Hey guys! I've been posting on these boards for quite some time and just came across this thread. I'm in Columbus myself. Live up in the Westerville Area right off Schrock rd. Anyway, I'd love to get together sometime to show off our cars.

I'm from So Cal, so I'm used to driving the twisty back roads. So far i havne't been able to find anywhere fun to enjoy this well balanced vehicle so maybe some of you would like to show me a good spot to open her up.

Anyway, I still have CA plates on my car, so if you see me, give a honk!

if you guys want some real twisty roads, come down to Athens! I got lost and foundmyself driving in some nice curves going up and down the hillside, but the only problem is i'm afraid of critters and the oncoming traffic. GOod thing I had my nav with me, otherwise I would have never found out how to get home.

Thats exactly what I'm looking for! What kind of critters are we talking about here?

Edit: Just realized how far of a drive that is, is there anywhere closer in columbus that has some nice twisties?

Used to be nice with little traffic, 315, just north of 270 had a good stretch of curves. However, now it's just heavy with traffic. Nowadays, anywhere in Columbus you're gonna hit traffic or construction. I suggest keeping it on the track at Mid-Ohio, or autoX, to be honest. Not worth the risk.

I've been kicking this around in my head. May 29/30 @ Mid-Ohio. Give it a look.

now that i look at their site it seems way too expensive. $50 membership fee and $200-350/day is overpriced. it should be about $300-$350 for a weekend. i was also talking to my dad about it and he wasnt sure the specifics but mid-ohio is resurfacing and there are potential issues with the surface. im up for an event with you guys, but maybe we should look elsewhere (putnum perhaps?)

kellybrf- anywhere sounds good to me.
On the side note, I was driving on 315 around 5:20 and saw a blue rx-8, anyone in here? He was nice enough to slow down(i was like 10 cars behind him) and waived.

well if i dont get my engine problem fixed i wont be able to do a track day. when its warm and im in high rpms (7.5k and above) my engine will cut out. i talked to md about it and they said its a known issue and theres nothing they can do. i wont take it to byers b/c i half mentioned it once and they told me mazda would consider it abusive driving and void my arranty. so as of now im pretty much out of luck

Wow - that's a crock! Did md try to do any testing or anything, or just throw in the towel? I'm really reaching the end of my rope with them - they've already lied to me twice. I won't go back to Byers for similar reasons. That leaves me with Fred's hell. Anybody have any experience with their service?

Kellybrf: I had a very similar issue several months ago. Mine would cut off at around 6k rpm and it seemed to get worse with time. I took it to Ricart (big mistake) and they did nothing. I then took it to MazdaDirect and within one day they diagnosed the problem as a clogged cat and they replaced it under warranty. It's been running great ever since

huhwha, i havent really brought it in for the problem yet, just talked to chris about it. hes been very helpful and ive received nothing but the best service from md. byers, however, has a terribly incompetent service manager (paul liska) and i refuse to go back until he is fired. im going to try and bring it in for real this week and see what they can do

kellybrf,

Good luck. I suspect a plugged cat, as both rx8rider & I have experienced. They'll replace it for you and you'll be in good shape.

Ask then where my damn console lid cover is while you're there!

haha. actually i dont know if its the cat as my problem seems different than yours. its sporradic and happens at higher rpms than you guys (and others) have reported. it also happens only when the car is very warm and one time the engine just stopped responding and held at the speed it was, but all the others it actually stops holding and starts to lose speed/rpms

My luck, swapped to my summer tires/wheels this past weekend, and we get a dusting of snow today.

Yup - you're a month too soon. I'll switch at the end of March, barring any dire predictions.

I hear ya. I felt like I'm not maximizing rubber life the way weather has been. Yesterday, we were very fortunate, at least inside or close to the 270 belt. My fiance was driving 161 towards Granville, and apparently it was pretty rough. She saw a 350Z stuck in a ditch, I'm guessing he had his summer tires on.

Upper 40 - 50s this week! Can't wait to do some spring detailing soon!
