Holy crap I just checked on mapquest, and I'm about an hour and a half away from this place! So I'll probably just chill there. Shinka, do you mind if I get my car in first so I'm not stuck waiting there all day? I'm pumped up…I've been wanting to get this thing tinted for about 2 years now!

Spoke with gregg today. In RI you can't do anymore than stock on the side windows. The rear is a free for all. That said he reccomended 20% for any significant heat reduction. I'm worried that it will be too dark for my tastes and make the side windows look funny. Thoughts?

depends on what your tastes are that you think it would look too dark. it certainly is difficult to see in from the outside with 20% but not hard at all to see out. at night it felt like the auto-dim feature on the mirror when looking out and during the day it's just like wearing a pair of sunglasses.

i don't know if it would look funny just to do the rear but a photochop might help. the other thing is that it comes slightly tinted from the factory and blocking all of that light from the back might make the front windows look darker. you could always lay something on your back windshield to simulate all the light being blocked from the back and see if that changes the way the front look at all. 20% wouldn't be that dark but might give you a sense of what the rest would look without light coming through it.

No problem regarding going first. I might have a friend of mine follow me down and we could all go get lunch or some such.

Also, I sent a pm to remind fitz75. That would be 5 of us if eforer and fitz75 come on board. Not bad.

Hi guys, sorry I've been out of the loop lately, but the 12th works best for me. Any confirmation on pricing yet? If I get discounted I will divvy it up amongst us.

I think this guy had a shop in Monroe a couple years back, I had my 04 Mazda 3 tinted by Tint King... anyway he should have samples of the tint, right? I am undecisive myself...

sorry if i confused - i grabbed the quote from tint king mainly as a disclamer for the hazing and "water spots" in the pictures i took. this guy is not affiliated with them. he does have samples but if you want to see my car sometime you can. that might make it easier to see what it really looks like on the 8. i have 35% metallic on the sides and 20% on the back. the non-metallic will look a little lighter but you can get a sense of how dark each looks in person. i'm traveling now but if you want to get together anytime after thursday PM me and we can see about meeting up.

OK I left a message for Greg regarding this Saturday. CTrx8, your tint is metallic? I would of thought it is non-metallic.... maybe its the lighting? What do you guys think I should go with, non-metallic or metallic?

no doubt black, but metallic or non-metallic? CTrx8's sides look slightly darker than the rear, plus a black car makes his tint look even darker.

Ok, Greg has me down for this Saturday, I'm dropping off my car at 12 and I don't care if its done last - in answer to my question the black doesn't show any metallic but it reflects more light. Depending on how dark you tint the rear windshield, it will make the sides appear darker.

He only has Pete and myself reserved on Saturday, JB7345 did you make an appt, or maybe Pete has two under his name??

That is disconcerting. Hm, I will call again...

OK, it has been made quite clear that 3 of us are showing up on Saturday. Josh, your car is up first (not that it matters to him they're all RX-8s).

Around 12:15 Greg will talk to us about options and then we'll leave him alone for possibly a couple of hours per car. So if you have somewhere to be you may wish to arrange for a ride to follow you. As I said before, I'll have a friend of mine follow me and we will likely go to lunch; all are welcome. Since a 6 hour lunch is unlikely this will allow for Josh's car to be done at least.

Edit: Oh, also I gave Greg your number, Josh, in case of... I don't know.
And thank you for posting the discrepancy Lisa.

Hey Pete, I did not mean to make it seem like an error, I hope you didn't take it that way. He seemed a little confused but mentioned your name as one of the appts, and I did not want to replace anyone's spot...

No mention of pricing by chance? See you guys on **Saturday**

No, just a discrepancy between what I thought I explained to Greg and what he told you. I just wanted to make sure Greg understood that 3 of us were coming in. Anyway, all is well now.

Money: no mention of it. Greg wanted to see how many people we could get first before he made any commitment on a group deal. I suspect the 3 of us (+ CTrx8 already done) will be it. Any group deal should obviously include CTrx8 retroactively since he was the one to organize this thing.

I'm out for now guys, I just spent some $$ on gauges on the last day of the prosport group buy from crossoverauto. So my car budget is blown for this month. At least I'll know my oil temp/pressure now.

Awesome, I'll be there at noon. I'd defintiely stay till your cars are done, too…but I am getting my back yard done this Saturday (We just got one HUGE dump truck load of loam dropped yesterday….and the rest is coming Saturday). So I need to get back to my house as quickly as I can to make sure everything is in check!

That means this Saturday I'll see as many 8's than I've seen total since I moved here last July! It's pretty cool that nobody has them (at least around my neck of the woods)

fitz is correct. the metallic vs. not really is for light absorption. a metallic will look darker than a dye film at the same percentage because it reflects more light. the other thing to consider with the metallic is that some say that it affects some AM radio stations as well as installed GPS where the receiver is in the rear windshield. since i don't have that and any GPS for me will be mounted on the front windshield and i don't listen to AM radio it wasn't an issue for me.

thanks for looking out for me. don't worry about it though because i still have to get my wife's car done and kind of used that as a holdout. once all of them are done he'll know what the discount will be and charge the appropriate amount for my wife's based on how much i have paid and how much the discounted rate would have been.
