Copy that, over.

1330 Sunday sounds good. Hopefully I find the right place and have time to clean my car.

10-4, Sunday 13:30 @ Rita's.

Pretty fair chance I'll be across the street @ City Barbeque having lunch before then, if anybody's interested.

I can't guarantee the lunch part, but probably 12:45 or so if I make it.

It's a treat anyway - real good barbeque.

hey guys

i just wanted to drop in and ask a quick question. I am buying a new rebuilt motor from mazmart and having it shipped here to columbus and i want to have somebody professional put it in. Does anyone know of any good mechanics around town that could do this for me? (besides mazda)

Thanks!

It was nice to meet everyone and see the cars in person. Makes me want to go spend more money...dooh! Oh well you only live once right?

Columbus is nice, I thought. I've only been there like three or four times now.

Success07, I was thinking on my ride home about your situation with the battery. You should take out the fuse fro your amp setup, if you haven't already, and see how long the battery lasts. If it is that then it should stop then, but if it is somethign else that someone has messed with, then at least you elimminated the amp snd such. Also you could just get a ohm meter or go to pep boys or someone similar and just see what your ohm drop is across your batt. That will give you an indication if your alt is working properly. Just a few thoughts. Good luck with it.

Great to see everybody again - and to get to meet some new folks!

The weather was a good improvement over the last time.

Sorry you didn't make it back in time Brian. Have you gotten your car sorted out now?

Next up for me is brakes. I noticed on my trip to Alabama that the front rotors have warped. A HEAVY braking from 80+ to avoid a pinhead proved that.

I think pads & rotors on the front and pads on the rear should do it. Any suggestions? I have some time, as this is not a job I want to do in 90º heat!

Well that frickin' figures. I am away for a couple of weeks, the C-bus lovefest falls apart, AND I miss a meet. WTF? I was in PA anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered...you guys just would have had another chance to see my borked wheels. The upside is I got 22mpg on the way back to town.

24 mpg??? You must have been playing blocker on 71. The only way I can see that kind of mileage is around 70 mph or less. Running 75-80 to Alabama netted me between 21 and 22 mpg - but it was 10% ethanol crap, so if you add 10% back, I guess I'm close.

I wonder about Anthony's mileage - what's the mpg @ 110? Flat out?

Not good, my friend, not good at all.

I'm getting somewhere around 200 miles per tank if I'm lucky.

One tank, if I remember correctly, only alotted 159mi!!! Probably a winter tank that was used to run the car at idle just to get the juices flowing. That plus the "very" occasional nice day resulted in the horrible gas mileage.

I might need to get new pads and possibly rotors soon. Does anyone know of a good place to go for service? I know Mazda Direct is going to charge me at least $1400 for pads, rotors, and installation.

Sorry I missed the meet. I haven't been on the forums in a little bit. I was actually at City BBQ the day before....

Man....I haven't been on here in a minute! Glad to see everyone is still around...and looks like I missed out on a recent gathering. Life has just been pretty busy/hectic for me over the past 6-7 months. But I'm checkin' back in....

In fact....just got some new wheels/tires put on the ol girl today!

Yup...18's. 18x8, but I went 245/40 on the tires. I came close to going with the 19's, but decided to stick with the 18's in the end.

Good lord...$1400? That's frickin' ROBBERY. I'd just buy the parts and change 'em yourself. It's not that hard at all. I haven't changed brakes on an RX-8 yet, but I've done them on plenty of other cars. If you have a C-clamp, socket set, brake cleaner, etc., you can probably do them yourself inside of a couple hours. Tricky part is getting the rotors off if they are jammed, but there is typically a bolt hole on the reverse side that will pop 'em off. Anyone know if the pads/rotors on the 8 are substantially different from other vehicles?

no they are the same as any other car but no pop bolts there are two factory screws on the front rotors that are 9 times of 10 frozen you have to drill them out.. most of the time.. then replace.. they are used to hold the rotor in place at perfect center during factory assembly. you honestly dont even need them...

Thanks twiztedRX, I might have to take you up on that offer...

I'm taking my 8 in on saturday for an oil change and I'm going to see what they say about needing new brake pads or rotors. I'll start looking around and pricing pads and rotors. I know people have mentioned tire rack but is there anywhere else I should look?

If I had a garage to work on my car in I would definitely try to do it myself but I unfortunately live in an apartment. I've also never tried to do anything like that on a car although I would like to know how.
