Anything I should know about driving an 8 in the winter?

I am planning on buying an Rx-8 at some point in the next few weeks. (I plan in putting winter rims/tires on) Right now I drive a mustang gt year round and its not bad in the snow as long as you don't drive like an idiot. So I was just wondering if there is anything in particular I should know about driving an rx8 in the snow?

I've just been through this debate! Basically if you get the car with the stock tires, you need to get some different tires on there for winter.

The stock tires:
1. Don't do well in the cold (as we have up here in NE)
2. Don't do well in snow

The question now remains whether you buy tires to mount on the existing rims or get a whole new set of rims and tires (17") altogether. I'm sure people will have ideas about that. For starters see: https://www.rx8club.com/ne-rx-8-forum-29/newbie-do-you-really-need-snow-tires-rims-here-massachusetts-131000/

Good luck with the new ride!

Yup, sounds like you've got it covered. Lots of fussin' over nothin. If you've managed to survive winters with a torque monster you'll be fine in the 8. Winter tires (Dunlop WinterSport M3 - are awesome) or all-seasons and you're good.

Sounds like you already know, but for others: winter tires are mandatory. The summer tires it comes with don't grip well below 45ºF and are downright dangerous in ice or snow. Like walking on ice with smooth-soled dress shoes instead of a good pair of boots.

I am prepared for my 5th winter in the 8. I have Blizzaks on 17" rims, and have never had any problems. I live in Maine! We are expecting 6-12" of the white stuff tomorrow afternoon and overnight. I get a look of evil glee when I see SUVs slipping and sliding and I am tooling along just fine. You have it right -- drive moderately and you'll be fine.
