It's all good, have my health. Just too many bad things at once got me a little overloaded. The car hit home as it is my prized possession (no family is not a possession). The POS that I totaled only effected me as it forced me to drive my 8 in the winter.

On the flip side.......

Happy New Year!!!!!!

Take care,

Brian

Well spent the weekend clear coating all 22 engine covers and interior parts, then re-installing parts. All came out great less the main engine cover. I was running out of paint and did something stupid. Shame as masking/taping was a bit*h on that part.

Also threw in my new LED third brake light. Smoked my OEM housing and used that instead of the new parts housing. Started raining towards the end so I still have 5 trunk liner thumb screws to put back in.

Now to see how long the paint lasts without shipping/fading/bubbling .

Take care,

Brian

The electricla gremlins got me! I was coming back from my daughter's 2 weeks ago, hit the brights and all the console lights went out! Got home and then was sick for a while, so I didn't look at it. Got in the next Saturday, turned the key and - nothing! Checked and found the positive termial all corroded. Cleaned it up and put it back together. Car fired right up. Coming to work this morning - same thing! Hit the brights and the console lights go out.

Sure seems like a bad connection somewhere, so I'll check agian tonight. Anybody have any ideas?

I tore into it more last night and cleaned up the connections better. I had an uneventful ride in this morning, so we'll see how it goes.

I don't really like the looks of the battery. MD changed it when they did the starter TSB, but that's close to 3 years ago. I'll see if I can milk it until next Fall and change it then.

Anyone here willing to help me change my air filter? I will compensate with... a nutrigrain bar? or icecream (kinda cold I know) from cold stone. I tried to follow the DIY but I can not freaking get that box thing out so I can remove and replace the filter. I will try again later though anytakers?

It's been a while, but I remember it was difficult. Make sure you do it when the car has been run for a while - the plastic will be alittle softer and flex some more.

you really have to put some force forward towards the engine then up and out to get the box out enough to get the filter out.. it takes a bit.. and being cold really doesnt help

GOT IT! trying after driving it around definitely helped a lot. It was much easier to dislodge. I just hope I put the bottom grommets back in the holes. I wonder if this KnN filter actually is any good. Thanks again all.

You will like the K&N filter. I have had one in for the last year. I checked it around a month ago and it still looks great. Sorry, if I would have seen your post earlier I would of helped in a heart beat. The first time removing this in the cold is a pain .

Take care,

Brian

Well I have a one day deal for the Columbus people. I have the Pettit radio ****...

http://www.pettitracing.com/rx8/index.htm

My car is coming out of the stereo shop from doing an aftermarket stereo removal Monday the 12th. I am going to have it back around 4:30. I am dropping my car off Tuesday right after work to trade it in.

If someone wants to meet me on the north end of Columbus Monday after 4:30 it is theirs....for free. All I need is the stock round one back as an exchange.

I'll also have some parts that once I get pix will post here in the local thread prior to the for sale thread. I will have:

The OEM areo (spelling?) kit being Side Aero Flares, Front Splash Mud Guards, Rear Splash Mud Guards and Front nose dam. All in brilliant black and unused (NEW).

4 16" stock summer tires with 12K wear on them nice amount of tread left (No rims)

Assorted shift ***** (around 6 I think. All universal fit ones).

1 drivers side arm rest control unit (window/locks/doors/etc)

1 stock non-fog light arm (steering wheel unit)

Zen Enclosure box with a bonus...a Mazda emblem on one side and an RX-8 emblem on the other side centered.

A complete set of outside badges that have been flat black painted with two layers of clear coat.

The recent GB for the third brake light in LEDs (Mine is the smoked one).

Take care,

Brian

PM me your cell phone and I will call you when at home. I am thinking around 6:00 or 7:00 depending on how things go, if that sounds good.

Take care,

Brian

I'm sorry, guess I skipped that .

I will only post here, not going for a flame fest in the lounge .

I love my eight first off. It just looks plain sexxxxyyyyyyy. I love explaining that it is a rotary engine every time I am asked. The car is in great condition less the outside paint with a lot of chipping. Not sure what is up with mine but the clear coat seems thin or something. The issue also is that it is an 04 AT. I can take or leave the AT but the 4 port/4 speed VS. the 6port/6speed AT is an issue that I didn't catch prior to purchase. I knew about the loss of HP going in so not whining there. So it wasn't the car so much but the purchasor (me) making a few flawed over sites. Oh and screw gas mileage, drive it like you stole it .

I looked at a few cars three months ago. I just got the "itch". I liked each but each had it's own stopping point issue prior to ending the sale.

