Had a Licking County Sherriff tell me Tuesday that every day I don't have a plate on the front of my car is a $94 fine. He was nice enough though. I was pumping gas and he drove up next to me. Said he was probably the only Traffic **** that would pull me over for it. Need to get it fixed now. How bad was the fine Brian?

the mileage is killing me on the 8, starting monday I have to start commuting to washington courthouse for the next 4 weeks. When I had to commute to lancaster for 4 weeks, i was gassing up every other or two day it seemed.
My wife wont let me use her Civic (she refuses to drive stick)... so you guys think I should trade down to a Smart Car when they come out next month? Then again i guess I could just buy one right out, they start out below $13k.

bah, of course I wouldnt trade it in, but I just wanted to b*tch and moan commuting and gas.
Hope you guys are staying safe in this winter!

Heh, I've already been skidding all over the place just on short trips. It's fun as long as I'm still in control of the car a bit. Random question here... since I'm in Ohio for school and technically a Virginia resident, do you think I can get away with no front plate around here and play the "oh, in my state we only require 1 tag, sorry officer" and get off the hook? Granted Virginia requires both tags... but still... I figure not every Ohio officer will know that...

Ouch - that's gonna hurt. The insurance hit will be the worst part - for 5 years!

Good luck.

I'd agree. I've been driving the bulk of the last two years without a front plate, and only recently put it on because I picked up some vanity plates. Figured for the ridiculous price, I might as well use 'em both. Unfortunately my kid accidently broke the bracket off recently, and I hadn't bothered getting it fixed. It took almost two years for law enforcement to say anything about it, and then it was a friendly warning.

Hey everyone.

My daughter decided to be lazy and bring the garbage cans inside tonight by just dragging them past the cars, and my RX-8 took the brunt of that decision. I've got a slew of deep scratches on the driver's side door (but only that door thankfully), and I'm looking for some direction as to where to take it?

I originally bought it at Byers, but when I've talked with them before I got the impression that they don't do body work in their shop.

So, any advice?

Yup - either that or TruePerformance on Industrial Parkway. Same company - I've used both places with good success. Good money - but your daughter can afford it!

Did it myself - never again!

We're looking to do kitchen countertops and that's going to get farmed out to somebody. We're going to go to the Home Show and look around.

The show is the end of the month - the last week I think. We are hoping to go the 29th.

In the snow? I'd recommend an empty parking lot without giant parking lot lights.

i've been pondering getting an additional cheeeeeapp daily driver and wanted your opinions. i noticed my wife only has to pay 60$ a month on gas and she drives aboit as much as i do. she has a civic. anyway i dont know about you guys but has costs me 200$ a month. i was thinking about getting a used civic or corolla (95-98) for 1.5-2k, or this 3k '98 jetta. all have over 100k miles. do you guys think it swill actually save$ in the send with the additional insurance etc. i am beginning to thinnk this is a bad idea, at least a jetta is after reading some online reviews. any thoughts?

Yeah, the Jetta, most likely, will not save you money.

In the long run spending 3k on a car now on a car with 100k+ miles isn't going to be saving you much money. Soon enough you'll be putting way too much money into keeping the car running to offset the couple hundred you're saving from better MPG and lower gas price. I'd suggest just saving up cash where you can, cutting down on driving as much as possible for now, maybe even carpooling, and buying some mega-fuel efficient car later on. Maybe adjust how you drive a bit and coast on the clutch a bit more if you can. Point being; spending 3 grand on a car with 100k miles on it is not going to save you any money in the long run. Especially when you're looking at cars that are all at least 10 years old.

The saga continues. Going into work today and it's pouring rain. I figured I would turn on a little A/C to knock off some of the interior fog. Yeah - good luck with that. It seems they never recharged the system after they replaced the engine or it all leaked out. In any case, no air. Not too bad in February, but I get to make another trip to get it fixed.

Might as well get the oil changed while I'm there, as I will have about 1,000 miles on the new engine by then.

To those RX-8 owners that would be interested. We just finished doing a turbo install on an RX-8 and will be tuning it in the next few days. If anyone is interested I will post a time and you can come over and watch. This car has a Greddy turbo kit, Int X ECU and high flow cat. Everything else is stock. From some preliminary testing it should make around 270 RWHP. The stock catback and high flow cat are holding it back a little.
