for speeding ticket numero dos. Got my tie and stuff on, ready to go see what I can come up with. I'll be sure to let you guys know.

Anticipating if things go badly... has anyone taken a defensive driving course to reduce the points on the license? Info on that may be needed shortly.

Thanks for checking.
Good luck in traffic court.
You can ask the judge if driving courses to reduce points on your license is an option.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

I'm happy to see that you're all still here shooting the breeze. While I'm here.....

I had the first "I miss my car" dream of the off season a few nights ago.

It was kind of like those dreams where you're about to give a speech to a large audience, everyone's laughing at you, and you look down only to realize that you forgot to wear your pants.

Instead of forgetting my pants, though I showed up to run a race and I forgot my helmet. I would've been ok missing the pants, but without the helmet I was totally embarassed because without it I couldn't drive.

With that said, and now that you're all looking at me weird, I'm out.....

Hey all, hope your turkey was moist and you left overs plentiful.

Court:
I pleaded not guilty and have to go back up there to speak with the prosicuter to let him know what I want to happen. Basically, it sounds like I'll dictate what the "compromise" is and he'll make it happen. I'll offer to pay a fine if they drop the points.

If they say no. Then I'll drag it out some more.

Offer to pay court costs, and hold an offer to pay the fine as a fall back.

I took my son deer hunting this morning for the first time!

He had the time of his life. We got a small 6 point buck in the first 45 minutes!

Go Bucks!

Not to draw away from the Bambi slaughter pics but my Cobb AP ships this week and my BHR ignition kit allegedly (99%!) ships on Monday. Jon if you're right behind me in line you'll hopefully get yours next week as well. And I'll be off next Friday and bored Saturday and Sunday so if you have free time and want to help put the kit in my car first you know I'm game. I may even let you touch the AP.

This whole RX8 in the garage thing really blows chunks.

I'm off next Friday-Sunday so I should be free any of those days.
Since I get off work at 6am Friday morning I could swing by afterward if you want to do it early (shouldn't take too long).
Or we can wait until Saturday to do it (I prefer to have Sunday free to spend with the wife before she goes to work Monday).
Let me know what works for you.