One was a 2008 Honda S2000 Club Racer edition (800 made a year) with 500 miles (OMG) at Roush Honda in Westerville. This thing is just tooo nice, not much more engine but everything else was a step beyond the normal ones. With everything said and done they were giving me a little less then NADA on my trade (to be nice it was a lot). They even had me get a CarMax quote saying they would match and still nothing was raised on the price when CarMax showed more than the offer from them (Did I say ). I REALLY wanted that one. One thought: functional front and rear spoilers.

I also looked at a 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. It is in showroom condition. That dealer gave me above NADA on my trade but the asking price for theirs was on crack...wayyyy out of line. We haggled, I didn't get what I wanted so I walked (hard to do).

So I followed both for the last three months waiting .

I now own the STI. They came down 4.5K in three months to way below NADA value. They still gave me what they initially offered for mine . I was going to wait one more month but I didn't want to press my luck. I even got them to throw in some Blizzak LM-25 tires. The front bumper is a JDM Chargespeed bumper type 1a, it is made from RFP. The picture makes the color look off but it looks "normal" IRL.

They lost out on financing also as I go through me CU always on car loans. I did get the interior and exterior protective coat for $380. I didn't research this one but since they were soooo generous I figured what the heck. It gets me a 7 year stain guarantee on the interior. They can't fix it, it gets replaced at a non pro-rated exchange. Exterior it covers everything less rock chipping for the same period. They made it sound like a spray on clear bra but for the entire car. If a bird dookie hits it, I let it sit, the acid eats through the clear coat...they fix it even if it calls for a total repaint. Probably wasted money but again I figured what the heck.

My car is getting the aftermarket stereo removed yesterday and Monday. I did one last 270 freeway drive (full circle) with the thing screaming. Oh I had the stereo cranked also (listened to Godsmack). I am pulling a few things off Monday night and dropping it off Tuesday after work.

310 WHP with factory turbo on the new car. 6 speed VS the 5 speed manual. The 2007 comes with an upgraded/new MCU/ECU among other things. It is also a "new" color for the year being Urban Metallic Grey. This is the final sedan year also. It's inception date was July or September 2007.

I don't want to pollute this thread with a bunch of images so here is a link to a Photo Bucket album...

Take care,

Brian

P.S.- Wow just re-read, man did I ramble.

Hi, I just got a PM from a CA member for one part of the areo kit that would need shipped. I would like to keep this as a whole so...

I am selling the OEM areo (spelling?) kit being:
Side Aero Flares, Front Splash Mud Guards, Rear Splash Mud Guards and Front nose dam. All in brilliant black and unused (NEW).

Again this has never been used. I payed $300. I would happily sell the whole kit which includes instructions, templates and all needed mounting hardware for $225. The color is Brilliant Black. Also there would be no shipping which would also be a savings to you of around $50+.

Introduction

Hello local Columbus RX8 owners. Newbie here, and just wanted to introduce myself to the locals. My name is Brian and I live in Westerville. I'm currently in the market for something sporty to drive in the summer and on weekends, sort of a toy to compliment my existing vehicles. I've got 2 small boys (age 8 and 11) and want something that gives me the flexibility to carry the wife and boys when the need arises (therefore eliminating anything witout a backseat). I current drive an 08 Honda Pilot and the wife has an Odyssey, but I've previously owned some sporty cars (Acura Integra and an 04 Mazda 6S)

I just drove my first RX8 the other day, and I gotta say I was very impressed. I think the RX8 is gong to be one of the leading candidates for my mid-life crisis car (I just turned 4-0). Just wondering a couple things.... do any of you C-bus locals know anything about a Titanium Gray 04 GT that is for sale at Immke Honda? It seems nice, but I'm a bit concerned about the fact that it has had 3 owners and has been involved in a minor accident according to Carfax. Also, I noticed a few issues on my test drive: 1) The plastic engine cover (that says Renesis) is MIA 2) Rear taillight is filled with moisture (is this common? If so, is there a fix, or simply need replaced?) 3) One of the dash vents is broken.

My next question is does anybody know of any other 04-05s for sale locally that appear in good condition? I would prefer a GT, and it has to have a manual transmission & a sunroof, but I'm flexible on most other options/colors. Prefer under 50K miles. Autotrader shows quite a few outside of Columbus, but in the Columbus metro area, the choices seem pretty slim. If anybody has seen any locally that they might recommend, let me know.

If you are still reading this, thanks for sticking with me, and sorry for the long intro!!!
